La India In Concert

Blessed with a vivacious vibrato that can instantly lure spectators to the dance floor, La India has done it all, lending her voice to a wide range of musical styles. Whether belting out to freestyle, house music, Latin pop, or reggaeton, she marked her legacy as the Princess of Salsa — a grand title bestowed by the late salsa legend, Celia Cruz.

Born Linda Viera Caballero in Puerto Rico in 1969, La India was raised in the tropical haven of the South Bronx. She consumed a steady diet of Fania All-Stars, which included salsa masterminds like Hector Lavoe, Rubén Blades, and Johnny Pacheco.

La India began recording music with producer-turned-husband "Little Louie" Vega during the 1980s and released now-classic house jams "I Can't Get No Sleep" and "When You Touch Me" as part of Vega's Master at Work project. She also was a co-founding member of the Latin freestyle group TKA.

At the turn of the decade, the spirited singer announced her arrival in a big way when renowned salsa bandleader Eddie Palmieri heard the rising star unleash her towering pipes at the studio, which led to the release of ‘Llego La India via Eddie Palmieri.' Immersing herself deep into the world of tropical music, La India dropped her 1994 solo debut, the now 2x-gold certified ‘Dicen Que Soy' via RMM, New York's leading salsa label of that decade. Throughout the rest of the ‘90s, the singer continued to rise high, often seen collaborating with the likes of Marc Anthony, Celia Cruz, and Tito Puente.

To date, La India has reached No. 1 six times in Billboard's U.S. Tropical Albums charts, including her latest 2015 tribute to one of Mexico's most prolific composers — ‘Intensamente Con Canciones de Juan Gabriel,' which also peaked at No. 3 in the U.S. Latin Albums charts.

This was our first time seeing La India. She still got it. She sings so beautiful. It was awesome and everyone else that performed. The place was nice I suggest that they have two lines for their drinks so that it can move faster overall, everything was great.

  • Less improvising

by Mari on 5/13/25Lehman Center for the Performing Arts - BronxRating: 3 out of 5

La India did not sing a complete song. She improvised a little too much. Her concert in 2023 at this same venue was a lot better than this one

  • AMAZING SHOW...until it ended abruptly

by Old Soul on 10/24/23Bergen Performing Arts Center - EnglewoodRating: 4 out of 5

La India did NOT disappoint. She and her band sounded absolutely amazing and I love the repoir they have with one another. India is a diva, but a very appreciative diva that doesn't take herself too seriously. HOWEVER, they played for only ONE hour. That is way too short, especially for the price of these tickets. I mean, there wasn't even an encore. Not even ONE! When I go to a concert, I expect a two hour show minimum. Some of my favorite artists, like Mana and Juanes play 3-hour long shows with encores and encores for the encore. Because of this, I'm probably never going to another one of her shows, but I'm very happy I went to this one.

by Long Time Fan on 10/18/23Bergen Performing Arts Center - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

The very best. La India didn’t disappoint. The crowd was so much fun dancing all night. She played all of her hits -salsa all night long and thanked the crowd for loving her music all of these years. Hell yea! Been a fan since the eighties and saw her performing her freestyle hits in the NJ club scene in the early 90’s. A fan forever!
