About

Kansas in Concert

With a legendary career spanning more than four decades, KANSAS has firmly established itself as one of America's iconic classic rock bands. This "garage band" from Topeka released their debut album in 1974 after being discovered by Wally Gold, who worked for Don Kirshner, and have gone on to sell more than 30 million albums worldwide.

Composing a catalogue that includes fifteen studio albums and five live albums, KANSAS has produced eight gold albums, three sextuple-Platinum albums (Leftoverture, Point of Know Return, Best of KANSAS), one platinum live album (Two for the Show), and two one million-selling gold singles, ‘Carry On Wayward Son' and ‘Dust in the Wind.' KANSAS appeared on the Billboard charts for over 200 weeks throughout the ‘70's and ‘80's and played to sold-out arenas and stadiums throughout North America, Europe and Japan. ‘Carry On Wayward Son' continues to be one of the top five most played songs on classic rock radio, and ‘Dust In the Wind' has been played on the radio more than three million times!

2016 marked the release of "The Prelude Implicit," KANSAS's fifteenth studio album. The wide-ranging progressive rock album was released on InsideOut Music, and marked the band's first studio album release in 16 years.

Throughout 2016-2017, the band celebrated both the release of "The Prelude Implicit" and the anniversary of breakout album "Leftoverture" with the highly successful KANSAS: Leftoverture 40th Anniversary Tour. That tour was released in 2017 as a live album, "Leftoverture Live & Beyond."

The band, which is currently comprised of keyboardist Tom Brislin, original drummer Phil Ehart, bassist/vocalist Billy Greer, vocalist/keyboardist Ronnie Platt, violinist/guitarist David Ragsdale, guitarist Zak Rizvi, and original guitarist Richard Williams. KANSAS continues to perform in front of large and enthusiastic audiences around the world.

Along with constant touring, KANSAS continues to remain a fixture of Classic Rock radio. The band has reached a whole new audience through their unmistakable presence on the popular video games Rock Band and Guitar Hero, and through their songs' inclusion in various television shows such as ‘Supernatural,' and ‘South Park,' and with films ‘Old School,' and ‘Anchorman.'

    Amazing

by Mandy on 5/14/24The Palace Theatre Albany - Albany

One of the best shows I've ever been to! The venue was amazing - great sound and views from every seat. But Kansas - wow! They knocked it out of the park. They still got it. They've been rocking 50 years AND still shredding it on stage like they were teenagers!

Transported my husband and I back to our younger days. Incredible music and continued excellent vocals even though there is only one original band member.

    Incredible

    by dixson66 on 5/5/24Kodak Center - Rochester

May 2nd show Rochester, NY. This show was a reschedule from a show that was postponed a year ago. It was well worth the wait. The musicianship and sound of this show was incredible. I’m not really surprised having seen 20 plus Kansas shows over the years. But before this show it seemed like we were being set up for a disappointment. As said, the concert was postponed for a year. Then a couple of months ago leading up the concert there was bad news after bad news. Number one Phil had a major heart attack (many prayers said for you brother). We knew he would be out indefinitely. Since the band only had 2 remaining original members for years, it started to feel like this was just turning into a tribute band. Who was going to be able to play Phil’s style of drumming? This man is the soul of Kansas. Then I had read somewhere that Rich was going to be out for a few shows as well as longtime bassist Billy Greer. Zack was going to be there filling in for Rich was great news. His shredding highlights the hard rock sound for the band and is more than capable of guitar duties. Then
What? No original members?! Well once we got to the show Rich was there. That was a surprising relief. I don’t know if the reports were false or something changed but it was great seeing Rich there. So they have Rich, ok great. Now what about this drummer and bassist? At first I was thinking ok guys, impress me. It didn’t take long for them to squash that thought. I knew there was no way Phil would grab a couple of guys off the street with no pedigree and say ‘here’s the songs, learn them’ and then throw them on stage. These guys are great musicians that fit right in. After the anxiety relief, now
‘all right! Sit back and enjoy the show!’ That I did. The sound was better than ever and that’s saying something with so many times I’ve seen them since 1980. QThe set list was almost to perfection for me. I really would have liked to see a personal favorite of mine, Journey From Mariabronn, make the 50th Anniversary tour. Maybe it did and just not for this show. I could name a few others but they can’t play ‘em all. That had to be the only thing negative about the show after feeling a little negative going into it. They really made up for it though with ‘The Pinnacle’ being the highlight of the show for me. Blown Away! I’ve never seen that one performed before as well as ‘A Glimpse of Home’ a song that my best friend and I (13 years old in ‘79) had been calling, bugging local radio guys play it but to no avail. It brought back memories I’ll always cherish. It also was a great memory made with my three grown sons there with me to cheer the band. They loved it! You know why? They know music. They’ve all played instruments. That was music! Music that is one of a kind. Sound that was incredible and a show that DID NOT disappoint!

    My 3rd time seeing Kansas

by Fast Eddie 14616 on 5/5/24Kodak Center - Rochester

I saw Kansas in 1978, 1995 and 2024. I saw just about all the big bands of the 70's and 80's. I always thought both previous times were among the very best Fidelity, sound wise as any band I'd ever seen. This version is excellent. They're all virtuoso's but frankly they're a high end cover band. Rich Williams has amazing tone, especially when he pays the Les Paul. He seemed to struggle a little, especially towards the end of the night. Alas with only one original member left it seemed empty. That said, the keyboard player and violin player (who's names I don't know) were excellent, top notch hired guns. Unfortunately hired guns none the less. 50 years is long enough.

Ronnie Platt is very energetic and his voice is amazing! OG Rich Williams was phenomenal and all the band members were incredibly talented and energetic! Thank you Kansas for bringing me back to my favorite time in my life with your AMAZING music and energetic performance.

    Tribute of sorts

by Scott K on 4/16/24Genesee Theatre - Waukegan

After seeing the original members starting with Audio Visions these guys did a good job. Rich Williams was great. Phil Ehart had a health issue and his replacement was very good. The big plus and best part of the show was Song for America

    Hardly Kansas

by PP on 4/16/24Genesee Theatre - Waukegan

Great performance but it's hardly Kansas with only one actual member. Real band pricing for a coverband is shameful.
