About

Larry Coryell deserves a special place in the history books. He brought what amounted to a nearly alien sensibility to jazz electric guitar playing in the 1960s, a hard-edged, cutting tone, phrasing and note-bending that owed as much to blues, rock and even country as it did to earlier, smoother bop influences.

Main Act: Larry Coryell

Supporting Act(s): Joe Chindamo Trio

    Jump Hendrix, Who? Horrific

by Dorined on 11/30/15B.B. King Blues Club & Grill - New York

The Jimi Hendrix 73rd birthday celebration at BB Kings was a big disappointment. The "tribute" barely had anything to do with Hendrix aside from some sister of the brother of the uncle who shined his shoes one time back in the 60s performing a song (NOT Hendrix's music, of course) on stage. Poorly. The disorganization of the event left the audience plenty of time for conversation (probably in disbelief about the shoddy event) with each other (Really? During a concert?). Some of the musical talent was, in fact that, talented. Therefore, should have been addressed as that and not under the false pretense of a tribute.

    Jimi Birthday Celebration

by bar10der on 11/30/15B.B. King Blues Club & Grill - New York

I was pretty disappointed with this show. It was supposed to be a celebration for Jimi. We heard a few Jimi songs and, the rest was Larry Coryell and his band. If i wanted to hear jazz, i would've went to The Blue Note. Well,at least i have tickets to the "real" Jimi celebration at the Kings Theater in March. That should be awesome.

    Truly exceptional

by Bocadogz on 2/17/15Rose & Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center - Ft Lauderdale

I listened to Larry when I went on one of my jazz phases during college. I was so glad to hear that he was coming to FL and was ready to experience a nice mellow concert yet I was so positively blown away by the artistry and energy of the trio. They had such incredible connection and feeling which they transmitted to the crowd and humor to boot. What incredible musicianship from Larry on guitars, Larry Gray on acoustic bass and Paul Wertico on drums. Gray and Wertico can each easily carry a show by themselves. I would see them again in a heartbeat. Thanks guys!
