KING DIAMOND IN CONCERT:

When it comes to all-out macabre spectacle, few artists can compete with legendary Danish heavy metal icon King Diamond. The revered performer has been honing his diabolical stage persona for four decades, and his highly theatrical live show is the perfect showcase for his incredible falsetto vocals, bludgeoning guitars, and over-the-top showmanship. From his heavily painted black and white makeup to the neon crosses hanging upside-down above the stage, King Diamond's acclaimed tours provide an unforgettable concert experience that fans of full-blown heavy metal extravaganza won't want to miss.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Danish metal legend King Diamond, a.k.a. Kim Bendix Peterson, got his start as a performer in the mid-'70s with the heavy rock outfits Brainstorm and Black Rose. In 1981 he formed the seminal heavy metal group Merciful Fate, which provided a testing ground for the quasi-Satanic persona he had begun developing with his earlier projects. After two acclaimed albums and a world tour the band called it quits, and in 1985 King Diamond launched his solo career with his eponymous band. Their 1986 debut Fatal Portrait cracked the Top 40 in Sweden, enthralling the country's dark metal fans with morbid songs like "Lurking in the Dark" and "Halloween". The band followed up in 1997 with concept album Abigail, which landed on the US Billboard 200 chart and staked the increasingly ambitious, concept-oriented territory they would continue to explore on subsequent releases. With 12 studio albums and nearly as many acclaimed tours under their belt, King Diamond continues to thrill ticket buyers with their no-holds-barred heavy metal mayhem.

@ 63 years of age King still delivers.

by FJK on 12/5/19The Magnolia - El Cajon

Killer live theatrical show. Andy LaRouque has always been criminally passed up in reviews as a guitar player; but that's ok. Judging by the crowd age, size and loyalty King is an off the radar underground artist and continues to this day. No hype or trend changes. Just like Motorhead, staying the course of what he does, a true and gracious showman, thanking his fans endlessly between songs. Long may he record and tour. There will never be anybody quite like him again.

He IS the King of \M/ETAL!

by Black.N.Roll on 12/5/19The Magnolia - El Cajon

This was the most amazing concert one of the very best I have ever seen. The King is in top form, nailing every note, stalking the stage and feeding of Mike Wead and the legendary Andy LaRocque who were both on freakin fire! The whole band is on fire I am sorry I don't know the bass players name or the drummer but they were equally awesome. Kings wife is also more than just up there on stage, she is belting out the high harmonies right off the albums making the Kings arrangements even more powerful live! Please come back to San Diego \m/ \m/

    Excellent

by Duke on 12/5/19The Magnolia - El Cajon

This was my first time seeing "The King" in concert and it was great! Very theatrical and King's voice is still top notch after all these years. My ONLY gripes about the setlist was the absence of any Mercyful Fate-era songs and, being that we are in the holiday season, the setlist didn't include the classic "No Presents For Xmas." Otherwise a very very good show. As for the venue, The Magnolia, it's a very nice venue. It has a standard theater-type setup, so don't expect to do any moshing here. The seats could be a bit more comfy and wider. If you are a little bit more on the "hefty" side, expect to do a lot of shifting in your seat because they are a bit narrow. Parking is free but getting out of the parking garage is a bit of a chore.

King sounds better than ever, the band was in full synchrony, I only wish the set were longer. Opening bands were awesome.

Great show as always, King Diamond never disappoints

by Byron on 12/5/19The Magnolia - El Cajon

The concert venue is too notch. Usually don’t like a place with seats. King Diamond shows are always amazing to see. I’ve been on the railing before but this time I was four rows back which was perfect as I could see the whole stage. With all that goes on theatrically you want to be able to see the whole stage. King’s vocals were amazing as always. Got to meet him and the band and that was awesome as well. I saw him 30 years ago, and of the hundreds of concerts I’ve been to, that show is still the best. The only thing different now in the stage show is the lack of fire. Miss seeing him breathe fire and the amount of pyrotechnics, but these are different times. Will absolutely see him again.

    Long Live The King

    by D. K. on 12/4/19The Wiltern - Los Angeles

Last time I saw King Diamond was in 1993 when he was doing a Mercyful Fate tour. Over 25 years and some serious health problems later, King doesn't show any signs of slowing down. The set was mostly old stuff (Fatal Portrait, Abigail and Them were heavily featured), but he played a track from his forthcoming album and also did some surprise tracks from other albums (Burn, Voodoo). The mix was incredible. King's voice falters occasionally which is normal when doing the kinds of things he does, but he adjust quickly and creates some absolutely stunning moments. As usual, his back-up band is second to none. The legendary Andy LaRoque is a guitarist you have to see to believe and Mike Wead has definitely proven himself a worthy adversary. Watching these two trade off solos is mind numbing. My biggest complaint is the opening acts. Idle Hands is aptly named. Don't even know why they were selected. And while Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats was an improvement musically, I couldn't make out any of the vocals and their "acid trip" inspired backdrop (the kind Pink Floyd pioneered in the 60s) was often so distracting it gave me a headache. But King came on stage and made the night one of the best ever. I hope I get the chance to see him more before he retires.

    The greatest show on Earth

by Tyranticus on 11/30/19Paramount Theatre - Seattle

I got the VIP1 package, so I got to meet the band and hang out with them before the show and share a toast with King. It played a bit of everything from all the way back to Fatal Portrait all the way up to the new disc they are currently recording. The set was awesome, the sound was awesome, King was awesome, the show was awesome... must see!

    No Regrets!

by Serenity Miyazaki on 11/29/19Paramount Theatre - Seattle

Paramount staff were incredibly friendly and professional and helped to ensure a safe environment for patrons and were very helpful and attentive to guests with queries. The show was literally indescribable. Made a few friends and headbanged until I couldn't feel my neck and then some. Openers I had never heard before, but played awesome sets. As a die hard King Diamond fan, you won't be at all disappointed with the set list or line-up one bit. Expect a great time!

    Best in the business

by Psycho P on 11/28/19Paramount Theatre - Seattle

The King is the best opera rock anyone can ever enjoy. After all the years he is still pleasurable to listen to and watch the act. I've been listening to King Diamond for a long time, since 1986 and have loved his style. I saw him in concert awhile back and loved it, was super excited that he had another show and couldn't wait to see him again. I paid the VIP price and enjoyed the show, wished it could go on forever.

    Experience of a lifetime

by DJT STA on 11/28/19Paramount Theatre - Seattle

The decor of the paramount combined with King Diamonds theatrics were better than I expected. Having 2 bars located in the lobby so you can sit and enjoy the music with a beverage made the waiting more relaxing. As for King Diamond I have been listening to him since I was 10 years old. To be able to finally see him play live was a dream come true. His vocal range has not changed, one of the best performances I have been to in awhile.
