About

José Luis Perales on Tour

This romantic, good-natured Spanish singer-songwriter has captivated audiences for over four decades. And he doesn't do it through spectacular light shows or rafts of dancers — though his sets can be breathtakingly gorgeous while the stage teems with a full band. Rather, he lives or dies on the strength of his songs. And with over 450 songs credited to his name, he has a lot of material to draw on. Beloved in Spain and across Latin America, Perales has performed throughout Latin and Central America, in addition to Europe. 2020 sees him undertake a mammoth farewell tour, Baladas Para Una Despedida ("Ballads for a Farewell") beginning at the southern end of Latin America and wrapping up in the land where it all began: Spain.

José Luis Perales in Concert

José Luis Perales never sought fame. Born to a humble family in the remote town of Castejón, Spain, Perales was the third of four siblings, and the only boy. Introverted by nature, he showed an early love for music, and was playing the lute by age 6. At 13 he went away to study electrical engineering and picked up the guitar. He composed his first song, "Niebla," at 16, and while the change wasn't instantaneous — he finished his degree and got a job in his field — that first song unleashed a torrent of others. The songs were piling up, and eventually a record label showed interest. But he had little desire to perform them himself, primarily because of the effect he feared it would have on him and his family. Other artists began recording his work, and only after his composition "Porque te vas" became a megahit in the hands of the British-Spanish singer Jeanette did he relent. His first hit as a singer was "Celos de mi guitarra." He continued to compose for other singers, however, offering tracks to notables including Isabel Pantoja, Miguel Bosé, Julio Iglesias, Paloma San Basilio and La Oreja de Van Gogh. After a nearly five-decade career, Perales maintains a home — "the refuge" — in his native town, and sculpts, gardens and writes novels when he's not releasing another thoughtful, heartfelt album.

    Absolutely lovely!

    by Miriam on 4/10/22

I joined my mom at his show in San Jose as someone who hadn’t heard much of Jose Luis Perales’ music and left happily calling myself a new fan of his! His voice is absolutely superb after decades of singing and his musicians are top notch. My mom had the best time ever and we’ll miss being able to see him in concert again.

Seeing Jose Luis Perales in concert for his last tour was a true honor. I grew up listening to his music because my mom is a huge fan, and seeing her tears of joy at the concert was a priceless experience.

    Great time was had!!

by Juan on 4/9/22Warner Theatre - Washington

Got there a little late at around 8:25pm and he had already started. The crowd was already singing along to his songs. He has plenty of hits to choose from so that made it easy. He sang for about two hours. Loved it!! If this wasn't his last tour I would definitely see him again!

    Could be better

by Yo on 4/6/22Ritz Theatre - Elizabeth

The Beautiful Ritz was packed full. Not enough AC it was Hot no Air, not good specially during Covid. I was one of the few wearing Mask it should have been required. The spot lights behind the musicians made it painfull to look at the Stage from up where I was. They should be on the sides. Perales was amazing..

    Jose Luis Perales

    by S. L. on 4/6/22Ritz Theatre - Elizabeth

The concert was wonderful and Jose Luis sang GREAT! He still sings as wonderful as he does in his CD's!! I would definitely go see him again :) The venue was a slight problem. There was no parking and when we got inside the seats were REALLY close together. The ushers also didn't really know what they were doing, so they sat people in the wrong seats. This caused disruptions during the concert which was annoying.

    Artist wonderful, location terrible

by Reina on 11/4/21James L Knight Center - Miami

Three 75 year old ladies bought the ticket in row 216 N. It took us 2 and a half hours to get there, therefore we missed the first half an hour of the show. When we finally entered, we realized there were no ELEVATORS. We started climbing up but only made it to the first level. We watched the show standing until sat down in 3 empty seats that we saw until the owners would arrive. Question: Is this a way to treat 3 older ladies who paid over 250 $ ? So, complain number one: Terrible access, traffic unbearable. Number two: How in the world can you have a theater without elevators and not letting the public know??????
