Kentucky Wildcats Men's Basketball History
The University of Kentucky Wildcats have one of the most storied programs in all of men’s college basketball, leading all NCAA Division I basketball teams with the most all-time wins, highest all-time winning percentage and a record for total NCAA Tournament appearances. Kentucky has won an impressive 53 regular-season conference titles and 33 conference tournament championships, in addition to the National Invitation Tournament in 1946 and 1976. The Wildcats have been crowned NCAA Tournament champions eight times between 1948 and 2012.
The University of Kentucky men's basketball team played their first season in 1903, one year after the school’s women's basketball team was founded. Adolph Rupp took over as head coach for the men’s team in 1930, leading the Wildcats to their first four titles in 1948, 1949, 1951 and 1958. Rupp was replaced upon his retirement in 1972 by assistant coach Joe B. Hall, who brought Kentucky their fifth title in 1978. After coaching the NBA’s New York Knicks, Rick Pitino took over in 1989 and captured the 1996 championship before leaving after the next season to coach the Boston Celtics. In 1998, first-year coach Tubby Smith led Kentucky to a seventh championship, though it would take the Wildcats another 13 years to reach another Final Four and 14 years before winning their eighth title under current head coach John Calipari.
Countless legends have suited up for Kentucky, including coaches Pat Riley and Travis Ford, as well as such players as Dan Issel, Louie Dampier, Antoine Walker, Kenny "Sky" Walker, Rajon Rondo and Rex Chapman. Within the past decade, contemporary NBA stars such as Karl-Anthony Towns, Anthony Davis, Devin Booker, DeMarcus Cousins and John Wall have played for the Wildcats. Kentucky has numerous conference and national rivals, but their in-state rivalry with Louisville is the most heated, further stoked by former Wildcats coach Rick Pitino leading the Cardinals from 2001 to 2017.

The Wildcats play basketball at Rupp Arena, which is located in downtown Lexington, Kentucky but not on the school's campus. It opened in 1976 and currently seats 20,545 people. The seating map for Rupp Arena can be viewed here.
The game was great, the seating in my section was benches. High school gym benches, although i believe the benches in high school may have been more comfortable.
I bought handicap accessible seating, turns out that doesnt mean wheelchair accessible. Luckily, the event staff found a spot for us to view the event. There needs to be a better differential between the two types of seats.
We had a blast! Our tickets were in the bleacher section but perfect for viewing!
UK games at Rupp are always fun and family oriented
Expectations greatly exceeded. Part of my bucket list has been fulfilled.
It was a memorable experience as it was my son's first trip to Rupp Arena. However, it would've been nice to know that the seats we purchased when they first went on sale to the public were not the new chair-back seats that has been installed, but still bleachers. Also, they came with an obstructed view. It kept my son's first Kentucky game in Rupp Arena from being unforgettable.
The game was fantastic. They were great seats. Didn’t have to climb to many stairs.
Horrible seats w/ obstructed view. Not noted by Ticketmaster. Terrible experience.
The game was spectacular and the experience itself was exactly how I thought it would be. BBN is truly electric! Loved the energy in Rupp Arena. My only complaint is they are selling more bench seating than there is space. We were smashed together like sardines and quite miserable the 1st half. The 2nd half people left their seats due to being so uncomfortable which allowed us to spread out a bit. I paid $145 for 2 seats on Ticketmaster. This is way too much cost for the close proximity and misery if the bench is sold out. We literally could not move once we were seated. We were wedged in. They truly need to remove bench seating for the price of the ticket. I felt terrible for the people who left knowing what they paid for their ticket. That shouldnt happen.
Seats were small and crowded. Also needs padding but other than that we had a great time. It wAs out first UK game
Great seats with a decent price! Avid Ticketmasters user.
It easily surpassed any expectations i had. The game, the arena, the fans, the whole experience absolutely amazing.
Exciting game winner! Great Rupp crowd. If you dont want to pay 16.00 for 2 Skyline Chili dogs and a Coke...eat in the Lexington Center or before the game.
It took a couple of times to navigate to purchase the tickets, once I was able to buy no problem.
There were plenty of better seats available the day of the game for the same price that did not show on the seat map selection when I ordered the tickets. I was disappointed about that. Otherwise, it was fun. My daughter and I enjoyed it. I expected more of a performance from the cheerleaders and dance team even though it is not March Madness. They are highly talented, just would have loved to have seen more of a halftime show.
Game day at Rupp Arena is always a great time. The new chair back seats are good for the upper body, with leg room still tight. It took a good long while to get out of the parking lot after the game, but that’s what you get when you have outstanding support for your team. Go Cats!
The seats were better than I imagined! If you have never been to a UK game than you go!
Always fabulous to see the new kids in action, learn their names and see their moves......great seats.....cheap price !! Looking forward to the season.....could go all the way this year !!
It was a good experience but i felt like it could have been better was a little boring
It's always a great time watching the U.K. Wildcats play!
