    Karen Newman Was Terrific!!

by welcomesanta on 12/6/14Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

What a wonderful way to usher in the holidays! This family friendly show offers so much value for the dollar! Karen Newman brings the best local talent to back her up and she sings every song like it was the hit anthem of the show. Her amazing musicianship and showmanship put a smile on my face from her first note until her final bow. I went with some girlfriends and it was so much fun to dress up and be in the glamor of the Fox Theatre with the glamorous Karen Newman! I'm so proud of Detroit for featuring talent like hers. "Karen Newman's Christmas Eve on Woodward Avenue" is not to be missed!

    Great Show Karen!

by CTWit on 12/21/13Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

Performance got better with each song. Hope to get back for next year's concert! Also hope it's at a different venue...seat fiasco really was a bummer. Sure hope it doesn't happen to other Fox concert goers. 2 chairs placed right in front of us after show started. 2 personal friends of Ms. Newman's were escorted to these seats. Our view was completely blocked! Ushers moved us, but the new seats were 20 rows back and farther right than original seats. What an inconvenience! Missed a lot of the show during the show also!

One of the best shows around. These people love the city and the children, and performing for us the viewing audience. Corey's operatic voice is amazing. Just love this show and its a family event.

    WOW!!!...What a Show!!

by DHRECREATION on 12/21/13Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

All I can say is WOW!!!!...Karen put on one great Christmas Holiday Show. Excellent singing, with great musicians highlighted the night. My wife & I sure enjoyed hearing all the "real" Christmas Carols that Karen preformed ie. religious. Karen featured a young and very talented singer by the name of Corey Roberts. Best voice I have heard since Josh Grobin. His rendition of "Believe" brought the house down. And you can't beat the atmosphere of the fabulous Fox Theater. It was one magical night that will be with us throughout the Christmas Season.

Karen is beauty --- First time my girlfriend went to her show, we go again. I loved how she spoke about Detroit and she love for giving back. Bringing in all the other singers, was great! I plan on going to the Fox again next year if she is playing there.

    Xmas Eve with Karen Newman

by BusdriverBill on 12/20/13McMorran Place Sports and Entertainment Center - Port Huron

I have previously only known Karen Newman for her song "Christmas Eve On Woodward Ave." ( Which my wife and I have loved for more than a decade.) But, this show was impressive, She is a great performer. The show featured great vocals and outstanding musicianship. Her band & her back ups were first rate. I was thrilled that the show was explicitly "Christmas" with deliberate religous music. It wasn't simply a cutesy "winter" or "holiday" show. Some of her updated renditions of classic tunes may now be among my all time favorites. ( # "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" ,"Ave Maria"," O Holy Night" & I Heard The Bells") Normally, I am not a fan of drum solos ( they tend to stop the music and seem superfluice) However, "Little Drummer Boy" conatained a drum solo which was germaine, pertinant, and not self-indulgent. It actually made sense, and added to the song.... Drummer... Boy. The show allowed me to introduce Karen Newman to 3 friends who came along and never knnew her at all. They were all impressed.. Karen now has 3 new fans, and one more who more deeply appreciative of her talent and beauty. .

Karen Newman Holiday Show says exactly what it was

by dklender on 12/19/13Andiamo Celebrity Showroom - Warren

It was a wonderful blend of Karen's "Christmasy" tunes with just the right amount of traditional carols. We thoroughly enjoyed the various local talents that she included in the lineup. We are looking forward to attending next year's show and bringing others with us. Didn't find her first two outfits to be "Holiday wear." However, if she actually chose those clothes, then fine. She didn't seem comfortable in the five-inch shoetees.

    Unforgettable Performance

by DazzlerDeb on 12/16/13McMorran Place Sports and Entertainment Center - Port Huron

Karen's concert was amazing! The stage was beautifully decorated for Christmas and the atmosphere was so uplifting. I absolutely loved the spiritual aspect of the concert and it truly put emphasis on the true meaning of Christmas. Karen was herself, which made it even more special, she was one with the audience. All of the singers were fantastic! The band was amazing! This was my first concert and I will definitely go again next year.

    Awesome Christmas show!

    by dishy23 on 12/24/12Fox Theatre - Detroit

This was our first time at the Fox for the Karen Newman Christmas on Woodward Avenue show. We have attended her show the past few years at a different location, but this show at the Fox was so awesome. The beauty of the Fox was just the right ambience for the show. The children were so good and Corey Roberts was so amazing as well as the very talented Sonja Lee. This show certainly puts you in the Christmas spirit. Wonderful job with the Choir and the chance to hear so many talented people. I hope this show continues at the Fox for years to come. We look forward to her show every year!

    Love Karen's voice

by paddyjon on 12/24/12Fox - Detroit

We were looking forward to our night out to see and hear Karen, we think that she has a great voice and we were looking forward to a good Christmas Show. Unfortunately on many of the songs she sang the combination of the background singers, choir, and orchestra simply drowned her out and she couldn't be heard. We came to hear Karen, not jazzed up solos by the band or church revival singing by the choir. When Karen did sing a solo or when the back-up group was actually "back-up" we got our hopes up but were quickly disappointed. When the band played their solos it was hard to tell what they were playing most of the time, it seems they were more interested in showing off "their version" of the music and not the way it was written and intended to be played. I would love to see a show with a small group of back-up for Karen but too often the back-up was much louder than the "star". This was not a good start for our holiday season, in my opinion, not enough Christmas music for a holiday show, we were disappointed. One last thought, Karen's first dress was holiday appropriate, the last two were not, no hint of Christmas at all.

Karen Newman brings spirit of Christmas

by CJAFan on 12/23/12Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

This was our second year attending Christmas on Woodward Avenue and we are hoping to make it an annual event. The spirituality in the presentations was awesome and it was great seeing the children sing. Our seats were about halfway back in the theatre, and we still had to plug our ears when the band was so loud (especially the reverberating drums) that you could not even understand the words to the song of the gospel choir. Corey Roberts was a highlight as was the amazing Sonja Lee on the violin. Thank you Karen Newman for bringing us this great show.

    Bringing it fresh

by nongrinch on 12/22/12Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

Having seen this show before I was pleasantly surprised with the new arrangements. I appreciated hearing the fresh spin on some of my old favorites. This show had a new Gospel feel compliments of the Choir which was featured much more prominently this year. there was also an opportunity for each musician to showcase their individual talents. I thought the most amazing moment was the duet with the young tenor.... corey something. that song brought the house down and left everyone wanting more.

    Great Way To Celebrate Christmas

by SMF56 on 12/22/12Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

What a great show! Great songs, great band, great back up voices and a great venue. All 4 of us loved the show. Karen's performance was the best ever and her back up talent was the perfect choice. We especially appreciated the song selections as having the true message of Christmas with fantastic contemporary arrangements. Well done!

    Karen Newman..."Refreshingly ....Ours" !!!

by CriticKing on 12/22/12Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

Five Stars!!! Karen was again a delight for the holidays. She played to a well deserved full house. We go to many events at the Fox, and Fisher and decided again to see her this year. Her show is definitely a family production and it has improved. As she adds a little more "floor show" to it the demand will even grow greater. It really is a "must see" if you live in Detroit and want to feel what a "Detroit Christmas" is like. Karen continuously relates and refers to her audience which makes one feel welcomed and personal. She "ad-libs" a lot which is wonderful. Even Mr. and Mrs. Clause appeared. Her musical staff is outstanding rivaling any on Broadway. I few more cute "duet" numbers added would really make this show dazzle. The crowd did long for an intermission as many commented that a "bathroom break" was needed. She sang, "Take me to a Place" with a young Detroiter (now in New York) which was incredible ! The costume changes were noteworthy as Ms. Newman's wardrobe was fantastic !!! ....and WOW....what a voice" !!! A simply delightful way to celebrate the Christmas season !!!
