LISA LOEB IN CONCERT:

Two decades ago Lisa Loeb became the first unsigned artist to top the pop charts when her 1994 debut single "Stay (I Missed You) defied all expectations and hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Today the bewitching, bespectacled singer-songwriter remains just as full of surprises, juggling careers as a children's music artist, a reality TV personality, a Food Network host, and -- of course -- a beloved musical performer. Loeb's ninth album No Fairy Tale was a confessional collection of finely crafted songs that reminded fans just why she hit it big in the '90s, and her live shows on tour continue to prove her mettle as a performer. From the vulnerable appeal of her debut smash to empowering torch songs like "I Do", Loeb always treats fans to personality, wit, and heartfelt emotion to spare on her must-see tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Maryland-born, Texas-raised Lisa Loeb studied piano during her childhood before switching to guitar in her teens. She started performing while attending Rhode Island's Brown University, where she formed the short-lived group Liz and Lisa with her friend Elizabeth Mitchell and guitarist Duncan Sheik. By the early ‘90s Loeb was making a name for herself on the NYC coffeehouse circuit with her solo acoustic performances. Her involvement in the local arts scene led to a friendship with actor Ethan Hawke, and in 1994 her song "Stay (I Missed You)" was featured in the Hawke-starring film Reality Bites. The song was an overnight sensation, topping the Hot 100 and receiving a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Performance. Loeb followed up in 2005 with her first album Tails, an auspicious debut that landed three singles on the charts including “Do You Sleep” and “Waiting for Wednesday”. Since then she has regularly released albums while also launching her own eyewear line, appearing on a reality TV series about her life, and releasing several children’s books. Despite her busy schedule, the ever-prolific Loeb still makes time for her first creative loves – writing and performing music.

    Lisa's still got it!

by slabhead on 4/10/13Variety Playhouse - Atlanta

I wasn't sure if Lisa would still have the same magic from years ago when she (and the rest of us) were much younger. Her latest CD is a bit more pop-rock than her old acoustic rock and I was curious as to what the show would hold. Good news: the new stuff was great, the old stuff sounded fresh, and Lisa was charming. Sound at the Variety Playhouse is usually (though not always) good and this concert was no exception. I had no trouble hearing all the instruments, the vocal mix was spot on, and it was loud enough to thump without being piercing. Nice job, sound guy!

    Awesome concert!

by Abbler6 on 3/18/13Florida Theatre Jacksonville - Jacksonville

My husband is a big fan of Lisa from her 90's songs and "Stay" has been one of my favorite songs since I first heard it. Her concert did not disappoint! She was funny, entertaining and of course, played great songs! We really liked how she played the perfect variety of her new songs and her older songs too. Lisa is a fantastic singer-song writer who seems to never age! She was really fun in this smaller setting at the Florida Theater. We were really surprised that there weren't more people there, but everyone who was got to see a great show! She made me an even bigger fan after this concert.

    Lisa Loeb was absoulutely great

by TheByrdman on 3/18/13Florida Theatre Jacksonville - Jacksonville

She played a lot of her older music--making sure she included all the fans favorites. She mixed in some great new songs. She was joking with the audience...in great spirits. She did a solo set during which she took requests. She told stories about the origins of some of the songs. She was absolutely great.

Lisa Loeb Shines in Coffeehouse Setting

by Fiend4Music on 2/26/13The Independent - San Francisco

Lisa Loeb is touring to support her new album “No Fairy Tale”. I’ve been listening to and enjoying it on Spotify since I bought my ticket to her show. I love that she chose to promote her album at smaller venues. The Independent had an intimate set up with tables and chairs. It was like being in a coffee house. She started her show with the title track of her new album. Her personality on stage was fun and witty. As she tuned her guitar between songs she would tell stories about what she had been doing on her tour. One story was about being interviewed and seeing the interviewers eyes pleading for her to wrap it up. The audience laughed when she did the look. There was a portion of the show where she took requests. One of the requests, from a man in Hello Kitty glasses she met outside the club, was “How” from the movie “Twister”. As she started to play, she stopped and said something like “Wait, how does it go again?” She struggled a bit with the lyrics but made it through the whole song with help from the crowd. I respect her for not being afraid to do a song she doesn’t perform often because of fear of not knowing the words. It was an absolute joy to watch her perform her knew songs as well as several of her classics – “Stay (I Missed You)”, “Do You Sleep?”, “I Do” and “Garden of Delights” included. After the show she came out to signed autographs and take pictures with her fans. She was very sweet and talked to everyone without rushing people through. Bottom line is that Lisa Loeb is absolutely adorable and a must see if you have the chance. Satellite, the opening band, didn’t really stand out to me. I was distracted by the drummer’s tongue hanging out like a dog with its head out of a car window as he played. The lead singer’s pants weren’t very tight, but I could still see where his boxer briefs ended on his thighs. There wasn’t a song that resonated with me. They’ve only been around a few years, I’m sure they will find their niche.
