About

Though still a teenager Lorde is swiftly establishing herself as a mighty force on the music scene, co-headlining shows with established acts like Vampire Weekend and Arctic Monkeys.

The young yet prolific New Zealand-born singer/songwriter, whose real name is Ella Yelich-O'Connor, released her first EP The Love Club, her first No. 1 single "Royals", and her first album Pure Heroine back-to-back-to-back. Her sound is a sparse affair that confidently drifts on the strength of beats, loops, and phenomenal vocals.

The pop and alternative worlds don't always mix, but fans of both styles have flocked to Lorde's electropop-driven sound and soulful voice. And despite her pop successes she's managed to craft a bit of an anti-pop image for herself, not afraid to sound off with opinions - both good and bad - about fellow young stars. Fans who've bought tickets to see Lorde in concert rave about her raw talent while looking forward to watching her grow as an artist and performer.

Lorde was discovered when she was just 12, after her performance of the Duffy song "Warwick Avenue" at a school talent show caught the ear of a record label talent scout. When she's not writing music Lorde listens to pop, hip hop, and electronic music and cites soul legends like Otis Redding as well as modern acts like Bon Iver and James Blake among her influences.

Lorde sounded great, but the venue was awful

by dkarnes on 3/10/14Echostage - Washington

Echostage is a bit of a misnomer, it should be called Echofloor. The stage is so low that most of the audience couldn't see anyone on it. My wife is 5'3" and in 3 inch heels she still couldn't see anything but the chandelier. Two songs had Lorde on screen, so she was able to see part of a projection of Lorde for part of those songs. I'm 6'6", so I could see fine. The teenage girls beside me jumped up and down trying to see (unsuccessfully) the entire show, except when they climbed on each other's back (unsuccessfully) to see. The sound and light show was great.

    Loved Lorde, hated Echostage.

    by galileo5 on 3/10/14Echostage - Washington

Her performance was brilliant, but I couldn't see her on stage. I was only fifty feet away from her, too, but with people taller than I am in front of me and holding up their phones, it was difficult to enjoy.

    Lorde was amazing!

by ConvertedLordeFan on 3/8/14Bayou Music Center - Houston

I took my daughter to this show because I knew how much she loved Lorde. It turns out that Lorde knows how to rock the stage and has converted this old man into a fan. Songs were very infectious. She worked the crowd like a seasoned professional. I now understand why Lorde is so popular. I would definitely go and see Lorde live again!

Incredible concert. Lorde puts on an amazing show and it's hard to believe how confident she was in a room full of people at such a young age but it was amazing.

    Lorde

by RadioCandy on 3/7/14South Side Ballroom - Dallas

Excellent! from the wait in line...the staff inside The Loft let us all use the restroom, made coffee to keep warm. Gilley's let us in as soon as the sun went down to keep from freezing. Security was kind, warned kids of the loudness in front of the stage, even offered some ear plugs to some of us. Then, Lorde, she was excellent! sound, performance, presence, great all around. Only one concern, my daughter and I showed up with approx. $150.00 we were prepared to spend on merchandise. There wasn't any for Lorde. If everyone there had atleast 30 to 40 dollars to spend...that was a huge mistake on her marketing team.

The concert was awesome. I think she deserved a bigger place since it was sooo packed. I found nothing wrong with it. She has one album so the the concert was like 2 and a half hours long so it made since. I got to meet her afterwards!!!! She is so nice and genuine I hope Hollywood doesn't make her change. She's just so real.

    A WILD PARTY!!

by OscarPizzaDeliveryGuy on 3/5/14House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

Me and my friend bought tickets to this show months ahead but still from a 3rd party vendor for the tix so it was almost double the price (80) but it was worth every dime! Her vocals and stage presence were picture perfect! And the bust part of the whole show was the insane light design it was in cue with the bass and everything it was magical. A WILD NIGHT TO REMEMBER!!

A very good concert with a unique attitude. Some people didn't seem to like the show but I feel like that's because they don't understand it.

    NOT QUITE ROYAL

by Skedder on 10/4/13Warsaw - Brooklyn

I was so psyched for this show. I felt lucky to get a ticket and continuously played the new album to get ready. As someone who has gone to hundreds of concerts, I have to admit that I was kind of disappointed. Her voice sounded pretty good but even up front, you could hardly see her. It was the darkest concert I have ever attended. The lighting was ridiculous, and sadly, it added an element of detachment, as I never really felt connected to the performer. Lorde is amazingly talented but at 16, I think she needs to learn a little about performing live. She moved around the stage but didn't do very much. She went through the songs quickly and without adding very much to the recorded versions. She spoke a couple of times, but I had difficulty hearing what she was saying. Yes, it was cool to see her as she is very protective of her image, but I think that backfired on her here. Everything was basically OK, but I was hoping for great.

    Lorde was wonderful!

by turtlethumbs on 10/4/13Showbox at the Market - Seattle

Her voice was amazing and that's all that mattered. I thought her whole set was strong, although she didn't have an encore. I would see her again if I had the opportunity.

    Lorde - Fillmore SF 9/27/13

by ReviewerSF on 9/30/13The Fillmore - San Francisco

I had high hopes for this show. It was a very hard ticket to get for most people. Let's start w/ timeliness. She made us wait about an hour after the opening act finished - more than necessary. The Subs were TOO loud - we had to move, mirrors in the bar were shaking. The backing lights were too bright. I felt like everything about the show was distracting the audience from her. I know she was signing to backing tracks, but she has a great voice, I wanted to hear it better and just couldn't.

Encore? A thank you? NO WAY!

by Heyimcameron on 9/28/13The Belasco Theater - Los Angeles

Okay so we all know Lorde is a very talented young girl but she definitely needs to work on her stage manners. She was into herself the entire show and spoke to the audience only once or twice. After her last song she just walked off stage without even smiling or saying thank you. The audience roared for an encore but NOPE! She did not do an encore. She didn't even acknowledge us. All I know is that I didn't like her as much as I did after the show.

Lorde: Great voice, but still coming into her own

by CC340 on 9/28/13The Belasco Theater - Los Angeles

Lorde has hit international fame on the fast track, and for good reason: her voice is phenomenal, and songs unique. Her voice sounds just as good live. However, as she is still young, she's coming into her own performance-wise. She was always in her own world, kind of dancing and moving about. Hopefully as she does more shows, she'll figure out how to work and engage the crowd a bit more. I also wished she had live backup vocals, rather than using a track, as some of the harmonies are beautiful. All in all, see her once now while you can, then wait a couple years for the next.
