Los Ángeles Azules on Tour

The timeless cumbia rhythms of Los Ángeles Azules will crisscross El Norte this year. Launched in the early '80s by a half-dozen siblings of the Mejía Avante family, Los Ángeles Azules (Blue Angels) have surfed wave after wave of Latin music. It's been a long road, but their romantic take on Mexico's cumbia sonidera sound remains as popular as ever. Los Ángeles reignited once again last year with Esto sí es cumbia ("This Is Cumbia"), whose twist on original hits by Ha*Ash, Miguel Bose, Gloria Trevi, Yuri and other Latin stars hit the Regional Mexican Albums Top 10. They kicked off 2019 with "Nunca es suficiente" ("It's Never Enough"), written and sung by Natalia Lafourcade, which became Los Ángeles' first Regional Mexican chart-topper in 19 years. Live performances with the Mexico City Symphony Orchestra in 2016 demonstrated that cumbia belongs to everyone. But whether accompanied by a symphony or in their usual baker's-dozen configuration, expect to hear hits like "Cómo te voy a olvidar" ("How Could I Forget You"), "Por el amor a mi madre" ("For the Love of My Mother") and "El nuevo sonido de la cumbia" ("The New Sound of Cumbia").

Los Ángeles Azules in Concert

A family affair from the beginning, with more than two dozen albums to their name, Los Ángeles Azules began in 1983 as part of Mexico's young and rocking onda grupera movement. Formed by the Mejía Avante siblings Elías, Alfredo, José Hilario, Jorge, Cristina and Guadalupe, the band hit its first peak in 1996, when their chart-topping "Inolvidables" went platinum in Argentina, the group's second home. A new singer, Erick de la Peña, gave the band its biggest hit to date in 2002 with "Por el amor a mi madre" from the album Alas al mundo ("Wings to the World").

Los Ángeles' most recent surge began in 2013 with the album Cómo te voy a olvidar, an updated re-recording of the group's hits with guest vocalists including Carla Morrison, Lila Downs and Ximena Sariñana. And while the band's foundation in cumbia sonidera's ratcheting guïra rhythm and lilting accordion will never disappear, Los Ángeles Azules took their music to another level in 2016 with De plaza en plaza: Cumbia sinfónica, a glorious powerhouse blend of rootsy cumbia and sophisticated strings.

    Short performance!

by MMM on 4/17/19Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre at SDSU - San Diego

The show itself was great! amazing! fabulous! The only thing i would say is that it was cut short. It was supposed to start at 7:30 p.m. but did not start until at 8:00 p.m. or a bit after, and ended up at about 9:35 p.m. What this means is that it was cut 30 minutes short. The production/management should have made up the time and end the show at 10:00 p.m. or a bit after to make up for the lost time. So my rating for the show is 5 stars, but 4 stars for cutting it short. Also, there was some down time when the power was lost and the concert was placed of pause!

    Mini concert

by Beth on 4/17/19Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre at SDSU - San Diego

Concert was supposed to be from 7:30 to 9 pm but the group didn’t start till 8:00 & as 9pm rolled in they were towards the end of a song when the music and lights were abruptly turned off & after a few minutes the lead singer said that the place had been rented till 9 only, after people screaming for more, he said let me see if we can sing another song & eventually sang about 3 more songs but made it look like he was making us a favor & the songs were not fully sang they were shorten. People wanted to dance but there’s no space so some would get up and dance from their seats blocking the view to others seating behind them, this place is not suitable for music you would dance to. If this group comes back & their show is at this amphitheater in the future I would definitely not buy tickets & I am sure a lot of the people that attended feels the same way

    Late and short

by Tere on 4/17/19Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre at SDSU - San Diego

They arrived late and finished the concert early. It wouldnt have been a problem if they extened their time. The concert was too short.

    Not worth it

by Jose's on 4/16/19Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

This was my first Angeles Azules concert. I left so disappointed. The concert started late. The music was so low, we could hear each other singing lol. Allot of talking by the lead singer. A dance contest!. But then all of a sudden it was over! It was so bad they performed the same song back to back. I expected so much more. I'm glad we were standing and dancing when they did play a song because it would have been so much worse had I been sitting there bored. I would not attend another concert.

    Too short of event

by L. on 4/15/19City National Civic - San Jose

The venue had a good space for dancing. The sound was good. The only negative aspect I would say is that it felt like it went really fast. I think the event lasted exactly 2 hrs.

    Angeles Azules concert

by Jluis on 4/15/19City National Civic - San Jose

Over all it was a fun concert however I think they need a better sound system the sound was not very clear and sometimes I could hear the singers voice, also the time they spend on stage was about 1.5 hrs They should at least make it to the 2hr mark minimum. The Venue was great good size hall clean restrooms and easy to get around.

by Mother/daughter duo on 4/10/19Majestic Theatre San Antonio - San Antonio

I loved it! It was a little short as we are used to two hour concerts, but it was still a good show. Looking forward to the next time they come.

    Excellent, awesome

by Marta on 4/10/19Majestic Theatre San Antonio - San Antonio

The music was the best, seats were comfortable, the auditorium was lovely and the pricing was reasonable. Overall, it was perfect. The performance could have been longer but other than that, no complaints.
