    Clegg at his best

    by 4carat on 10/30/17Warner Theatre - Washington

What a bitter sweet evening in the presence of Johnny Clegg and his band. This is Johnny's final tour; the evening became a teaching moment as he led us through his personal and musical develooment influenced so heavily by his Zulu associations. Highlights included an explanation of mitochondrial DNA and "Mother Africa" from his days as professor of anthropology, a video of the surprise onstage visit by Nelson Mandela, and a duo with his son of a song written by the son for his father. All in all, it was a beautiful evening filled with emotion and amazing music!

Johnny Clegg is a Singular Talent and Intellect

by ProfSteve on 10/30/17Warner Theatre - Washington

There's no point in a review. Johnny Clegg is in remission of a very serious form of cancer, and took this opportunity for a last world tour. If you missed it, you will never have the chance to see him again. And what a lost opportunity! How often do you see a double knight (Britain and France) sing his songs from a 40-year musical career that made him a living legend in his native land of South Africa, as well as Europe? He has a smaller following in the US, but his music deserves many more fans. A former zulu dance champion (the French call him the White Zulu), at 64 years old he can still do phenomenal kicks and explain the interpretation. Heartbreaking and triumphant. Intellectual, modest and concerned. That's the best humanity can be, and that's Johnny Clegg.

    A Legend

    by Melvan987 on 10/30/17Warner Theatre - Washington

Johnny Clegg was wonderful. The format, both speaking and singing, that reviewed his 40 years of performing was both entertaining and educational. His tributes to his friend, his mother and to Africa were marvelous

Bittersweet last concert tour by Johnny Clegg

by DrBobintheBronx on 10/27/17B.B. King Blues Club & Grill - New York

A great performance by international star Johnny Clegg of Juluka and Savuka fame and his long-time band on his final world tour. Many South Africans in the audience and his fans singing the words to his songs. Truly an unforgettable evening.

Must see show...if you are a Johnny Clegg fan!!

by AllyMcMerritt on 10/26/17B.B. King Blues Club & Grill - New York

This concert was simply amazing! If you are a Johnny Clegg fan, try to go to one of his shows on the "Final World Tour." This show was my 5th Johnny Clegg concert (going back to 1990!), and it may have been the best one yet. The BB King venue is very intimate, so that helped set the vibe as well. His son, Jesse, opened for him, and also sang with him later. There was also a big surprise when the lead singer from Walk the Moon came on-stage and sang Asimbonaga with him. He recently discovered Johnny Clegg's music, and they are going to write together later on the tour. I'm also going to the Chicago show as well. Can't get enough! Johnny has a Great Heart and makes me Dela in this Cruel Crazy Beautiful World!! :-)

    Don't miss The Final Journey!

by DRMFL on 10/26/17B.B. King Blues Club & Grill - New York

What an amazing two nights in NYC! The intimate setting of BB Kings was the perfect venue for Johnny's Clegg "The Final Journey" tour. This is the last time American audiences will be able to see this legendary performer. The stories, videos, dancing and songs...not to be missed!

Excellent shows in both Chicago & Minneapolis!

by CarmenKim123 on 2/10/17CIty Winery and Cedar Cultural Center - Chicago and Minneapolis

After travelling to South Africa several years ago, and already being a longtime fan, I saw Johnny & band perform in Chicago at the City Winery. Wonderful high-energy show with his full band. I enjoyed his commentaries along the way: his insightfulness is what more Americans should have in these times. Two years later, I also saw Johnny with his son, Jesse in Minneapolis. The Cedar Cultural Center is a smaller & more intimate; I could tell it was more Johnny style. Sitting center, four rows back, it was amazing to see that Johnny can still Kick It like in the old videos of his dancing with African tribal peoples. Jesse was also excellent and it was heartwarming to imagine father and son touring together with their gifts of song.

    This concert reenergized me!

    by Melissa9876 on 4/11/16Carolina Theatre - Durham

The Johnny Clegg Band brought their uniquely joyful music to Durham, NC, on March 22, 2016, for an unforgettable concert. They dazzled the extremely appreciative audience with songs familiar to longtime fans, with Johnny often talking briefly between songs. I have been a fan since the 1990s, so it was thrilling to finally see him live -- and from the fourth row! Nearly three weeks later, I am still experiencing Concert Glow and feeling more engaged with life. This concert reenergized my spirit and has gotten me thinking about how to make more of a difference with my life. Needless to say, the performance was great fun, and my husband also had a wonderful time. Jesse Clegg's performance was also terrific. Johnny and Jesse Clegg, thank you for coming to Durham, NC, and please return when you can!

    Still experiencing Concert Glow

They dazzled the extremely appreciative audience with songs familiar to longtime fans, with Johnny often talking briefly between songs. I have been a fan since the 1990s, so it was thrilling to finally see him live -- and from the fourth row! Two weeks later, I am still experiencing Concert Glow and feeling more engaged with life. I struggled to find the words to express how much the concert meant to me until I saw this comment by Johnny Clegg in the April 1, 2016, Kingston Whig-Standard newspaper: "You go to a concert to become reinvigorated and rehumanized. Music's function, really, is not to be dark and an internal monologue -- it's about connecting." This concert, for me, succeeded spectacularly. Jesse Clegg's performance was also terrific. Johnny and Jesse Clegg, thank you for coming to Durham, NC, and please return when you can!

Awesome but don't forget fans stage right.

by BuckyW on 4/4/16B.B. King Blues Club & Grill - New York

Johnny and the band are my family's all time favorite. Intelligent stories with mezmerizing rhythms. We have been to three concerts and the band never disappoints. My only critisism is that for this particular concert Johnny was so focused on impressing his special guests from the U.N. that he played to that side of the room all night and rarely glanced or gave any energy to the fans sitting stage right. I can understand why he wanted to impress them and I think if he realized that this was what he was doing he would have "spread the love". So, no hard feelings; just thought he should know.

    Johnny Clegg at BB Kings

by Concertmama64 on 4/4/16B.B. King Blues Club & Grill - New York

I have had Johnny King on my concert bucket list for sometime. I think I originally heard him on Margaritaville radio. I saw that he is on tour and bought tickets for my husband and i to see him in NY at BB Kings. Johnny Clegg has been making beautiful music for over 30 years. His music is very popular in South Africa where he is from. He combines African and Celtic sounds to deliver amazing music. There were people ranging in age from their 20s up to their 50s and they were all on their feet dancing by the end of the show. We are big fans now!!!

by ChristyInFlorida on 3/29/16Parker Playhouse - Ft Lauderdale

This was by far the best concert I have ever been to! Intimate venue with a great sound system. Johnny was beyond incredible! No smoke and mirrors here. He's aged like a fine wine and sounds better today than when I first heard him in the 80's! Every single person in the audience was dancing, even the ushers!

    The wait was worth it

by BobWright on 3/26/16Carolina Theatre - Durham

I first heard Johnny Clegg 25 years ago while serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in Botswana. After hearing a story about him on a Voice of America radio broadcast, i bought tapes that I played again and again. I was very happy to finally hear him in person. He's a fine musician who has done a lot to break down racial barriers in South Africa.

    Johnny Clegg Does it Again

by Spinfoolish on 3/25/16Carolina Theatre - Durham

The concert at the Carolina Theater was amazing! The venue is beautiful, the sound was perfect, and Johnny and the band played wonderful music. With over three decades of music to choose from it must be hard to narrow down the choices to one set list, but once again he chose a fabulous mix of old and new. He shared information about the history of the songs, why he wrote them, what inspired him - it was fascinating. Johnny Clegg is an amazing and under appreciated talent. I feel so lucky to have been able to experience this concert.

    Best show ever

by Lihle on 3/25/16Carolina Theatre - Durham

It was nice to attend the concert. Well performed an I enjoyed all the songs. When it ended I felt like I needed more. I would have loved Woza Friday and Impi in the song selection.
