Pretty dismal crowd at the Glendale concert. Probably because it was a Wednesday night, and the concert went very late. The concert itself was excellent. They could've been faking it for all I know; everything was so pitch-perfect. I would have enjoyed seeing more costumes and props, though. The Star Wars tour was better in that regard, although I preferred the LOTR concert overall. Nobody in costume except two folks with elvish capes. Not many kids, and a pretty low key energy overall. Again, I think this has more to do with it being Wednesday night and going until nearly 11:30. They really should've held the concert on a weekend afternoon and made the tickets more affordable. I paid a premium for floor seats and ended up switching locations post-intermission. From the front row I could only see the string section and some of the choir. I couldn't see percussion or brass. (I could also see guitar and accordion players who seemed to do almost nothing--not their fault, but still... The folks in strings did ALL the work.) The subtitles were a much appreciated touch, but the orchestra's heads were in the way. Really, the set up at Jobing stunk. Put the audience on platforms and the orchestra in a pit. And here's another idea for next year: A second screen showing a close-up camera feed of different orchestra and choir members. Oh, and while it was great seeing Fellowship on a big screen again, it was pretty washed out because of the lighting. The Moria scenes in particular were hard to make out. Despite my criticisms of the venue, I'm very glad I went. The music is wonderful, and to hear it played live was indeed a treat. I hope Two Towers comes to Glendale next year... but it was such a poor turn out that The Powers That Be may decide it's not worth the trouble. (That would make me a Sad Hobbit.)
