KISHI BASHI IN CONCERT:
Singer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Kaoru Ishibashi has become a familiar face on stages around the world as a touring violinist for acts Of Montreal and Regina Spektor, but lately it's his solo indie rock project Kishi Bashi that has fans jamming out. His kaleidoscopic tunes mix lush violin, exotic Far East elements, swirling vocal harmonies, and electronic touches to create a brilliant and unique sonic world full of soaring melodies and head-spinning rhythms. At his live shows he brings buoyant tunes like "Bright Whites" and "Atticus in the Desert" to life with the help of a looping pedal and a full band including drums, banjo, and guitar, treating fans to dynamic performances that always get them moving and smiling.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Seattle-born, Virginia-raised Kaoru Ishibashi began playing the violin at age 7 and continued studying the instrument after high school at Boston's prestigious Berklee College of Music. In 2002 he moved to Brooklyn and formed the synthpop outfit Jupiter One with guitarist Zac Colwell. The band self-released several limited edition records in the mid-'00s, and in 2008 they dropped a self-titled debut album that landed them on tour with Regina Spektor. While on the road Ishibashi met Of Montreal founder Kevin Barnes, and joined him as a member of Of Montreal's touring band in 2010. The following year he returned to his parent's home in Virginia to begin recording his solo debut as Kishi Bashi. The result was 2012's 151a, a critical success that earned praise from NPR and received placement in commercials for Windows, Sony, and car company Smart. After a 2013 tour of the US and Europe in support of the release, Ishibashi issued his second album as Kishi Bashi, 2014's Lighght. The album peaked at No. 52 on the Billboard 200, a huge feat for a niche indie artist and cause for celebration among his loyal fanbase.
Kishi Bashi and Tall Tall Trees were amazing! i cant wait to see them live again i want to follow their tour totally worth the $25 tickets!! great show!!
It was the 10 year anniversary of 151A and they played the WHOLE THING. And an additional 10 or more songs! I absolutely loved every minute of it.
A truly incredible concert. Tall Tall Trees and Kishi Bashi were clearly thrilled to be performing and the audience was equally thrilled to be sharing in the experience. Fantastic all around and such a joy to be a part of it.
Every time I see Kishi Bashi live three things happen: 1. People cry because his musical performances are so raw and beautiful and powerful. 2. Someone around me says this is the best live show I’ve ever seen. 3. He is better than the previous time I’ve seen him. I mean I’ve been to probably 300 various concerts in my lifetime and two of his shoes are in my top ten, one being number one. And he’s not even my favorite artist, not even top five. That’s how good he is.
My husband and I are avid concertgoers and when we saw that not only was Kishi Bashi coming to the area, but he was performing at the Madison Theater -it was a no-brainer! The theater was so accommodating, had lots of restaurants and a beautiful hotel nearby. It made for an amazing night. We knew Kishi Bashi would be an awesome show but he was even better than we expected! Such a great night!
Super fun, great show. I can’t wait to see him again!
Hearing the less poppy songs off of 151a live changes how you'll listen to them in the future.
Kishi Bashi's music is on a wholly other level. Every song's lyrics touch in a very personal way. Poetry and intricate sound and emotion and a little darkness combine, and the result is simply magic. And the encore - I saw many brushing away tears. It was an emotional, primal experience: A man in our midst, performing so simply and honestly.
A friend brought me and I was amazed at the whole night. Kishi Bashi is a great performer!
Such a great experience to see kishi live for the first time
This was a great show, a great, dynamic band and always high energy and high skill.
Kishi Bashi is brilliant, and a nice person to boot. This was the best rock performance I have ever attended. Kishi Bashi has his own style, but I heard hints of everything from Nashville country to soul to disco, and more. Tall Trees complemented his work beautifully. His acoustic encore (performed in the middle of his fans) was great fun.
Incredible artists who are fearless in their mix of sound and lyrics.
Kishi Bashi was hands down one of the greatest performances I've ever seen. a really high energy show and amazing talent. Tall Tall Trees as an opener and performer with Kishi Bashi was also fantastic. Don't miss this show.
He is such a lovable man and so is every member of the band. What an amazing performance, they all have so much wonderful energy.
Intimate setting, great music, good time and Kishi Bashi was so fan friendly. Tall Tall Trees was wonderful too!!
Kishi bashi always puts on an amazing performance. Tall tall trees was amazing too
The Kishi Bashi concert was one of the best I've been to. He sounds exactly like the album and impressed everyone with his many musical talents. It was such a fun concert to be a part of! Can't say enough great things about this show!
It was one of the most amazing concerts I've ever attended. Saw him twice on this tour (including driving 7 hrs to ATL and then in my hometown area near Raleigh). Simply brilliant and so much fun!
We'd seen Kishi Bashi before, but this show was unforgettable! He played the best of his new album and many of his most popular songs from before. They crowd was great - all dancing and singing along, too! <3 A really sweet show.
