I went to their first US tour show back in May and I bought the tickets for this show 6 months in advance! I love Last Dinosaurs and was so excited for this concert. Ginger Roots and Born Ruffians were the opening acts. These two bands were so professional and talented! Each set was so clean musically and they played with such great musicianship and energy. Unfortunately, it pains me to say that this wasn't the case for Last Dinosaurs. I truly did not recognize them this time around.
Flashing back to their first show in NYC back in May, Last Dinosaurs had a PHENOMENAL show with amazing energy, band unity and precision of the music. They really sounded just like their recordings. It was a truly memorable show. This time around, there seemed to be many things lacking. Don't get me wrong, as a professional singer myself, I understand that we are all human and mistakes will be made. Fatigue happens and we can't always sound like the recording. However, I had been watching the bands Instagram stories leading up to this show and I'm sure their partying didn't help with the fatigue and sore throats. As soon as they stepped on stage, the energy dropped. Latch (the lead guitarist) looked extremely hungover, and I honestly thought he might puke on stage. In the middle of the set he chugged honey (and later on beer), hoping it would help with his sore throat, but it was too late at this point. His voice was shot and he could not sing his songs. In general, it felt as if the band was not in sync. The drummer was playing way too loud and fast, throwing off the sound and tempo of the other musicians. This was such as shame because you weren't able to hear many of the intricate guitar leads and syncopation/rhythms that make their music so special. I really could go on and on about everything that felt off about this performance, and while it wasn't necessarily a "bad" performance I was just hugely disappointed in the lack of consistency and energy from the band as a whole. It's just so sad to see a band with such talent and potential not be able to deliver consistently.
I hope Last Dinosaurs learns from this and continues to grow as a band. I hope their future shows are as amazing as the first one was! I really do love their music and wish them nothing but the best.
