ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK’S BIG BOO

LEA DELARIA LIVE IN CONCERT

“(DeLaria) swings hard, and scats and bends notes in a style that suggests a no-frills Betty Carter on steroids.” The New York Times

Lea DeLaria, “Big Boo” on Orange is the New Black brings her live show to Sydney for one night only.

Known for her frank out spoken politics and big personality, DeLaria is not one to shy away from comedy that will bite hard and elicit gales of laughter. Her new show features hits from her latest album House Of David: delaria+bowie=jazz. and shows off not just DeLaria’ s comic genius but her spectacular vocal range in songs such as ‘Fame’, ‘Young Americans’ and Let’s Dance.

With a velvet-smooth voice contrasting perfectly with razor-sharp wit and sassy stage presence, this will be a spectacular performance.

    Jazz show, not comedy

    by Lauren35 on 10/24/17The Wilbur - Boston

I have to say I was disappointed with Lea DeLaria's show because it was not what I expected. The advertising for this show make it seem like a comedy show, but it was mostly Lea singing Jazz. She's a great singer, but I thought I was going to get to hear more comedy. The small amount of time she did spend doing stand up was hilarious.

    Even better than I expected

by OrangeBlackFan on 10/18/17The Wilbur - Boston

If you're ok with in your face lesbian comedy then I highly recommend Lea Delaria. She was very funny and an excellent jazz singer. She did her "House of David" David Bowie covers which were phenomenal. My wife and I had a great time.

    Not a comedy show

    by Mihhdd56 on 10/18/17The Wilbur - Boston

I came to see Lea Dellaria because I heard she was a funny comedian. The show actually turned put to be her singing jazz versions of David Bowie songs. She is a very good singer, but this was not what I thought I signed up for. She actually wasn't funny at all when she tried to be, just mean. I totally agreed with her when she went off on Trump et al., but it wasn't actually funny. There was nothing witty or amusing about it. Calling everyone in the room "bitches" isn't witty either. Making people laugh because they are uncomfortable isn't the same thing as being funny. So maybe it was better that she sang, but I did not know a lot of the songs in the first place, plus I would rather hear the original version of them. Plus I woul d have appreciated getting some sort of hint about what the show was going to be. I actually left in the middle.

    Not a comedy show!

by ELKBM on 10/18/17The Wilbur - Boston

This event was listed under “comedy” on Ticketmaster so I was under the impression we were going to see a stand up show. The event was a musical event - a jazz show. Which was enjoyable because Lea Delaria has a great voice and is entertaining. It just wasn’t what we were expecting. If you love her jazz, you will LOVE this show. If you want to see her stand up, skip this. She only had one or two small interludes with a handful of (funny) jokes.
