About

JOHNYY HALLYDAY IN CONCERT:

More than five decades after his debut, legendary French rocker Johnny Hallyday remains a consummate showman, living up to his reputation as France's Elvis Presley with consistently bold performances around the world. Hallyday's love for the stage is all-encompassing – despite a 2009 farewell tour, he hasn't been able to resist his adoring fans, resurfacing intermittently for highly coveted concerts of his greatest hits. His 2012 appearances in New York and LA knocked fans' socks off, bringing anticipation for his 2014 tour dates to a fever pitch.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born and raised in Paris, Johnny Hallyday became a European superstar in the '60s with his French-language recordings of Elvis-inspired rock and roll. Along with his signature croon and pompadour-topped good looks, beloved hits like "Let's Twist Again" and "Que Je T'aime" made Hallyday an overnight icon — a status that was only fueled by his outrageous live performances. Over a career that spans half a century, Hallyday has released 41 studio albums, embarked on more than 180 tours, and sold in excess of 100 million records, earning him an almost unrivaled position in French popular culture.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"One of the most entertaining performances I have ever seen - even though I am not fluent in French, this was a tremendously enjoyable show. Easily can understand the ongoing popularity of Johnny, Johnny, Johnny."

"An exceptional performance by an exceptional artist. He was in such great shape, sang his hits from the 60s as well as more recent ones and, of course, the now-classic 'Gabrielle,' 'Diego' etc..."

"Johnny was a ROCKSTAR, singing for almost two hours straight, both old and new songs that the audience loved."

    Johnny Hallyday is "It"!

by Redoran on 5/9/14Beacon Theatre - New York

Let me say the show was nothing less than fantastic. Before May 2012, I had no idea French Rock existed. WOW! My wife and I enjoyed the show beyond imagination (did I state that correctly?). Johnny has a fantastic baritone voice at 70 years of age. His stage presence makes him an "It". What else there to say about a true artist? BTW- we don't speak or understand French! Does not matter. He beats American rockers hands down!

Johnny Hallyday was a Life Experience.

by JohnSenek on 5/9/14Beacon Theatre - New York

On a scale of 1 - 10, Johnny Hallyday was a 10. Johnny is the French Elvis Presley. I learned about Johnny Hallyday when I took French in High School. The show started about 40 minutes late but lasted for 2 hours. Everyone was chanting john-ny, john-ny, john-ny. Jean Reno was singing with Johnny at the end of the show.. I was at the theatre exit to take a picture of Johnny but he left in such a hurry no one had the chance.

Johnny Hallyday- Perhaps best rocker in the world

by Olderbaby on 5/9/14Beacon Theatre - New York

Two thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine French speakers... and moi. He rocks in any language. Even though all the songs are in French some are instantly recognizable. The House of the Rising Sun, a little Credence, some hillbilly. The crowd was on its feet and singing along. His is a forty year career so the audience ranged from twenty somethings on up to people even as old as I! I highly recommend seeing this incredible phenomenon. The only singer that might be as electric is Jagger, and he ain't playing the Beacon.

    well done

by therealnadine on 10/17/12Beacon Theatre - New York

I'm very glad that I decided to attend this historic event. Johnny Hallyday is classic figure in world music and one of my favorites and he doesn't usually appear in my hometown, NYC. He was in top form; he looked, sang, moved and played excellently. The back-up musicians and singers and guest star, Mick Jones were all also very high quality and did a wonderful job. The lighting effects were all fun and appropriate. He did so many classic Johnny tunes and some great covers, like Jimi Hendrix' Hey joe. Although I had hoped he would do "Nadine", so I could yell out "je suis ici" , and he didn't, the overall effect of the choices he played, the quality of the performance and coordination of everything, was perfect. This was an evening that will remain a positive memory for me forever.

    Johnny comes to Manhattan !!!!

by cmkparis on 10/10/12Beacon Theatre - New York

J ohnny was energetic; his voice is still fantastic --strong,clear, full of emotion; The Band was great also. The use of moving background screen images was different and very effective, as was the use of lights. Johnny and his songs were very enthusiastically received by the predominantly French crowd. All in all, it was a great evening. However, I was surprised and disappointed that there were no playbill or concert memorabilia for sale..tee-shirts,etc.

    Johnny is still "The King"!

by Redoran on 10/10/12Beacon Theatre - New York

The show was incredible/wonderful. I think 90% of the people there were French. I do not know the French language, but we enjoyed the show to no end. Americans with their "rap/hip hoppers", know nothing! We will follow Johnny and look forward to seeing him at the Beacon in 2013.

    Johnny A Phenomenon

by Arthur4 on 10/10/12Beacon Theatre - New York

One of the most entertaining performances I have ever seen - even though I am not fluent in French, this was a tremendously enjoyable show. Easily can understand the ongoing popularity of Johnny, Johnny, Johnny. Crowd participation, but a la Francais. A diverse crowd mix, but mostly younger. Excellent backup band and backup singers. Drummer had massive bass drum and two floor toms - three crash cymbals - top notch rhythm all around.

    Johnny, Johnny

by stretchj on 10/10/12Beacon Theatre - New York

Truly amazing performance. Probably the best small venue rock concert I have ever seen. Even though I have only a poor knowledge of French(and the concert was entirely in French except for the one or two songs sung in English) the music was incredible from his version of "Hey Joe" to his famous ballade "On Marie". The large band he had behind him included several excellent guitarists and a truly superb harmonicist. The back up vocals were also good. I have seen Robert Plant at the Beacon and his music filled the theatre but not as well as Johnny Halladya's group. Unfortunately it may well be the only time Johnny Halladay performs in New York but if anyone has a chance to see him elsewhere--particularly in Europe next year--see him. Johnny Johnny Johnny

by ETCT on 10/9/12Beacon Theatre - New York

Very good show. Johnny Hallyday was so good! The sound was a little too much and the lyrics could have been louder to appreciate even more his voice. We loved it and are very happy we went.
