    John Williams is THE man!

by DFry on 9/2/13Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

It was a sold out show and it was really hot that night so we were all packed in like sweaty sardines. But not even that can take away from how amazing it was to hear Williams' classic songs. My only complaint is that it wasn't long enough. I wish we could've stayed all night!

    Fun Evening!

by JeanieOK on 9/2/13Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Great place to be on a warm, August evening, under the stars. Music was wonderful, LA Phil was amazing, as always. Loved John Williams' stuff the best. Julie Andrew's was good, but went on a bit too long about her husband's career (Blake Edwards); and Mancini's music was wonderful too, but wanted a bit more of Williams' compositions. All in all, a lovely evening. Great fun! The visuals were fun to see, accompanying the music.

Music was great, selections memorable, overall enjoyable night out, although Multi-Screens and occasional Helicopter overhead were tad distracting.

John Williams at the Hollywood Bowl

    by ww8181 on 9/2/13Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

John Williams is truly a "living legend." The most popular and successful film composer of all time, with an unparalleled list of iconic movie scores. The first half of the show was dedicated to the works of another legend: Henry Mancini, and hosted by Julie Andrews. Every tune a classic and Ms. Andrews was a welcome presence - to salute her friend and husband's life-long collaborator. The second half of the show was all Williams....and it played to an enthusiastic audience of fans. Seeing Mr. Williams fill a 17,000 seat arena repeated (this is an annual event) demonstrates that he is practically a rock star himself: A one-of-a-kind, top-of-his-field genius that has graced the movies with many of its most memorable moments. What a treat to see him conduct his own material live - he never disappoints. A great show.

The light sabers during Star Wars was spectacular

by Pamapple on 9/2/13Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

If you are a John Williams fan, this is a must see. The event was amazing. However, parking and the shuttle was a major pain. Although they were very nice, the shuttle was a long walk awy and took forever. The evening wasn't worth it to our friends , however it was to me and I loved it!

Ain't what it used to be.

by TheRandomDude on 9/2/13Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Don't get me wrong. It's a great show. It just has the potential to be so much better. I understand they need to fill two hours and have a certain level of interest for the audience while appealing to the different types of audience members, but with so many great things john williams has done, I just expected a little more oomph. I'll still go next year. There is always hope!

John Williams, like always, more than delivered! His concerts are the best and for all ages! Julie Andrews was the special guest star narrator for the evening which made it even more special! Good times, great memories for the whole family!

    "Maestro of the Music" BRAVO!!!

by Steveracer on 9/2/13Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Very enjoyable night of movie music. Special Guest narrator Dame Julie Andrews was radiant, (a particular favorite of mine's as was many in the audience). First half consisted of Blake Edwards/Henry Mancini movie music such a Peter Gunn, Pink Panther, Breakfast at Tiffanys' , SOB,10 etc. Very nice moment when Monica Mancini (Henry's daughter) sang "Days of Wine and Roses" At first halves end the "Pink Panther" presented a bouquet of flowers to Dame Julie. Nice touch! After a 20 min intermission, John Williams movie music was played to perfection by the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Selections from Raiders, Star Wars and Lincoln rounded out the evening. Only bad part was the weather ,even at night it was very hot & humid! Otherwise a great concert! Go see it!

Get concert for fans of good movie music.

by OCteacher on 9/2/13Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

I avoided the Hollywood Bowl because of the chaos parking. However, once I discovered the bus shuttle I will be planning many future visits. John Williams conducting the LA Phil to his own music was exceptional. Hearing Julie Andrews speak of her husband, Blake Edwards and Henry Mancini was touching. It was a wonderful concert and good for couples, friends and family.

    Williams and Andrews: Class Acts

by Mubber on 9/2/13Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

The John Williams concert is always a highlight of the Hollywood Bowl season, but this year's was made even more special because Julie Andrews was the guest narrator. This classy lady helped the audience to appreciate Maestro Williams, composer Henry Mancini, and her own late husband, writer/director/producer Blake Edwards, with her seamless storytelling. The film clips were brilliant, and only the unusual heat and humidity detracted from what was otherwise a perfect Bowl experience. Watching Williams and Andrews perform together, especially when the material was so meaningful to both of them personally, was a rare privilege.

    Disappointing

by Dawsondog on 9/2/13Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Lets see . . . Of all his incredible music he composed for the movies only two popular ones were played by the philharmonic (Raider & Star Wars). When advertising a "John Williams" concert it would have been nice if more than just the last 45 minutes had his music from the movies. Concert could have been so much more enjoyable if only they played his movie music (Harry Potter, Superman, Jaws, etc.). Although they did play an "encore" score from ET.

    John Williams half was Outstanding

by SteveMittman on 9/2/13Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

I thought there was a bit of a disconnect with having the first half Henry Mancini music M.C.'ed by Julie Andrews, and the second half John Williams conducting Star Wars and Indiana Jones music as they are completely different genres. Also, Henry Mancini appeals to an older audience while Star Wars appeals to a younger audience. I went to see John Williams, and for that half of the show, it was outstanding. When the Star Wars music began, the audience erupted into huge applause, and suddenly thousands of colorful lightsabres began being enthusiastically waved in the air! When Indiana Jones music was being played, the overhead screens displayed scenes and fast-clips from that series of movies. That really enhanced the whole experience. However, they didn't similarly display any clips while the Star Wars music was being played, and that was a little disappointing. I would recommend that they similarly display Star Wars clips while the Star Wars music is being played.
