    Disappointed and Entertained

by JlB on 10/4/22Terrace Theater - Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center - Long Beach

I was taken aback by the "tacky" look of the stage (backdrop and lighting), looked like an oversized high school auditorium (strange combination of garish lighting, beaten up stage floor and 70's styled drapes. The musicians were very good and certainly played with enthusiasm, and trained accomplishment. I felt the choice of pieces may have played to a "pops" type of classical experience, there, I think better choices could have been made. The seats in the auditorium are very old and uncomfortable. the lack of "stadium" style seating made seeing the musicians is hard (I would recommend sitting in the third row of the loge and balcony). I was also amazed at the pricing structure. Tickets are very expensive, seating, acoustics and general look-and-feel of the venue do not warrant $100+ cost per seat. Parking was free .... nice

Spellbound by Madea Sound and Symphony

by LMH on 5/3/22Terrace Theater - Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center - Long Beach

We’ve seen many guitarists over 40 years including Segovia. Listening to Pepe Romero with the LB Symphony, sitting in my seat, it took my breath away. Pepe addressing the pre concert about the composer/friend that had asked Pepe to perform it…and now the composer was quite ill. Watching Pepe so closely and the beauty of the Symphony supporting the pieces was tremendously moving.

    Beautiful Concert

by HR Pro on 1/13/22Terrace Theater - Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center - Long Beach

We really enjoyed the concert and the efforts put into restoring the violins. It's SO important to keep educating our younger generation on the horrors of the Holocaust. Thank you for doing so in such a remarkable way.

    Victories of Humanitarianism

by Gregarious on 1/12/22Beverly O'Neill Theater - Long Beach Conv and Entertainment Ctr - Long Beach

I was blessed with the opportunity of performing Mozart’s Requiem with Long Beach symphony orchestra is the first part of Violins of Hope. While I knew the general story of the event, it wasn’t until I attended the stories of the violins of hope that I truly understood. What , out of humanitarianism, tragedy, suffering, and collaboration, one person’s vision with a whole bunch of other people backing up that vision can convey to all who get to witness the results of that vision. Please bring the entirety of Violins Of Hope back to Long Beach so more can be impacted!

A Stunning Evening - Memorable and Magical

by TBillings on 1/11/22Terrace Theater - Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center - Long Beach

Kudos to the Long Beach Symphony and Camerata Singers for a stunning performance. Before the concert patrons were able to see some of the actual instruments not being played that evening and reading their individual histories. This was the perfect prelude to hearing these pieces of history being played. The music selected was incredibly appropriate, and the Camerata did a wonderful performance of the Mozart Requiem. Highly recommend any future Violins of Hope concert to anyone who is fortunate enough to be able to hear them and learn their history.

I treated my husband to an early Valentine’s gift. We were able to get seats in the orchestra area and has a delightful time. This was our first time here and we look forward to returning. The venue is beautiful and the staff very friendly.

Pepe Romero was amazing for the time he was there

by GuitarLegend on 2/15/18Terrace Theater - Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center - Long Beach

The flamenco dancing was stellar! Pepe Romero's talent lived up to his legendary status. The only criticism of what was billed as a night with Pepe Romero was that he only played three songs and the remainder of the evening was the Long Beach Symphony.

    Spanish Nights was wonderful!

by WhiteCarabao on 2/6/18Terrace Theater - Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center - Long Beach

The program got off to a rousing start with "Ritmo Jondo" in a bravura performance by Flamenco dancer Arleen Hurtado accompanied by two palmeros and some unexpected orchestration. Chabrier's "España" was colorful and "noisy" as the composer intended -- distinctly a Frenchman's impression of Spain. The highlight of the night was, of course, Pepe Romero! What can I say about this grand master of the guitar? After the lengthy standing ovation, Pepe revealed that he was in a sense "sandwiched" between his father (the composer) and the guitar of his son on which he performed "Concierto de Málaga" -- a breathtaking performance by a delightful performer. The rest of the concert was the two beloved orchestral standbys: "Capriccio Espagnol" by Rimsky-Korsakov and ""Carmen Suites 1 & 2" by Bizet performed with great panache by the Long Beach Symphony and a surprise performance by Arleen Hurtado as "Carmen". My only wish was for more Spanish compositions. We are sure that the always lively Eckert Preu would give them a firey performance.

Worth the 1.5-hour drive up from San Diego!

by starmusic3 on 2/6/18Terrace Theater - Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center - Long Beach

The venue is lovely, the hall sounds great, the orchestra was top-notch, and the new conductor was great. Adding the flamenco dancer was a lot of fun too! But OMG Pepe Romero was fantastic, and had a funny and heart-warming story about his son being there decades ago as a child during rehearsals, and now as the maker of the incredible guitar Pepe played. It was a wonderful evening.

    Disappointed

by Anonymous on 2/6/18Terrace Theater - Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center - Long Beach

I was really disappointed in the symphony. My expectations was that the orchestra was going to focus on the Spanish Flamenco and on the famous guitarist Pepe Romero. While the flamenco dancer, her accompanist and Pepe Romero were outstanding, not enough time was spent experiencing them. When the symphony played it sounded like a version of Jingle Bells or something Disney created. It was fluffy and did not sound Spanish at all. Which really bored me. That and the fact that Pepe Romero's family was sitting all the way at the top of the auditorium spoke of disrespect. I don't know whose in charge down there but they need to change is up to something current and relevant, not old school and Disney.

    Pepe is the greatest

by BuckeyeMirz on 2/6/18Terrace Theater - Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center - Long Beach

Pepe Romero provided an amazing performance. His guitar playing skills are unmatched, playing with one hand...Ididn't know it could be done ! His encore was especially satisfying. The Long Beach Phil did a great job with their rendition of Carmen, and the Flamenco dancer made the "Spanish evening" complete.

Pepe Romero and Arleen Hurtado breathtaking.

by lmharris005 on 2/6/18Terrace Theater - Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center - Long Beach

I was able to get front row seats for Pepe Romero as a Christmas present for my classical guitarist husband! Pepe Romero is flawless. We were drawn into his playing - his technique and talent held us in suspended hypnotic joy. Arleen Hurtado was breathtaking. Maestro Eckart Preu puts every ounce of his experience into his conducting. A beautiful romantic night. The talk before hand gave us the depth needed to enjoy all of the music and dance. Let me see....in order of teamwork The singer The dancer The guitarist The palmas Wish we could get season tickets.

    Not enough Pepe Romero

by Lalix on 2/6/18Terrace Theater - Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center - Long Beach

I had thought that Pepe Romero would be more featured, but this concert was more about the Long Beach Symphony. A Spanish dancer made only a brief appearance, and two promised “plameros” were no shows. Lastly, when Pepe Romero did play, he was hard to hear well.
