Julian Casablancas Doesn't Disappoint
by Anonymous on 1/11/10Trocadero - PhiladelphiaThe show opened with Tanlines, who were very good. Sort of new wave-y but much better. Not quite like anything I have heard before, much less seen performed live. I really enjoyed them, and got to meet them afterwards. Julian was incredible. I was sort of skeptical as to if the band could recreate the produced sound of Phrazes for the Young, but it turned out awesome. Julian was charismatic and funny; he interacted with the crowd a lot, we all had a great time. He played almost all of Phrazes for the Young, along with a Strokes cover, which was awesome (He didn't try to recreate it like the Strokes would have played it, instead he played a much slower arrangement of "You Only Live Once" with just him and a keyboard. The whole crowd sang along, it was awesome), and he also covered "Velvet Snow" by Kings of Leon (probably my all-time favorite band) so, needless to say, I loved the show. Great for fans of his solo work and fans of the Strokes. An awesome show, regardless.
