Kentucky Wildcats Men's Basketball History
The University of Kentucky Wildcats have one of the most storied programs in all of men’s college basketball, leading all NCAA Division I basketball teams with the most all-time wins, highest all-time winning percentage and a record for total NCAA Tournament appearances. Kentucky has won an impressive 53 regular-season conference titles and 33 conference tournament championships, in addition to the National Invitation Tournament in 1946 and 1976. The Wildcats have been crowned NCAA Tournament champions eight times between 1948 and 2012.
The University of Kentucky men's basketball team played their first season in 1903, one year after the school’s women's basketball team was founded. Adolph Rupp took over as head coach for the men’s team in 1930, leading the Wildcats to their first four titles in 1948, 1949, 1951 and 1958. Rupp was replaced upon his retirement in 1972 by assistant coach Joe B. Hall, who brought Kentucky their fifth title in 1978. After coaching the NBA’s New York Knicks, Rick Pitino took over in 1989 and captured the 1996 championship before leaving after the next season to coach the Boston Celtics. In 1998, first-year coach Tubby Smith led Kentucky to a seventh championship, though it would take the Wildcats another 13 years to reach another Final Four and 14 years before winning their eighth title under current head coach John Calipari.
Countless legends have suited up for Kentucky, including coaches Pat Riley and Travis Ford, as well as such players as Dan Issel, Louie Dampier, Antoine Walker, Kenny "Sky" Walker, Rajon Rondo and Rex Chapman. Within the past decade, contemporary NBA stars such as Karl-Anthony Towns, Anthony Davis, Devin Booker, DeMarcus Cousins and John Wall have played for the Wildcats. Kentucky has numerous conference and national rivals, but their in-state rivalry with Louisville is the most heated, further stoked by former Wildcats coach Rick Pitino leading the Cardinals from 2001 to 2017.

This event was a great way to preview the upcoming season.
It was awesome to be able to see the UK basketball team scrimmage! It is always great to watch basketball in Rupp Arena. Since it is usually so hard to get tickets, the alert that I have with Tickmaster made this event possible to attend! What a fantastic time!
I am so excited to watch Kentucky woop some butt this year. Sure they have some work to do, but soon you will see, this is the team to beat! Thanks for bringing back the true meaning of Kentucky Basketball!!
Omgosh This year was soo AWSOME! Our boys are gonna rock their opponents this year! I expect great things from them! The dunks the passes and plays...they are great this year!
UK blue white - John Wall and Bledsoe with Patrick Patterson - a great night. Wish I had season tickets this low!!!
I am new to Kentucky, and wanted to see what everyone at work was raving about-well I still don't know, wasn't what I saw. They didn't introduce the players, the coaches, and some honored guy-_____ Taylor, there was no hoopla what so ever. The band was horrible, and the girl that butchered the Star Spangled Banner, I sincerely hope she is not a voice major at UK. I won't waste money on any more tickets.
Scrimmage was a great way to see dynamics of team.
Had a great time. Very exciting and enjoyamle foe any Wildcat fan!!!!
Great event... 15,000 for a practice! Go Cats! Rupp was making some noise.
The Blue/ White Scrimmage was a great opportunity to see Coach Cal's new recruits mesh with the returning players. The intensity of each player was incredible. WOW!!
Rupp Arena was electrified and a sea of blue! The arena was full except for some seats in the upper section on each end where the goals are . It was a very fun-filled evening. I eagerly anticipated seeing John Wall and the other recruits. They showed flashes of brilliance, but they also showed there is still much work to do. Calipari has assembled a very athletic team and by January when SEC conference season starts, they will be a veritable tsunami! I liked the convenience of printing my tickets online. That saved us from having to get to a window and pick up tickets. I wish I could go to all of their games!
GREAT EVENT, GREAT SEATS IN SECTION 31. TOO BAD REGULAR POOR PEOPLE LIKE MYSELF CANNOT ATTEND A REGULAR GAME, NOT EVERY GAME, JUST ONE OR TWO A YEAR WOULD BE GREAT. MY DAUGHTER GRADUATED FROM UK. I LIVED IN KNOXVILLE, TENN FOR OVER THREE YEARS AND WAS ABLE TO CALL THEIR TICKET OFFICE AND THEY WOULD MAIL TICKETS TO MY HOME FOR THE CATS/VOLS GAME. THEY WERE NOT THE BEST OF SEATS BUT I WAS ABLE TO ATTEND A COUPLE OF GAMES WHILE RESIDING THERE.
I thought this event was awesome, i got to spend it with my hubby Timothy Johnson and our niece and nephew, Chad and Jocelyn Newby. A reporter for the Courier Journal...did an interview and it was awesome!!!!! I posted a link..of the video on my facebook page!!!
the game was awesome. we loved the vibe from the fans. we wish the cheerleaders would have been there for more spirit.
I enjoyed the scrimmage but it was really missing the cheerleaders. It was a little more low key than what I was expecting. But tickets were cheaper and it was a great experience for my daughter who had never been to a UK game before.
I loved it. Had the best seats. Got to talk to the players. The best sporting event I've ever attended!
IT WAS ABSOUTLEY THE BEST SEATS I HAVE EVER HAD, AND A GREAT GAME TO WATCH, GO BIG BLUE!!!!!!!!
Wow, these Wildcats are amazing. Patrick Patterson was great last year, but he has taken 3 steps forward and is just unbelievable this year. With the addition of all the great talent coming in for their first year along with the returning players from last year, this is going to be a great year for the Big Blue Faithful. John Calipari is bringing basketball back to Kentucky.
loved it!!!!! can't wait til the season actually starts!!!! GO BIG BLUE!!!! C-A-T-S CATS CATS CATS!!!!
