About

Julien Lacroix on Tour

Though he hails from the Montreal suburb of Longueuil and has become one of Quebec's most prolific humorists, Julien Lacroix's big break came far away from home. In 2013, he set out for Belgium to participate in the Mondial d'improvisation — a roving international Francophone improv competition — and emerged victorious.

Upon returning home, he channeled his creative energies and irreverent spirit into a series of absurdist videos posted to his Facebook page — like "La routine matinale de Julien Lacroix," a mock day-in-the-life documentary where we see the comic casually roll out of bed, put on women's stockings, literally tumble down the stairs, and prepare a meal of chopped unpeeled bananas and dry ramen noodles.

Other clips took the form of faux rants ("Intimidation"), dramatized customer-service calls ("Julien téléphone chez Apple"), prime-time hospital drama parodies ("Evanescense - teaser 57"), and literal toilet humour ("La date de merde"). The videos' viral success would lead to Lacroix becoming a regular guest on Mike Ward's live talk show on Teletoon and a correspondent on the news satire series ‘ALT,' where he was thrust into fish-out-of-water scenarios like joining the army and trying to survive in a forest.

In 2017, Lacroix would take home three awards — including Discovery of the Year — at Galas Les Olivier, the annual ceremony honoring the finest achievements in Quebecois comedy. But while much of his success has come on-screen, Lacroix's heart belongs to the stage.

Since debuting an hour-long act at Montreal's Zoofest in 2016, Lacroix has been working towards the creation of his first proper one-man show, ‘jusqu'ici tout va bien' ("so far everything is fine"). Set to debut in January 2019, the autobiographical performance will, in his words, delve into topics like "my brother who suffered a head trauma, the time I worked at Dunkin Donuts, and my Moroccan father who always calls me ‘bastard'!"
