    Julian Casablancas Doesn't Disappoint

by Anonymous on 1/11/10Trocadero - Philadelphia

The show opened with Tanlines, who were very good. Sort of new wave-y but much better. Not quite like anything I have heard before, much less seen performed live. I really enjoyed them, and got to meet them afterwards. Julian was incredible. I was sort of skeptical as to if the band could recreate the produced sound of Phrazes for the Young, but it turned out awesome. Julian was charismatic and funny; he interacted with the crowd a lot, we all had a great time. He played almost all of Phrazes for the Young, along with a Strokes cover, which was awesome (He didn't try to recreate it like the Strokes would have played it, instead he played a much slower arrangement of "You Only Live Once" with just him and a keyboard. The whole crowd sang along, it was awesome), and he also covered "Velvet Snow" by Kings of Leon (probably my all-time favorite band) so, needless to say, I loved the show. Great for fans of his solo work and fans of the Strokes. An awesome show, regardless.

Tan Lines put on a great show, and of course, Julian Casablancas was amazing. What a great way to start off the new year!!

Short and sweet, but VERY short. That's Casablancas for you, though.

Average Performance from this Solo Project

by Diganaslate on 1/11/10Trocadero - Philadelphia

On the whole Phrases for the Young is a decent album, but the live performance didn't translate as well as I would have hoped. The levels were off and you could hardly hear Julian's voice through the majority of the show. He played one Strokes cover, which was expected given the fact that they dont have that much material, but also a cover by Kings of Leon??? Not sure why, but the rendition was just plain bad, I also can't stand Kings of Leon, so that didn't help. The high point of the show was when Julian climbed onto the balcony of the Troc. I would have much rather had the highlight be a perfect song off the album, but all of the efforts fell short. Overall I give it a C-, if he came back again i wouldn't waste my time.

    Julian concert

by Supertonicman on 12/5/09Palace Theatre - Los Angeles

Quite an awesome concert and a retro theater for the location. So cool hearing his music live. Can't wait till the next time I see him.

    Julian Casablancas.....salvaged by Crown Royal

by Maystrik on 11/30/09The Regency Ballroom - San Francisco

The main problem I had with the show was that I went wanting to hear a strokes show. The genre is similar, feel good alternative with a grungy poppy sound, but I wanted to hear old Strokes hits. The ballroom was sick, great atmosphere, good folks, secure, however, the acoustics absolutely sucked. I was disappointed when I could not hear Julian, because the band was friggin deafening. Thankfully, I was so hammered from drinking Crown Royal all night it was enjoyable.... Bring back the Strokes!!!

Fantastic performance. You don't see showmanship like that anymore. The price is well worth it.

Casablancas puts on a great show

by MattK on 11/29/09Palace Theatre - Los Angeles

The venue, the new songs and Casablancas was great. The old Palace theatre gave an awesome atmosphere for the songs that Casablancas delivered very well. His backing band were tremendously pro. I only wished the vocals weren't so low in the sound mix. Overall the show was fantastic.

Julian couldn't be heard over the instrumentals.

by Dockvox on 11/28/09Palace Theatre - Los Angeles

Overall thought the show was great but the venue lacked. The sound was decent but no vocals could be heard most of the evening and the bass was so loud that the second percussion and guitars were drowned out. Not at any fault to Julian and the band I'm sure. Side note, Hyam opened and rocked...also very hot!

The sound quality on the balcony was awful. I liked the show but if I was on the floor I probably would have enjoyed the much more.

    Julian Casablancas is gold.

by Anonymous on 11/27/09Showbox at the Market - Seattle

He was amazing. If I had more words to say, I would, but there are just no words to describe this guy's stage presence, performance, attitude, music, talent, I could go on--but as I said, I have no other words to say. Best concert of the year. HANDS DOWN. JC, you rule.

Sound was terrible and garbled, ruined what could have been a great show. Want my money and time back.
