About

It’s impossible to imagine 1970s pop music without remembering Kool & the Gang, whose versatile, jazz/funk/R&B sound crossed musical genres into mainstream popular culture. With sales of tens of millions of albums worldwide, Kool & the Gang have influenced a generation of singers like Kriss Kross, Jermaine Dupri, Snoop Doggy Dogg, De La Soul and countless others. In concert, Kool & the Gang treat their ticket holders to a high energy extravaganza featuring a mix of old favorites and jazzy, funk-infused new songs that sizzle with intense, cascading rhythms. Today, the group celebrates not only 50 years in the music industry, but also its latest album, “Home for the Holidays,” which features holiday music performed in its unforgettable, jazzy funk-infused style and innovative sound.

Kool & the Gang got its start when a group of five high school buddies got together in 1964, performing contemporary, funk-based harmonies and arrangements. After the release of several albums featuring the lead vocals of J.T. Taylor, the group hit mainstream fame in 1973 with its album “Wild and Peaceful,” which featured mega hits like “Funky Stuff,” “Hollywood Swinging” and “Jungle Boogie.” They followed this success in 1980 with their blockbuster hit “Celebration,” which is considered by many to be the iconic musical anthem of the era. During the 1980s, they followed with a string of hits, including “Cherish” and “Fresh.” As musical styles changed into the 1990s, the next generation of hip-hop performers acknowledged how much they had been influenced by this pioneering group, and awards and accolades soon followed, including the National Association of Recording Merchandisers Chairman Award in recognition of the group's staggering record sales. In 2006, the group hit the Billboard R&B charts yet again with “Steppin’ into Love.” In 2012, with three of the original members still performing ( brothers “Kool” and Ronald Bell and George Brown), Kool & the Gang embarked on a highly successful tour with Van Halen. They followed this up with an extensive 2013-2014 worldwide concert tour that has included stops in several cities in Japan, Europe and the US. Today, enthusiastic ticket holders can expect to hear all their old favorites in concert, performed in that inimitable signature sound that has made this group a fan favorite and cultural phenomenon for half a century.

Great Kool show for the 28th time!!

by JMK2 on 9/26/09Tropicana Showroom - Atlantic City

The guys still have it after all these years! This is my and my friend's 28th show of Kool & the Gang. Although there are some new faces, the mix still works; musicians are fantastic and the vocals right on target. Can't wait to see them for the 29th time!

Kool & The Gang was awesome !!!

by Ivanya on 7/27/09B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

They were fabulous !! The best thing about Kool & the Gang is this: they always sound just like their recordings. They have the best musicians and singers - bar none. It helps that many of them are long timers. The showmanship is exemplary and they are totally in tune with what the fans like to hear. They are true professionals. They don't keep the crowd waiting for extended periods of time. They always give people their money's worth and more - 1.5hrs or more. Attending a Kool & the Gang concert is always a very exciting experience and it's always been that way. The majority of the audience was standing in the dance area in front of the stage and it was jam packed. The ages ranged from about 8 to 65. Just knowing that this band performs so consistently makes people want to come out to see them over and over. Everyone had fun. Many requested autographs and took their time about leaving.

Show was great. Seating was terrible.

by Lunyron1 on 7/27/09B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

The show was great. Well put together. My only problem was the seating. You can not expect to charge people money to see a show, and they are uncomfortable. The table should only fit 6, maybe you could push 8, but 10 people were unacceptable.

    Kool and the Gang

by BigEv on 7/26/09B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

Having seen Kool and the Gang for for close to 28 years now, I have to say that as always they never dissapoint you. Kool will always be my number one group to see, and hear. They work hard to entertain their audiences, and they seem to enjoy themselves at the same time. I cannot wait to see them again. Kool's music is how music should be today. Keep up the good work guys. Thanks

Kool & Gang was standing rm only--2 hrs b4 show!!!

by J3C3 on 7/25/09B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

BB Kings reduced the # of tables, so we couldn't have dinner @ the club although we got there 1-1/2 hrs early. They sent us to Lucille's next door (also owned by them) & the food was sub-par. They couldn't make a decent margarita, served a very well instead of medium burger, forgot the cheese platter & served a wrong entree. To make matters worse, it was standing room only for the show--for $60 bucks we were elbow to elbow!!!! Management claimed that people were waiting in line @ 4:30 & supposedly those people filled up every table when they opened @ 6:00. I don't believe it because the tables that were empty had reserved signs on them. People were really getting testy. The show itself was good, not the venue. Anyone buying tix should be warned in advance that they might be standing or eating somewhere else if not there by a particular time.
