La Sonora Dinamita In Concert
Internationally renowned cumbia legends La Sonora Dinamita (The Dynamite Sound) returned to their roots in 2016 with ‘Junto por la Sonora' (Together for the Sound). The album nodded to the Colombian band's origins by featuring vocalist Daniela Argaín, daughter of founding bandleader Lucho Argaín, and renewed La Sonora's long history with Mexico by featuring nearly two dozen guest artists from that country.
La Sonora Dinamita's long cumbia journey began in Cartagena in 1960, when the Discos Fuentes label launched the música tropical institution under Argaín's direction. When the group's blend of salsa and cumbia failed to take off, it was reformed in 1975 under the leadership of Discos Fuentes artistic director Julio Ernesto Estrada "Fruko" Rincón.
Fruko quickened the beat and finessed Sonora's walking bass lines, sparkling electric piano, and unison horn parts into a matchless hit machine. The reborn group recorded its first album, ‘La Fulminante' (Devastation) in Mexico, and its success launched a wave of cumbia madness across Latin America.
Fruko's cumbia innovation continued in 1981 with the addition of Mélida Yará Yanguma — aka La India Meliyará — to La Sonora's lineup. She was the first of many female performers — including Lucha López, Vilma Díaz, and cumbia "goddess" Margarita Vargas — who were nurtured by the ensemble and who later enjoyed brilliant solo careers.
La Sonora cemented its reputation throughout the '80s and '90s with hits that included "Amor de Mis Amores" (Love of My Loves), "Escándola" (Scandal), "A Mover la Colita" (Move Your Ass), and "Mi Cucu," a million-selling remake of Sidney Simien's crossover zydeco smash, "My Toot Toot." Albums like ‘Éxitos Tropicosos' (Tropical Hits) and ‘32 Cañonazos' (32 Greatest Hits) collected the best of their cumbia.
In 2016, the estate of La Sonora Dinamita founder Luis Guillermo Pérez Cedrón legally reestablished his ownership despite counterfeit combos exploiting the group's name. Anyone needing proof of La Sonora's authenticity today, however, need look no further than ‘Juntos por la Sonora,' a 22-track collection of La Sonora hits and traditional cumbias accompanied by as many stars of Mexican music. Some of these — including Dr. Shenka, Pablo Montero, Coque Muñiz, and Mariana Seoane — also have been joining La Sonora Dinamita onstage.

great concert and environment. A little confusing at first for the people sitting upstairs, you have to ask around a bit.
So much fun! Everyone was dancing! Nothing but straight jams
The event was excellent. Would like to see them again. Thank you for having these great events.
Shortest show ever :( Disappointed - ends later, closer to 11pm-12
The performance was great but was disappointed that it only lasted a little over an hour. The show was supposed to have started at 8 but didn’t start until 8:45 and they stopped playing at around 9:45. Went to the Selena concert the week before and that didn’t end until around midnight because the band continued to play.
The show started approximately an hour and forty minutes after everyone was allowed inside the venue. The time gave plenty of time to grab beverages prior to the show. The Sonora Dinamita gave a very engaging, fun, stroll through memory lane of some of their memorable tunes. I had plenty of laughs, singing along and smiles.
The concert was great. My wife and i had a lot of fun.
This was our second time at this venue. We love it here. The Sonora was great. We danced allot. They didn't take one break and we're really entertaining.
Event was great however the sound at the beginning was awful, once Sonora Dinamita started it got better but during Las Chikas it was really bad! And it was HOT HOT HOT in there. Was the air not working???? Good thing the band made up for it cause they were GREAT!!!
DJ was good the celia cruz band was ok. But Sonora Dinamita was awesome and FUN.
La Sonora Dinamita was Awesome. What a great show they put on the the RMA. The opening act (Las Chikas) was ok but had several sound/microphone issues. But once La Sonora Dinamita came out it was all good and no sound issues at all, just an Awesome show that had everyone dancing and singing! The venue is great but gets really hot. Overall the awesome show made it all worth it!
The shows at the House of Blues continue to be awesome with the acts, lights, and sounds. Staff is great on service and attitude. But now exiting the Garden Walk has been problematic as they are changing to an automated system getting rid of actual people to take your money. Slows up the system, only one kiosk available that takes cash. It is inconveniently not located by the House of Blues but two floors down in the middle of the parking lot. Add to that HOB now only validates 1 hour of parking guarantees that attendees will have to pay additional parking fees. My concert dollars now have to factor in a convenience factor when planning to go to a concert at HOB or not.
This concert was fantastic. The 2 latin bands were superb!! Cant wait till they return to thunder valley
I had fun dancing especially I enjoyed both performances by La Sonora Dinamita and Sonora Santanera. Will be going to their future concerts!
This was my first time seeing them live. I've loved their music for many years. This is my favorite cumbia band. The concert was pretty amazing and a lot of fun. I loved the venue. I danced so much that my feet hurt afterward. I ended up taking photos with three of the band members in the casino after the concert. They were so friendly. I am looking forward to their next concert. ❤️ I LOVE YOU LA SONORA DINAMITA
I really like both bands but for the amount of money I paid it was not worth it, The show started at 8pm and over by 940pm every person that attendeted was so dissatisfy and started booing the bands and complaing. We got there late so we paid a total of $52.00 for an hour show. Never coming back
