Louisville Cardinals at Cardinal Stadium
The Louisville Cardinals college football team is the pride of the University of Louisville. The Atlantic Coast Conference Atlantic Division member has earned nine conference title wins, including being named co-champs of the ACC in 2016, and has appeared in 22 bowl games, most recently the 2017 TaxSlayer Bowl. The Cardinals' head coach is Scott Satterfield, who is new to the team as of the 2019 season after joining them from Appalachian State. Louisville plays at Cardinal Stadium, a 60,000-seat venue located on the University of Louisville campus that received some major renovations in recent years.
Louisville Cardinals Football History
The University of Louisville fielded a football team for the first time in 1912. The Cardinals were independent until joining the Missouri Valley Conference from 1963 to 1974. Louisville also spent time in the Big East between 2005 and 2012 and, since 2014, has been in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Louisville saw a resurgence in success and popularity after World War II thanks to Frank Camp, who was head coach from 1946 to 1968. Under his watch, the Cardinals earned their first bowl win, in the 1958 Sun Bowl against the Drake Bulldogs. Several of the team's greatest athletes also played during Camp's tenure, including speed-minded offensive catalyst Lenny Lyles and future NFL great Johnny Unitas. From 1951 to 1954, Unitas racked up 3,139 yards and 27 touchdown passes as the Cardinals' quarterback. Decades later, head coach Howard Schnellenberger also steered Louisville to a renaissance between 1985 and 1994, including a victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide in the 1991 Fiesta Bowl.
Louisville has fielded dozens of All-American players and also has a Heisman Trophy winner, as quarterback Lamar Jackson nabbed the coveted honor during the team's successful 2016 season. The Cardinals' major rival is the in-state Kentucky Wildcats. Since 1994, the two teams have met every year, with the winner of the game taking home the Governor's Cup. In years past, Louisville also had fierce rivalries with the Memphis Tigers and the Cincinnati Wildcats. Until 2013, the Cardinals squared off against the latter team in a yearly contest with the victor receiving a trophy known as the Keg of Nails.

This was the worst effort I’ve witnessed by a U of L team ever, and I’ve been a season ticket holder for three decades. I thought Cooper and Kragthorpe were weak, but Satterfield is starting to be an embarrassment. I fear the fan base will continue to leave, and future games will be played in a near empty stadium.
I had a great experience at the Ville, the game was exciting and the retiring of Lamar’s #8 was a memorable experience. The whole event was spectacular!
Great seats just a lot of steps we had to climb. I'll know next time. Great game, friendly people. A fun time.
Way too much for tickets in the nose bleed seats with half the stadium empty
We weren’t sure about where to park so we took the first cheap lot we came to, only $5. There were plenty of parking spots closer to the stadium for just a little more but we didn’t know. It wasn’t that bad of a walk and we needed the exercise anyway. The stadium had plenty of food and drink selections including adult beverages. We did like the stadium seats but it was a little close when someone wanted to get past. People were nice and wished us a safe trip home. The game was great since our team won! We would recommend this place to anyone who wants to see a great place to see a college football game!
One hell of a game So happy we wonGood night for nice and cool
Nice time. Good energy. Friendly people. Comfortable seating however, pretty tight spacing. But overall I enjoyed the game and will return for another one.
Tickets arrived quickly. Experience was great. Will use Ticketmaster again.
Getting into the stadium was ridiculous. Missed kickoff due to the unorganized gate, line etc. Game was great!
Didn’t like the fact that I purchased the family pack and couldn’t use the $10 voucher at the concession stands near my section. I had to go to the main level and search for a place to use them. Inconvenient and not at all happy.
Love the expansion and the renovation. One of the best college stadiums in the country.
No a bad seat in stadium. Seats are narrow for the larger person but bearable. Staff are very helpful and pleasant.
My first college football game and loved it! It would have been better if Louisville had won!
Loved the gave and seat. I bought the seat online, and I'm so happy I did. I was worried the first half but it all paid off thanks to Jackson.
The atmosphere and crowd was fantastic! Any time you can watch Louisville dominate the 2nd best team in the country like that it's gonna be memorable! GO CARDS!!!
Awesome venue for football........................
These seats were terrible and it rained most of the game. Total waste of time and money.
I love Louisville football! First of all, just a die hard Cards fan...however, going to the games is what really makes it fun and more exciting. The Papa John Stadium is fantastic. There isn't a bad seat in the place. I would totally recommend anyone to go. Ticketmaster is really easy to work with and does a good job at getting the tickets to you. It's so easy now that you can print the tickets at home.
There is not a bad seat in this stadium. Out tickets were way at the top, but we could still see everything very well. The seats were actually comfortable, too.
