About

“LOVE LETTERS CONQUERS ALL!” – NBC New York

“Under the expert direction of Gregory Mosher, Brian Dennehy, gives a sterling performance and an utterly extraordinary Mia Farrow casts a heartbreaking spell.” - The New York Times

Andrew Makepeace Ladd III wrote his first letter to Melissa Gardner to tell her she looked like a lost princess. They were both seven years old. For the next fifty years, through personal triumphs and despair, through wars and marriages and children and careers, they poured out the secrets of their hearts to each other. They defied a fate that schemed to keep them apart, and lived – through letters – for the one most meaningful thing, their undying love for each other.

See your favorite stars including Brian Dennehy, Mia Farrow, Carol Burnett, Alan Alda, Candice Bergen, Stacy Keach, Diana Rigg, Anjelica Huston, Martin Sheen and so many more brilliant talents to be announced. Directed by Gregory Mosher and written by celebrated playwright A.R. Gurney. An enduring romance about first loves and second chances comes to Broadway.

“BRIAN DENNEHY & MIA FARROW DAZZLE IN LOVE LETTERS. A beguiling and wrenching kaleidoscope of real emotions.” - Newsday

Very sad to see it closed ... it's a wonderful, heartbreaking show and thes two performers bring out all the humanity of the piece.

Loved every minute of this very different play.

by mb1947 on 12/16/14Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New York

Love Candice Bergen and Alan Alda in this production which sadly closed the day after I saw it. Very different play from anything I saw before. Actors really made the play seem real and not just reading from script.

    Love Letters

by Anonymous on 12/16/14Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New York

Alan Alda is one of my favorite actors. Both he and Candice Bergen made their respective characters come alive in a very credible way. This is a very serious play. Much of its success depends on how the reader is able to convey his or her emotions to the spectator. Absolutely amazing.

Love Letters Written From the Heart

by ArthurThird on 12/16/14Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New York

Wonderful performance. Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect with the letter "reading" format, but I was captured right away. Heard two lives, connected but never connecting, unfold before me...one upward, and one spiraling down. Dramatic, tragic, but also seasoned with life's funny if not ironic moments. Alda is a star.

Love Letters was thoughtful and very well done

by Schat on 12/16/14Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New York

I was not sure that it would hold my attention but was soon "sucked in." While they each are just reading letters, there was wonderfully subtle acting going on all the time. I continue to think about it.

    Minimalist play, maximum emotion

by UviKr on 12/16/14Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New York

This play is consisted of two actors sitting alongside each other and reading letters the characters exchanged over several decades. This means it heavily relies on the actors to convey their emotions through minimal changes in tone and facial hints, without boring the audience of course. Alan Alda and Candice Bergen did just that, not being overdramatic but fully conveying the emotions behind the letters (which ranged from laugh to tears...). I was left in tears at the end and would recommend it to anyone with their heart in the right place.

love letters...what a waste of talent

by TheatreJunky on 12/15/14Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New York

I can honestly say this was the absolute worst Broadway show I have ever seen. The two accomplished actors, Candice Bergen and Alan Alda sat on the stage at a desk for 1 hour and 40 minutes reading the script from 3 ring binders. I can't believe I spent $99. on a ticket for this not to mention the time I wasted. I am also shocked that it has remained open. Please don't waste your money on this like I did.

    Love Letters was memorable!!

by JaayP on 12/15/14Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New York

The play was hilarious, witty and sometimes emotional and for its 90 mins run kept us entertained and deeply engrossed. The actors did a great job in weaving a great story.

"Love Letters" was a play not to be missed.

by Thacher on 12/15/14Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New York

This was great. I had read the play ahead of time and this added another dimension to it. And both Alan Alda and Candice Bergen were superb. I am very glad we saw it.

The show is great. Its only reading the letters... They have to show the feeling, make the audience feel the two people...

    Loved this play!

by michelelongisland on 12/14/14Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New York

This was a heartwarming, poignant portrayal of a life long relationship with its ups and downs. I loved Alan Alda and Candice Bergen. They drew me in with their warmth and sincerity towards each other. I had no trouble believing they were indeed these two human beings reliving a lifetime of touching and warm shared experiences. I recommend this to anyone who loved Same Time Next Year or romantic comedies in general.

    Compelling!!

by NanaTish on 12/13/14Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New York

Took my 4 daughters. None of us knew what to expect. About5 minutes in, I was hooked! Literally on the edge of my seat from then on! Ninety minutes went by in a heartbeat. I've always admired Ms. Bergen and Mr. Alda. It was a thrill to witness such a powerful show, performed by such talented veteran actors. Absolutely loved it, as did all my girls. This was the youngest daughter's first Broadway experience. Now she's hooked!! Loved, loved it!!

    Just Two Actors

by Giuditta on 12/13/14Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New York

Candace Bergen and Alan Alda couldn't have been better. Just two people sitting at a table on stage was the entire setting. They read letters to each other written over forty years. The readings were warm, funny, sad and overall very moving. This type of performance is not everyone's cup of tea but they were given quite an ovation.

by PMACSTER on 12/9/14Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New York

Well casted. Moved quickly but allowed for plenty of time to feel each emotion. Laughed, cried, sighed, smiled. Candace Bergen and Alan Alda were wonderful. Would recommend for a memorable theater experience.

    Love Letters was amazing!

by Sjvgirl2 on 12/9/14Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New York

Alan Alda and Candice Bergen delivered an outstanding performance. With no stage props, music or other actors, they performed non-stop in the most human and compelling way. The audience was totally engaged.
