La Mafia was founded in 1980 in Houston, Tx. Vocalist Oscar De La Rosa & producer/keyboardist/accordionist Armando Lichtenberger Jr. have created an original style that has survived various changes in the music industry. As the 80s faded away and ushered in the '90s, La Mafia, already with over a dozen Tejano Music Awards under their belt, originated a new Tejano style later to become a Tejano standard. La Mafia combined a pop-style beat to the popular Mexican-style cumbia and achieved success never before seen in the Tejano industry, becoming the first Tejano artist to sell over one million albums with "Estás Tocando Fuego" in 1992. With extensive touring with this new cumbia beat throughout Mexico & Latin America from as early as 1988 (the practice of Mexican-American artists performing in Mexico on a large scale was unheard of before La Mafia) , they eventually opened the doors for such artists as Selena, Emilio Navaira and Grupo Mazz. Electronic instruments and synthesizers increasingly dominated the sound, and Tejano music increasingly appealed to bilingual country and rock fans.
The band consists of Tim Ruiz on bass, David de la Garza on keyboards and background vocals, Joe Gonzales on drums and Viktor Pacheco on Guitar in 2007. The band has won 2 Grammys & 2 Latin Grammys several Premio Lo Nuestro and was most recently nominated in 2009 for a Latin Grammy for the most recent album "Eternamente Romanticos"

People were so excited that they all started dancing & singing. Participating made the concert a lot more exciting! There were no boundaries!

Because i sat at the outer edge of row i easily was able to get up and dance. Seats are okay but because we had the last seats on the room we unhooked them to move a bit way to have more elbow room. Glad we chose those seats.

by Chota on 6/30/11Pharr Events Center - PharrSiggno and La Mafia were ok but the rest of the groups sucked. I would recommend that next time, they just opend the doors to the venue at 1000 instead of 800 and save themselves the expense of having to pay for junk music. What made it worse, was the the prices for the food and beer were ridiculous. I can understand paying 5 dollars for a beer if I were in San Antonio, Houston, or a city that has a venue that does not look like a barn. Seating was horrible, and the dance floor looked like nothing more than plywood thrown on the floor. In closing I can say that the music was okay, but the venue sucked. I would never go to this place again.

The show provided hit after hit after hit spanning all 30 years of their Legacy. For those of you that missed out Catch it on DVD as it will be out soon. 5 Star Concert and Amazing!!!!!

They went through 30 years of their music by highlighting a couple for every decade. Wow!! Sitting in my seat every song hit a memory and took me back to growing up and listening to them. I'm glad we didn't miss out.

La Mafia allowed us the fans to share with them all that is good about our music, our culture, and our lives! For so many, La Mafia and their music and performances have left an indelible imprint in our hearts. On Sunday, they shared their Intimos Momentos, and reached out to us as family. We felt the love, and we gave it right back! La Mafia chose to make this celebration Para el Pueblo, and the people, and I include myself, want to give Un Millon de Gracias to La Mafia and their wonderful staff for taking on such a massive task and exceeding all of our expectations! La Mafia-Ahora y Siempre!

I been jamming out to the La mafia for 25 years. The whole family enjoyed it. I'm just so happy that I didn't miss the best concert ever. Thank you for giving us the chance of seeing them all in one night.

This concert is one that I will never forget, since La Mafia is my favorite tejano group. My wife and friends really had a hell of a great time remembering all of the La Mafia hits from the 80's, 90's, and current hits. For everyone who was at the concert, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.
