Kantorei's amazing 50th Anniversary Concert
by OldChorister on 6/16/14Coronado Performing Arts Center - RockfordThe setting was great - The Coronado in Rockford, a restored vintage theater full of gilt and dragon decor. The music was even better! The performance choir was up to speed within two songs, enjoying every note they sang, and they sang very well, very clearly and with passion. The very young cadet choir was in the best form I have ever seen them, singing with remarkable power from their little lungs. But the most special part of the evening was when the alumni choir members, some pushing 50 and 60 joined their younger successors. What full sound, full passion, full enjoyment. It was a tribute to their 50 years' experience, and Joel Ross' (the retiring Artistic Director) 25 years of excellence. One downside: the choir was downstage, behind the grand piano, making it difficult to see the front row first riser of the smaller guys.
