Kali Uchis in Concert
On stage, Kali Uchis brims with the sultriness of a vintage pinup and channels a sullen soulfulness in the same vein as Little Ann. These qualities have caught the attention of Lana Del Rey, with whom the Los Angeles-based singer toured extensively in 2017, just months before releasing her star-studded 2018 LP debut, Isolation.
Influenced by the sounds and styles of 1960s-era soul, R&B, and doo-wop, Kali Uchis' languid glamour and jazzy mystique instantly captivate. She often performs with a crew of backup female singers and dancers that evoke the golden days of Motown — à la Diana Ross & the Supremes and The Marvelettes — but with a provocative R&B flair. Kali Uchis kicks off her 2019 tour in April along with British pop crooner Jorja Smith.
Kali Uchis Background
Born Karly-Marina Loaiza in 1994 to Colombian parents, Kali Uchis was raised between Pereira, Colombia, and the suburbs of Virginia. She learned to play the piano and saxophone at a young age, and by high school she'd joined jazz band.
The aspiring star often ditched class to work on her creative endeavors and began stitching up what would be her first release — 2012's Drunken Babble — as Kali Uchis, a moniker her father gave her. Her sizzling approach to soul music with hip-hop flair captured Snoop Dogg's attention, and the two collaborated on his track "The Edge" off his 2014 mixtape release.
In 2015, Kali Uchis released her EP Por Vida, a sultry, bilingual affair that featured production work from the likes of Diplo and Tyler, the Creator. "Sycamore Tree" was featured in Season 6 of the TV show American Horror Story. With 2018's Isolation, Kali Uchis achieved wider appeal, thanks to collabs from stars like Bootsy Collins, Reykon, and Steve Lacy. Along the way, the Colombian artist earned a Latin Grammy nomination in 2017 for Record of the Year for her collaboration with Juanes on "El Ratico."
Kali seems so passionate while performing, she’s always dancing and hyping her crowd up. Definitely would go see her again.
Kali's performance was great from beginning to end and also appreciated that she brought Gabriel on tour with her whom I had never heard of before
Kali was amazing, we were all packed like sardines in the venue but it was worth it. Kali puts on a great preformance and the vibes of the crowd were great.
Kali uchis put on an amazing performance as expected.
She did amazing at the concert. She’s super underrated.
Kali’s vocals and overall stage presence really puts you in a trance. You can’t help but want to dance along with her!!
Kali Uchis was great! I thoroughly enjoyed myself!
Kali was one of the most amazing concerts I’ve ever been to. I saw her open for Lana back in January and was star struck. Her performances leave you speechless and her songs leave you wanting to hear them again.
Watching Kali Uchis perform at Cleveland's House of Blues was an incredibly treat. The venue was the perfect size, everything sounded amazing, and Kali Uchis is a complete Goddess. What an enjoyable evening!
I love the place where she plays ! Also the sound was good , and the band too I love it
The crowd wasn’t hype, no one was dancing or knew the words. People were just there to drink. But Kali was magical
It was pretty amazing, I got amazing pictures, and felt so close to Kali.
what a great live performance by kali uchis!! for me the highlights were when she sang "Tyrant" & "After The Storm", and it was cool to meet her after the show backstage at the Fox Theater, she was very nice.
The fox theater is beautiful with all of its ornate decorations. I usually go to really tiny venues so I forgot that at ones like fox they have actual security and metal detectors. But it's not too big so even standing all the way in the back of the gen adm section it doesnt feel huge. I liked that the show was just Kali by herself because the opening acts always take forever, but by the end of it my legs weren't falling off from waiting too long. Kali is such a character, her song choice was awesome especially when she included oldies that I never thought I'd hear current artists perform onstage like "Angel Baby" and "Sabor a Mi". Hope she comes around again cuz I enjoyed it so much. Parking was easier to find than any shows I've gone to in Berkeley or SF.
This show was great! Kali Uchis is one of a kind and it was a wonderful performance. A great dancer, sultry and seductive, she makes the crowd want to move with her. The venue was perfect and has that old time decor with the low lighting and it just had that intimate feel.
Kali Uchis is gorgeous and amazing! She took forever to actually go on stage but her performance was awesome.
First time seeing Kali perform & I had such a great night! So unforgettable ! It was first come first serve but I had the best seats! Cant wait to see here again !
ONE OF THE GREATEST SHOWS IVE EVER BEEN TO!!! Although she mention she was sick she still put on a hell of a performance. The venue was very intimate and personal, great show and great audience !
Not much to say but that it was amazing even after the fact that she was sick (possibly a sore throat) still had an amazing voice. I would recommend checking out her music & stuff!!
