    Friggin spectacular night!

by msdecember on 7/24/10Nokia Theatre Times Square - New York City

All I can say is that Level 42 are better than ever. I can't believe how 30 years have passed yet they sound like not a day has gone by. They are at their peak.... Mark King engagement with his audience is so natural. Mike Lindup sounds SUPERB.... with the rest of the band exceeding expectations. One of the best concerts I've ever been to. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this group!

    Level 42-AMAZING SHOW-THROUGH THE ROOF!!!

by Lizzardi on 7/24/10Nokia Theatre Times Square - New York City

First things first, it has been 25 years since I have seen Level 42 in action as they don't get here to the states. Now, add in the fact that some of the players have left (The Goulds) and you would think it would be a bit disappointing, right? WAY WAY OFF. The guys that Mark and Mike have gotten together are amazing. It was great to watch Mark and Mike up close, especially given Mark's slap bass technique which is like no one I've ever seen before. The only thing that was challenging was there was not enough seating. I did not like the idea that I had to stand the entire time. It was worth it to stand and REALLY worth the wait!

    Level 42 @ Nokia

by THRAK2 on 7/24/10Nokia Theatre Times Square - New York City

I've seen well over a thousand shows in my life and this is in the top 10 for sure. Just incredible energy, incredible playing, incredible songs, a jacked up audience and a very visibly appreciative band at a very reasonable ticket price. Memorable in every way.

Level42 - 'Livin' it up, I can feel it!'

by Kouyate on 7/24/10Nokia Theatre Times Square - New York City

I've been a fan since Level42 broke the US scene with 'Something About You' in '85. Mark King is the reason I strove for excellence in playing slap-bass, in fact, beyond any past and present players, he is my only slap-bass influence. The ensemble's compositions display their musical prowess with ablomb! The interplay between King and Pete Ray Biggin (Amy Winehouse's drummer?!) was indescribable-Biggin can hang with the 'vets' easily! Nathan King on guitar was a treat! Waited to see how he'd sussed the old Gould/Murphy bits-very well indeed, and has a fine voice to boot! He's a perfect fit for Level42 and I hope he enjoys a long tenure in their 'golden' years! Lindup executed it all with the finesse and ease that only comes from years of being in love with your music (vocally unchanged since the old days, too!). And need I mention the 'flurry' of Mark King's unstoppable thumb? Yes, all the parts ARE that complex and he makes it look like a 'dawdle' to quote him. What else can I say-30 years?! Better get out there and see them before they retire to the country estate! A dream come true!

    Level 42

by rwrate on 7/24/10Nokia Theatre Times Square - New York City

I saw Level 42 play the Nokia last night as was completely blown away. Not only did they play almost everything I wanted to hear, but their musicianship was second to none. Mark King is the undisputed "king" of the bass. Even with a bit of a technical glitch, he blew his solo out of the water. Every member of the band was on top of their game. I had heard that they were playing with a different drummer and that he might be a weak link in an otherwise stellar lineup. Nothing could be further from the truth. He was a flury of energy, power, and preciseness that should be the envy of others who sit behind the kit. A broken stick didn't even slow him down as he finished a song sporting just one. I had never seen a show at the Nokia and I was very happy with the layout and acoustics of the venue. I would see another show there without hesitation. If anyone were to ask me if they should check out Level 42, I would tell them to run, not walk to the theater to check them out. Amazing doesn't even come close to describing their performance.

Level 42 are still the brilliant musicians and artists they were when i last saw them in 1986 at the NEC in Birmingham. Mark King is still Brilliant on the Bass, The vocals of Mark and Mike Lindup, still sound as good as ever. For any Level 42 fan this is a must see event! All the emotions come flooding back The whole concert was truly outstanding!

    Don't miss this band

by DickieUK on 7/24/10Nokia Theatre Times Square - New York City

It may be the 30th anniversary tour, but quite honestly you won't get a better gig from any of the current bands. King and Lindup sing & play out of their skins, for all the great tunes you know and love, and the new lineup works just as well as the original. No new material which isn't a surprise , but I sure hope they're working on some. Don't miss any opportunity to see this band live

    Awesome!

    by Leo351 on 7/23/10Birchmere - Alexandria

Wow! I last saw these guys in 1987 in the UK (three times) and they are as good now as they ever were. If you get the chance to see them during this US tour, do it, you will not be dissapointed. I can't thank Mark, Mike and all the guys for a great show, very personal and very respectful of the fans being there to support them! Still the best band I have seen live!

    Great Job, Boys!

by MsOregon on 7/23/10Birchmere - Alexandria

I've waited 20+ years to see Level 42 play again and they didn't disappoint. Mark, Mike and the new guys looked and sounded terrific. Great vocals, great jamming, and watching Mark work the bass is such a treat. Still love every song after all these years. Just wish they'd played longer and hope they come back to the States soon.

    Level 42 Fantastic

    by Mert20837 on 7/23/10Birchmere - Alexandria

Band was really 'on' and 'tight.' Very enthusiastic audience. Only problem when the band invited audience to dance and then I couldn't see any more. Also had to look around phones that were video taping even though it was expressly prohibited. Music got a bit too loud at the end. Overall quite a night!

    Level 42: simply amazing!!

    by Notlaw1 on 7/23/10Birchmere - Alexandria

The Birchmere has always been my favorite venue, so when I saw Level 42's 30th Anniversay tour coming to the U.S. (a dozen dates) I had to check them out. The British band is currently led by founding members Mark King (bass & vocals) & Mike Lindup (keyboards & vocals) augmented with a drummer (Pete), guitarist & saxophonist. In so many words, this show far exceeded my expectations. King & Lindup are virtuosos on their prospective instruments, while handing all the lead vocals. The band was so funky & tight; it literally had me exhausted watching these men play 64th notes together and to precision. Not so much fusion oriented stuff, but very smart pop/funk songs with catchy grooves & melodies. Incredible musicianship & showmanship.

    Welcome back!!

    by interChemistry7 on 7/23/10Birchmere - Alexandria

Saw Level 42 last night in Alexandria Va and was blown away!!! Great small venue and even better sound system. The band were tight and the performance was incredible to say the least. Mark King was in great form as he led the band through a set of greatest "hits" and rarities from their 30 year history. Mike Lindup is back on Keyboards and vocals so the sound was vintage Level 42. The new drummer was freaking fantastic and had the feel/ energy of Phil Gould channeled perfectly. This was the concert of the year for me. Highly recommended to all!!

Sound just as sharp as 1980

by Levelbest on 7/23/10Birchmere - Alexandria

30 years later these guys still sound great. From Mike's soarning keyboards, to Mark's furious bass playing to Nathan's guitar work - there wasn't a dissapointing moment in the night. They played thru all the hits though didn't play a single song from their latest effort "Retroglide". The set ran about 100 minutes with encore.

    Brilliant

As Mark King said at the end of the show, "BRILLIANT"! They were, and the audience ate it up. They're a must-see!

    Level 42 WOW!

    by 4TJM on 7/23/10Birchmere - Alexandria

We had the best time last night. Level 42 was awesome!!! Whoever said that age mattered? Mike King was amazing; he sang and played that bass as if he was back in the 80's. Kudos to the drummer as well, he was unbelievable and not to mention cute too! My only complaint was that the show ended :) We can't wait for their next show!!! Good Luck Level 42 and we wish you continued success... Many Blessings!
