In this age of vocal competition, it is lovely just to hear a warm, solid voice putting across really fine material, backed by a band at just the right volume. No ear-splitting, shrill high notes, no blaring wild guitars. Linda Kosut doesn't need any of that to bring us home to the songs we all love. In this case, the Mike Greensil Trio, always classy, was a joy all in itself. With Kosut, in the upscale but not expensive Society Cabaret, I felt I was having a million dollar evening. Kosut spent three years researching Johnny Green, who wrote the unforgettable "Body and Soul," unearthing along the way tunes which have been buried for too long in the Library of Congress Archives. From fast-paced swing to luxurious ballad, we all went happily along with the engaging Kosut. We all need more of these musical experiences.
