Getting to see such an icon up close and personal - priceless
One of the best live shows I have seen in a long time! The entire band was incredible! A lot of energy and soul...
Excellent show. The musicians were world class. Perfect balance. Would like to see them again
Great sound (especially for Uptown acoustics) - took 15 people to deliver it, but they sure did. Stevie preaching the power of music, and giving us a bit of a history lesson - somebody's got to do it, so why not him? He's learned to talk to us, like Bruce used to. Superb horn section (no longer called the Miami Horns?), and the backup trio had not only a great sound, but fantastic moves. They're a lot easier to look at than Stevie, I'm sure he'd agree. Two hour plus show can't be easy on him, or some of his mature band members, but he (and they) put it all out the whole time. Love to see the Disciples again someday. BTW, should have been better promotion in Kansas City.
I had never had the opportunity to see Little Steven and The Disciples Of Soul before-am I glad I finally did! When the lights went up and I counted 14 band members riffing on "Do You Like Soul Music" while looking toward the wing for Little Steven to emerge, my jaw dropped. It was one of the most powerful musical experiences I've ever seen and heard-like standing next to the tracks when four locomotives pulling 120 cars roar by! The three backing vocalists added immensely to the sights and sounds, and Little Steven got to shred on guitar like he never gets to do with The E Street Band. I was hoarse and happy at the end, and uplifted by Steven and the band's message of brotherhood through music. These people don't get to tour often-don't miss them now, for who knows when your next chance may come?
Great show and he covered a long history of music from the fifties on. So cool to see real musicians!
This is a good show, go and have fun. If you’re expecting Bruce Springsteen you’ll be disappointed...it’s not...but, this is a talented musician doing his thing. That said, if you like horns, blues and soul, You’ll have fun. Typical Albany, not a big crowd, so we had decent seats which turned into great seats.
The show was great! Little Stevie is a true artist! It was a fun night!!
Little Steven and The Disciples of Soul put on a great show at the Palace Theater in Albany, NY, May 4, 2018. Everyone was on their feet dancing and having a wonderful time. Little Steven is an unbelievable performer. He's an artist who makes you laugh, makes you cry, makes you think, but best of all, he supports kids , teachers, and Rock 'n' Roll. Just love him!!!
Can't wait for the new album to come out because many of the songs on it sounded great. I was surprised by the variety of the set list, which included a lot of tunes from many many years ago. I loved his early solo albums after he left the E Street Band. High energy night but you knew that was the case when you saw 15 players on the stage. Fantastic horn section. Great backup singers. Mark Ribler did a heck of a job coordinating it all. Usually don't see the same group back to back, but I'm seriously considering hitting the Count Basie show that's coming up.
At this writing, this appears to be a one-off with no U.S. tour in sight but Steve assembled a big band - 14 strong - to cover his entire career with a little extra focus on his upcoming album Soul Fire. Since he hasn’t toured as a front man in 25-or-so years, it’s easy to forget that he was responsible for so many of the early Southside Johnny songs or that he has written for movie soundtracks or he has his own (over looked) albums,. But tonight two-and-a-half hours of songs got the full big-band treatment with guitars and horns wailing behind 3 backup singers. Great covers, too – Etta James ‘The Blues Is My Business’ and James Brown’s ‘Down and Out in New York City’ and a set-closing ‘Can I Get A Witness’. The night was a smashing success even before the appearance of Bruce Springsteen for the encore for a duet with Steve on his ‘Long, Long Time’ and a rocking wrap-up of Chuck Berry’s ‘Bye Bye Johnny’.
The triumphant return of Little Steven & the Disciples of Soul! A brilliant journey through Van Zandt's songwriting career of four decades, from his days with the Asbury Jukes through his solo albums through new material unveiled at the show. Fantastic show from start to finish ... and what a finish: Bruce Springsteen joined Steve for the encore, performing "It's Been a Long Time" (an old Jukes tune) and"Bye Bye Johnny" (an old Chuck Berry song). one of the best shows i've seen in a long time.
Steve Van Zandt is a man of many talents, guitarist, songwriter, Producer, radio DJ and innovator, actor and band frontman. I have not seen Steven front a band in 30 years. He performed that role very well. The backing band is a tight assembly of diverse musicians. The set list was equally diverse covering his long list of great songs he has written over 40 years. The surprise of the show for me was not the obvious choice (Bruce playing the last 2 songs and his shredding guitar solo) great but the real surprise was the strong vocal performance during the entire concert by Steven Van Zandt. For one night I revered why I have followed his music for 40 years. I forgot he was Silva or Frank the Fixer, just Little Steven.
Little Steven and Disciples of Soul nailed it. Little Steven led an amazing energetic band with all the right sounds. Great vocals and guitars. The dancers were fun and the night closed with an incredible finale with the Boss.
I always wanted to be one of those lucky ones who went to see a show and have Bruce Springsteen show up unannounced. Well, now I am. Steven played selections from throughout his solo career and work with the Jukes, some covers and a few new songs that appear on his upcoming album. The band was tight. And did I mention Springsteen showed up?
