JULIAN LAGE IN CONCERT:
Jazz guitarist Julian Lage began wowing crowds at the tender age of six, and he was already a master bandleader by the time he made his solo debut at age 21 with 2009's acclaimed Sounding Point. As his skill has continued to grow, he's floored countless audiences with the fluid melodies, dizzying runs, and gorgeous harmonies of originals like "Relaxin'" and reimagined standards like "Nocturne." His prowess across the neck allows him to seamlessly weave his backing parts and melodies together, all while his skilled rhythm section colors his brilliant fretwork with cymbal splashes and bass walks. Julian Lage loves to share his gift with ticket buyers, and his stunning six string finesse always puts a smile on everyone's face – including his own.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Julian Lage became fascinated with the guitar at the age of four after watching his father take lessons in their native Santa Rosa, CA. His parents gave him his first ax for his fifth birthday, and his father demonstrated a few basic scales to get him started. A year later he was performing in public and invited to sit in with the likes of Carlos Santana, Pat Metheny, and Martin Taylor among others. He grew from prodigy to virtuoso at the Berklee College of Music – the most prestigious music college in the US – before graduating in 2008. He made his debut as a band leader the following year with the album Sounding Point, which earned a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Jazz Album. He spent the next few years touring and recording with contemporaries like Nels Cline, Chris Eldridge, and Fred Hersch. Lage premiered a new trio featuring Scott Colley (bass) and Kenny Wollesen (drums) on his 2016 album Arclight, which again dazzled listeners and critics alike. Julian Lage continues to impress fans with his impeccably polished albums and sublime live performances, which are a joy for audience and performer alike.
Great show--no more needs to be said. A must-see Julian live!
Julian Lage is the extraordinary musician who understands that a concert is also meant to entertain. Like Yo Yo Ma, he wears his love of the music on his sleeve and shares it with his band and the audience. Simply magical.
Amazing show...seeing Julian Lage in a trio setting in a small venue. To be so close and see such skilled musicians was just awe inspiring. Great, intimate venue with excellent sound.
An amazing guitar player with a world class drummer and bassist. The HighNoon Saloon is a wonderful intimate venue to see someone of this caliber play. Such and enjoyable evening.
Saw Julian and his trio in Madison, WI. Incredible musicianship and improvisation. One of the best living jazz musicians. Would not miss if you have the chance to see his trio in person.
Julian Lage Trio really killed it. They were on point and sound was mixed well. Fun and engaging. Venue was teeny tiny. Good and bad.
Exceeded expectations. What an amazing group of musicians! Nothing better than seeing and hearing Julian live!
Took my 14yo guitarist to the masterclass and show. Julian was an amazing teacher and inspiration. And the show was perfect. I loved having no opening act! Just get right to it!
Julian is my favorite guitar player and his playing is absolutely spectacular. Can not wait for him to come back to LA. Will definitely be seeing him live again!
Julian Lage, Chris Eldridge, and Aoifa O'Donoval are world-class musicians. Great concert. Aoifa opened the first set solo, then they did a few trios. Julian and Chris played duo most of the second set, with Aoifa joining them near the end. It was amazing. The next generation of music is in good hands with these folks.
Great venue with excellent acoustics for a true virtuoso. I will definitely recommend The Music Hall Café.
Lage played amazing new compositions, engaged with the audience, and was very inspiring.
