About

Kikagaku Moyo on Tour

Psychedelia transcends international borders and airwaves as proven by Kikagaku Moyo -- a five-piece Japanese psychedelic rock band from Tokyo. Literally translating to "geometric patterns," Kikagaku Moyo has been grooving while redefining psych rock for over a decade. Their 2022 Final Tour will commence in the fall of 2022, making 18 stops across North America. In April 2022, the band announced this will be their last tour as they will be going on an indefinite hiatus. A jam band at the core, Kikagaku Moyo includes elements of acid folk, Indian and Krautrock music, leading the band to redefine the eastern psychedelia sound. Focusing on space and psych-infused music, this freeform eclectic group is perfect for those who want to zone and vibe out in a soothing and trance-inducing setting. The band consists of Go Kurosawa on drums and vocals, Tomo Katsurada on guitar and vocals, Kotsuguy on bass, Daoud Popal on guitar, and Ryu Kurosawa on sitar. Kikagaku Moyo released their first self-titled album in 2013 under Cosmic Eye Records, followed by Forest of Lost Children in 2014 under Beyond Beyond is Beyond. Continuing their epic music creation, the band released the EP Mammatus Clouds in 2014; their third album, House In The Tall Grass in 2016 under their newly self-formed record label, Guruguru Brain; the EP Stone Garden in 2017; their fourth album Masana Temples in 2018; and their fifth and final album Kumoyo Island in 2022.

Originally formed in 2012 by Go Kurosawa and Tomo Katsurada, Kikagaku Moyo added Daoud Popal after meeting him at their University. Additionally, they added Kotsuguy while he was recording vending machine sounds for his own project, and Ryu Kurosawa, Go's brother, when he returned from his sitar training in India. The band's name was decided when Go had "geometric pattern" visuals during a long, late-night jam session. Having performed around the world at festivals such as the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, End Of The Road Festival, Green Man Festival, and Concrete & Glass Music Festival, Kikagaku Moyo is a tour-de-force among those wanting to enter the euphoric mind trip that is psychedelic rock.

    Incredible

    by Sam on 2/6/24

I’m a little tardy to writing a review but seeing this band was incredible. Still to this day one of the best if not the best concert I have ever been to. While it is unlikely that they will ever tour again, if they do ever decide to tour again I will absolutely be going to see them and I highly suggest you do too.

    A MARVEL!

by Sal on 10/2/22Moore Theatre - Seattle

This was the most beautiful show I have ever seen. I have had the honor of seeing Kikagaku Moyo twice before, both times brilliant, but this show was beyond words! Their joy rolled off of them the entire time, the way they built their set was masterful, and the way they knit together each of their presence into one big knot of sound, transcendent. I will remember this show until the day they put me in the ground. Thank you Kikagaku Moyo for sharing your music with us mere mortals.

    THEBEST!!!

by BetterDistraction on 9/28/22The Observatory - Santa Ana

I first saw these guys perform in 2021 at the Garden Grove AMP. I instantly fell in love with the music and the overall performance. When I heard that this was their last tour, I was sure to secure my ticket and even thought "I should travel up the coast to see them at all their SOCAL performances". During the show I bought their latest vinyl and held it proudly in the air so the mosh couldn't bend my new record. This band means a whole lot to me and if you didn't get the chance to see them, make sure to stream them. Good vibes, High energy, and a whole lotta love.

    Fantastic show and talent

    by D. J. on 9/27/22

This band was amazing. I started listening to their music at the beginning of this year. I saw they were touring near here, and wanted to check their music. Wow my mind was blown by their talent. I learned some of their history. I'd they they rocked hard. There energy was amazing, and their talent is shined. They were popping out different instruments that aren't used often in such a genre of music. They were casting spells. I recommend seeing this band live more than once. I can't wait to see them again.
