Lang Lang exudes nothing but total confidence. His playing is fluid and the music comes easy to him. How lucky, he is! He is the "Horowitz" of China. But therein lies the problem. Lang Lang becomes more important than the music. No regard for the composer's intentions and style whatsoever. Hence, a very shallow style of playing. For example, he "milked" the second movement of the Liszt concerto, so much so that one had to wait and wait ...for the next note. It did not sound Liszt-like at all.
In comparison, the Russian pianist Kissin, is a prodigy in the truest sense. His playing is a cut above Lang Lang's. Also, the Chinese pianist, Yundi Li, has a much better style of playing. Very sensitive to sound, and obeys the composer's intentions. Wish Lang Lang could keep his arrogance aside and be sincere in his playing.
