About

Josh Groban is an American crossover vocalist and songwriter covering classical, contemporary and pop styles. Josh enjoyed tremendous chart and critical success almost from the very start of his career with numerous gold- and platinum-selling records and worldwide tours in the 10-plus years he has been on the world stage. Blessed with a highly versatile voice that can range from upper baritone into the tenor range, Josh's unquestionably impressive vocals has made him one of the most popular crossover classical singers of the last 20 years.

He was born in 1981 in Los Angeles and attended Los Angeles County High School for the Arts before being offered a place at prestigious Carnegie Mellon University. While studying he was introduced to award-winning music producer David Foster, who invited the talented singer to work with him. After a number of stand-in roles, he impressed everyone he worked with and was signed to Warner Brothers and soon found himself on tour with Sarah Brightman. He featured on her DVD La Luna and quickly found himself in high demand. With the vocal ability to sing the classics as well as more contemporary and pop-styled songs, he was able to work with people like Elton John, Charlotte Church and Stevie Wonder, further stretching his talents and range.

By 2002 his self-titled debut album had gone double-platinum and he was appearing at events like the Nobel Peace Prize Concert and the Vatican Christmas Performance, alongside artists such as Sting, Celine Dion and Ronan Keating. His 2006 song “You Raise Me Up” won Josh his first Grammy nomination for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance and his third album, Awake, went double-platinum in both the USA and Canada. In 2007 Josh took part in a tour that brought him to 71 different cities around the world, truly establishing him as a worldwide vocal star.

His 2010 album Illuminations was another big hit and contained 11 songs written by Josh himself. It reached number four on the US Billboard chart and once again sold more than million copies in the USA. His 2013 album All That Echoes jumped straight into the Billboard Chart at No. 1. Josh has made a number of live appearances in front of huge crowds, such as his live TV special on PBS, the NFL Super Bowl and performing at the Concert For Diana at Wembley Stadium.

    A Perfect Evening

by DLA13 on 11/20/10Town Hall - New York

I don't know just where to begin this review, but I can start with my daughter and I standing in line outside of the Town Hall Theater on the evening of November 18th. I was impressed with the behavior of the people all around us, which was a nice way to start the evening. After we were able to go into the theater, we were shown to our seats by a pleasant young man and, we had a chance to look around. The theater is a small venue, immaculately clean and perfectly decorated. It has a very warm and welcome aura and makes one feel very much at home. What can I say about Josh Groban? I've watched him go from talented teen-ager to Ultimate entertainer. We can listen to all of his music on our CDs, and say he sounds great, but to hear him live is right down breathtaking. He is not only a great musician and vocalist, but he's warm and kind and incredibly funny. Thursday evening could have gone on and on and I would have enjoyed it for even longer than the two hours that Josh was on stage. When the show was over, the croud exited as nicely as they had entered. It really was a perfect evening, and we were honored to be able to be there!

    Josh was awesome!

by SuzanneR on 11/20/10Town Hall - New York

Those golden pipes were in peak form at at this very casual performance. It was laid-back, he was chatty with the audience and solicited songs to play based on what the audience wanted to hear. It was incredible to experience that great voice with only a few instruments (no orchestra) - he really shined! While Town Hall is a nice venue with good sound and sight lines, the security officers were a hop in the rear! They tried so hard to keep people from taking pictrues that they were more disruptive than any fan with a camera could have been.

    Oh What A Night!

by ahnrah on 11/20/10Town Hall - New York

Josh started about a 1/2 hour late and ended about 10pm...the evening ended way too early...I could of listened to him sing and talk all night. This was my first time seing Josh Groban perform and it wont be the last. The stage set up was very intimate with only himself and two other instrumentalists. Throughout the night Josh performed as well opened up questions to the audience. Some of the audience members were a little boisterous to say the least and they got a little nervy with their flash photography, which wasn't allowed, but the overall evening was enjoyable due to Josh Groban's amazing stage presence and personality.

Josh was at his best in NYC

by ArleneNY on 11/20/10Town Hall - New York

This small venue with only 3 musicians was perfect for Josh to showcase his songwriting and his powerful voice. He really poured his heart and soul into the songs on his new CD: ILLUMINATIONS. He had a great time on Thursday night and so did we. The accoustics and sound system were well-adapted to his pure, clear voice....My thanks to the engineers! I brought my 12 year old granddaughter and she totally enjoyed Josh. At the end she said, "Wow, that was amazing!"

Josh was awesome!!! He is the best singer around. Love this type of venue. I felt better connected to him. I've seen him four times before and I think this is the best, since the place is small.

6th Time Seeing Josh in Concert

by jwgfan on 11/20/10Town Hall - New York

This show was supposed to be a "Preview" of the "Big Show", or tour, which should follow soon. I liked the intimacy of the theater. I did not realize, however, that the entire band would not be present, and that only certain songs would be able to be sung. I did not like the constant yelling out from people in the audience. I have seen Josh several times, and he is my favorite musician, but I was not happy listening to people yelling things out, bringing things up on stage, or going up on stage to sing with him, as I feel it took away from the show. I realize it may have been a thrill for those involved, but to the others in the audience, I went there to listen to Josh Groban perform. A little less talking and comedy would have been nice. I believe he sang approximately fifteen songs. Some were from the new album "Illusions", while others were from his other albums. I could have done without "Vincent", and the Neil Diamond song, and would rather have heard Josh sing some of his own music, but perhaps people were happy with music they recognized. Josh Groban is highly talented and appears quite intelligent. He gave the audience a "taste" of what to expect when he performs in a larger venue. I truly missed Lucia Micarelli, his violinist, and a drummer being present, as that only meant that songs needing those instruments were unable to be performed. It was small, intimate, and all and all an "okay" experience for me. I have been to other shows where I have enjoyed his performance much more. i.e. Jones Beach, Nassau Coliseum, Radio City Music Hall. All is all, I will go and see Josh when he performs live in a larger venue, with a full band, but it was not one of my better concerts that I have been to. Still love him, though....

    AMAZING!

by ASchilling23 on 11/17/10Balboa Theatre - San Diego

This was one if not the best shows I have ever been to. It was a much more intimate show and I felt he was able to connect with his biggest fans through this small tour. Not only was the music amazing, but Josh was also extremely funny and entertaining. It was nice to have him answer questions and interact with the audience. This is how every artist should start their tour!

    Josh is an amazing talent

by Neetsy43 on 11/15/10Balboa Theatre - San Diego

My husband and I saw Josh's 2004 concert at the Honda Center. We think he is the most talented performer to appear on the world scene ever. Yes, that's what I said; being a long-time Elvis/Michael Jackson/Andre B. fan I never thought I'd say this. Josh's music, of course, is on a different level, but my ears tell me that he is the best and we wait patiently for him to create new material. Then we discover at the Balboa Theatre that he is also quite humerous and entertaining in that regard. We look forward to seeing and hearing him perform in the future. We also hope that he will do the smaller venues, such as we attended recently at the Balboa Theatre. Juanita and Michael O'Connor

    Groban was BRILLIANT!

by Scrabblemstrsp on 11/12/10Balboa Theatre - San Diego

Seeing JG in a small venue was extraordinary! His rich and powerful vocal performance set me on the edge of my seat (covered with goosebumps). He was personable, enjoyable, extremely witty, dynamic and fun! I traveled almost 3,000 miles to be there and he didn't disappoint (although I would have peed myself if I had gotten an autograph!). I was delighted to have been able to attend this event at the historic Balboa Theater.

    Up Close and Personal!

by kcjoshfan on 11/12/10Balboa Theatre - San Diego

The atmosphere was like none other of his events. Casual and personal with lots of audience interaction and participation. Josh bantered a lot with the audience and seemed to just talk about whatever came to mind as well as answering audience questions. It was refreshing and super funny. Since he had no orchestra, his voice sounded more raw and pure and was in brilliant condition. The night was just a blast and the music was the best!

    Josh Groban was amazing

by MAF1 on 11/10/10Balboa Theatre - San Diego

From the opening curtain of a livingroom set w/Josh, his dog, guitarist and pianist sitting on couches and chairs, it really set an unusual and intimate concert experience. Josh interspersed funny banter with magnificently beautiful songs. He took questions from the audience and even invited audience members onto the stage to sit on the couches. He played host and poured wine for them. All the while, just stunning the audience with his powerful new music, singing and playing piano. I would go back to a Josh Groban concert in a heartbeat. I can't wait for the tour to start.

    Josh is amazingly talented!

by 10s4JG on 11/9/10Balboa Theatre - San Diego

A wonderfully intimate setting! Compared to the mega arenas that I've seen him in before. He was spontaneous, funny, and of course sang with that glorious voice that melts the masses! It was so different in that it was like watching a sit-com, a stand-up comic, and an outstanding musician/vocalist all rolled up into one FUN evening!

    Josh Groban Before We Begin

by Simka on 11/9/10Balboa Theatre - San Diego

I cannot be objective about this. I have been a fan of Josh Groban's for many years, and as long as he is in the same room (however big or small) with me, I am a very happy camper. That said, this concert was wonderful. Josh has a wonderful rapport with his audience, and although I love his singing, and I came to this concert to hear his singing, if he had never sung a note I would have considered it well worth the money I spent for the tickets. My seats were seventh row, dead center, and couldn't have been better. Josh was warm and loving and included us all in everything he did. I loved everything about this small, intimate concert experience with him.

    Josh Groban is awesome!!!

by figgybelle on 11/9/10Balboa Theatre - San Diego

Josh Groban is an AMAZING singer. I feel so lucky to have gotten tickets to this event, that I will surely never forget. The event was at the Balboa Theater in downtown San Diego. This theater is so beautiful and they could not have picked a better place to give this very personal and intimate concert. Josh had only a couple of musicians with him. They played a great set, but it wasn't a set list since he was taking suggestions from the audience as to what we wanted to hear him sing. And boy oh boy can he sing!!!! Truely amazing. He also took time to speak from the heart to us so as to get to know him better. He is a very funny person, because I was in tears from laughter. It was almost like two shows in one -- a concert and a stand up routine. I had a blast and I cannot wait until he hopfully returns in concert. LOVED IT!!!!!!!
