Saint Mx Justin Vivian Bond was GRAND

by Bofield on 4/8/11Bowery Ballroom - NEW YORK

Mx. Bond's performance was an astounding presentation of both original and interpreted music that transported the myself and the audience into her realm of mystical faerie vision and fun! The Saint, Mx. Justin Vivian Bond, carried on as if she were sitting down with us and riffing on various cultural, spiritual, social and political themes. Her tonal quality crawled and lept across the space and danced in front of my face, leaving me with nothing but emotions and passion for her interpretation and poetic presence. Her engaging dialogue between numbers engaged myself and others to the point of, again, sitting down and having cuppa with hundreds of friends...it was a "be-in" with Mx. Bond functioning as the ringleader and hostexx

Justin Vivian Bond is a Goddess!!!!!

by crabbycrabtree on 4/7/11Bowery Ballroom - NEW YORK

Known for the between song patter as much as the songs themselves, V put on an incredible 2 hour extravaganza showcasing the new CD "Dendrophile". Over the years V has become an astute, provocative songwriter. Much like Tom Waits, each 3 - 5 minute song is a mini-play and roller-coaster ride of emotions. All you can do is strap yourself in and hang on for dear life as s/he takes you across musical genres. From the jazz-infused Crowley A La Lee to the s---kicking country homage Equipoise and lots in-between, Mx Justin Vivian Bond has lots to say. Ably backed by CD producer Tom Bartlett on piano and an ensemble of guitar, bass, drums and reed instruments the group easily reflected the various moods of Mx. Bond's songs. And how that girl manages to dance, stomp and generally carry on for two hours in those Christiane Laboutine spikes is a miracle in itself.
