My Second Row Seat Was Severely Obstructed

by embrek on 7/31/19Town Hall - New York

The venue told me it was not their fault, then the promoter said they did not know the seats were obstructed, so now I am arriving at Ticketmaster. Katya is one of my favorite artists, so I was excited to have a second row end seat. Katya's show consisted of her performing comedy as herself/different characters, but the screen behind her had a lot of content/videos/between scenes transitions that made the jokes funnier. I basically just sat there while everyone else laughed at the jokes I couldn't see on the screen. There were large stacked speakers that obstructed my view, as well as one or two people behind me who ended up leaving the show midway because they couldn't see. It was a really disappointing experience, and definitely not one worth the front row pricing :/

If you love Katya, You'll love her one woman show!

by Aquaflux_ on 7/31/19Town Hall - New York

There are really no words other than talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before, unafraid to reference or not reference, etc. If you have the opportunity to see this or any of her other shows in the future, I think you should take it, Barbara.

    Is that all there is?

by Jay on 7/30/19Town Hall - New York

This was absolutely the best show I have been to and I enjoyed every second of it. Especially the meet and greet, she was beautiful and elegant it made the whole experience that much better. Definitely recommend more shows like this for The Town Hall.

Two thumbs up in my butt.

by Iggie on 7/30/19Town Hall - New York

She lived up to every thing she holds herself to be. A wacky genius. That venue needs better A/C. It’s very nice tho.

    Absurdly Amazing

    by C. C. on 7/30/19Town Hall - New York

Completely off the wall insanity and I loved every minute. A must-see for lovers of Rupaul, drag, & the Russian icon herself.

Review of Help Me, I'm Dying

    by A. F. on 7/30/19Town Hall - New York

I'm a huge fan of Katya and I regularly follow Rupaul's Drag Race, but I couldn't help but feel a bit underwhelmed. I felt like too much of the show relied too heavily on her run from Drag Race-- I had brought a friend who knew little to nothing about drag and was hoping to introduce him to how fun it was. Unfortunately, the frequent RDR references totally went over his head. I was also hoping to see more of Katya's work outside of drag race, and while she did deliver some killer jokes, I wished more of the show was her expanding on her personal idea of drag. It also seemed that her reputation among her fans exceeded the experience of the show itself. Many times I missed lines/jokes because her fans were screaming so loudly and there were no subtitles on the screen. All in all, I'm still a fan of Katya and drag, but if I wanted a show where I saw so little of a drag queen's personality outside their run on RDR, I would just catch a drag show in NYU instead for free.

If there had been an intermission, I was planning to leave.

by Ant S on 7/30/19Town Hall - New York

I was so disappointed. I am a huge Drag Race fan and I have never seen Katya live before. I've always enjoyed her on the show and social media etc. however I don't think I was prepared to see her in a one woman show format. The best word to describe this show is "random". I found myself sitting in the audience with a confused look on my face at most of the humor. I believe there is a very niche audience for this show. She didn't really perform or do any drag numbers, but mostly just told a couple of random, confusing stories. If there had been an intermission, I was planning to leave.

The Sweatiest (and Funniest) Woman in Show Business

by Hana on 7/30/19Town Hall - New York

While it was very strange to see Katya do something so structured instead of going off on a wild tangent, it was thoroughly enjoyable! The audience never stopped laughing!

More of a workshop than a show

by Mr. E on 7/29/19The Wilbur - Boston

First of all, I LOVE Katya. I've worked in professional theater for many years so what I'm saying is only to make this show better. I bought meet and greet tickets along with 2nd row seats. Meet and greet was cool. but sitting in the second row was bad. I could barely hear anything she said because the sound mixing was designed for the middle of the theater space, and I could barely see her because the seats were so close to the elevated stage and our view was blocked by speakers. Not a great experience for the highest paying audience members. Now for the show...it was basically 3 skits and 5 minutes of improv at the end. I've been to a lot of one-person shows and what makes great ones really special is to have a common thread and a story arc. This show didn't have any of that. The skits were clever but it didn't really go anywhere or feel like it was part of a bigger whole. This show has good bones and could benefit from a really solid treatment I love you Katya and will always support you.

Katya is Brilliant and Fabulous. She is THE Drag Queen.

by S. Lawrence on 7/23/19The Wilbur - Boston

I can’t say enough about Katya’s talent. The energy in that little theater was off the charts! The show was so much more than funny. It was raw and real and I loved every second of seeing her preform on stage.
