Los Angeles Lakers History
The Lakers are one of the most storied franchises in all of sports. They boast 19 conference titles, 35 division titles and 17 NBA Championships. The franchise started in 1947 as the Minneapolis Lakers in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and predated the official founding of the NBA. At the time, the Lakers were a member of the National Basketball League (NBL). They moved to the Basketball Association of America (BAA) prior to the 1948–49 season. After that season, the NBL and BAA merged to form the NBA. The Lakers dominated the newly formed NBA, winning five of the first six NBA Championships.
Two big decisions in 1960 altered the future of the franchise. First, they selected Jerry West with the No. 2 overall pick in the NBA Draft. Then, the franchise moved to Los Angeles in the same offseason, becoming the NBA's first West Coast team. After several trips to the NBA Finals and trading for Wilt Chamberlain, the Lakers won the NBA Championship in 1971–72, an amazing season that included a 33-game win streak, which is still the NBA record for most consecutive wins. West would go on to become a Hall of Famer, and his silhouette is featured as the NBA's logo.
The Lakers' next era of dominance began in 1979, when they selected Earvin "Magic" Johnson with the No. 1 overall pick. Johnson's unrivaled passing ability allowed the Lakers to play with an up-tempo style that became known as "Showtime." Led by Johnson and fellow Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the Lakers won the NBA Championship in Johnson's rookie season and a total of five titles during the '80s.
The Lakers were led to three consecutive titles between 2000 and 2002 by the legendary duo of Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant, including a run through the 2000–01 playoffs that saw them lose just one game in four series. The franchise entered a short rebuilding period after trading O'Neal in 2004, but Bryant led the Lakers to three consecutive NBA Finals appearances once again, starting in the 2007–08 season. They lost to the Celtics in their first appearance, but responded by winning the next two championships, the second of which came in seven games against the Celtics.
Following the postponement of the 2019-20 NBA season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the team won its most recent NBA Finals in 2020 in the NBA Bubble behind Finals MVP LeBron James and All-Star forward Anthony Davis. In 2023, the Lakers won the inaugural NBA in-season tournament.

Great game by the Lakers and Staples was fun, as always. Loved the shirt giveaway!
GREAT GAME and GREAT ENERGY! There was nothing like being there at that moment. It was a once in a lifetime game and so GLAD I picked this game for my Dad's Birthday present. He's been a Laker Fan since I can remember and for his 73rd birthday he finally got to see a great and memorable game at the STAPLES CENTER! Nachos, bottomless popcorn, coke and a beer = ~30 bucks (kinda pricey, but what do you except), restrooms clean and nice attendants that help you find your seats. We went early and checked out LA Live and ESPN Zone.
The game was awesome! great experience for the kids. they are ready to go back!
Amazing game, went to the over time. I am die hard Laker fan but, Raptors seemed the better team overall, but simply taken by the Kobe force. Bryant played amazingly and well supported by his team mates.
my husband loved going to the game! had nothing but great things to say about it. he didn't even care about being at the very top for seats; he actually thought it was nice cause you can see everything!
Kobe made three 3-pointers to put the game into overtime (they hadn't led the entire game). Then in overtime, Kobe made a slam dunk to put the Lakers ahead for good. It was awesome!
It was amazing I saw Kobe shot last amazing 3 in front of my face. How can I say my feeling? Damed fxxking good.
The people working at Staples Center were so friendly and happy it made my night! Loved watching the Lakers and loved such great customer service from all!
Kobe went Kobe and the Lakers win. It was a very exciting game. I went with a friend and his wife. She had never been to Staples Center and loved it.
Great game by the best in the west!! Lakers games never disappoint.
While this was not even close to my first game, the best seats I ever had, or the best game I have seen, it was most memorable because it was my friends very first game. She got a good one. The end came down to a 1 point back and forth with 24 putting in a ridiculous floating lay up with 9 seconds to go, followed by a Steve Blake steal on D. Kobe had 34 and took over the 4th quarter. Like wine, he gets better with age.
we bought our Laker tickets a week before the game. I figured there was no way we'd be able to get good seats so late but we got four together about half way up. Good views of a great game.
What a great game. Who could ask for more? It came down to the last 33 seconds. The Lakers are up by 1. Then Atlanta scores on a back door lay up and goes up by 1. Then Kobe drives the basket, hangs in the air, and makes the difficult 2 ft bank shot while being fouled, but they don't call the foul. Still, the Lakers go up by 1. Atlanta has the ball with 9 seconds left. They pull off the same back door play and are about to score when the guy loses the handle on the ball and attempts to pass it out by the free throw line. Steve Blake intercepts the ball. Lakers win! Not only did the Lakers win, but we had great seats in section 103 and to top it all off we met my teammates nephew after the game, Kyle Korver.
great seats and the Lakers won by 1 over the Hawks..one of the best things we liked was you were able to text a message to the score board before the game.this worked out well as we were there for my son's 10th b-day..it was great to see ushers outside the arena moving people to other gates...we did not have to stand in any lines...the only thing I missed doing was taking a picture with the Kobe cut out...there was a long line and the game was about to start...we went back after the game but it was put away
I gave these tickets to my boyfriend for his Birthday. Neither of us had ever been to a Lakers game. We just moved here from Colorado. he plays basketball almost every night with a group of men at our gym. He is a huge Lakers fan. We had an amazing time the only thing is that he was approached to do the half court shot. He was very excited to have the chance to stand on the court until she asked were we lived and he said Bakersfield. She said he lived too far away. His work has an office in Oxnard. I guess we should have given that address. We were told he had to be In the LA area. This kind of ruined some of the game for us because he was so bummed. It was his birthday and would have been the high of his year. I paid more for these tickets then I have for any of the 49ers tickets I've purchased and it would have been the most. Exciting experience of his life. It was put out to him but then taken away. We were bummed. But the game was great and would go to another one.
Amazing game; Simply AMAZING!!! The Lakers win!!! I'll never forget this tremendous experience.
Win or lose the Lakers organization always puts on a great show. Luckily, they won this one.
Amazing seats and great game. I'm hooked. In addition to the action on the floor there was the non stop parade of celebs walking by our seats going to the vip lounge.
Love the lakers! :) Amazing win over TWolves.. :) :)
