  • Welcome back John!

by Doc on 2/9/20Ludlow Garage Cincinnati - CincinnatiRating: 3 out of 5

John Sebastian played to a packed house at the Ludlow Garage on 2/6/20. He brought 2 guitars and a harmonica and played unaccompanied both Lovin Spoonful and solo material for a 90 minute set. He had lots of interesting stories between songs that kept the audience engaged. I'm not sure if he had laryngitis or maybe his voice permanently sounds that way now but it sounded like "Nick Nolte sings John Sebastian." Disappointing!!

  • Fun show with one of our alltime favorites

by Ron on 2/9/20Ludlow Garage Cincinnati - CincinnatiRating: 4 out of 5

We had a great time at the John Sebastian show at the Ludlow Garage. I must admit that I was a bit taken aback when he walked on stage. I'm afraid that John, like all of us, got old while I wasn't watching. His voice isn't as sweet as it was during the Lovin Spoonful days but the songs were great and he told stories from the early days that kept us entertained all night. Understand, this isn't a "Greatest Hits" show but just a wonderful evening with an old friend.

  • John Sebastian

by Jerry on 10/25/19Bethel Woods Center for the Arts - BethelRating: 5 out of 5

John is just as good as he was in the 60s and 70s just a little older. What a show he put on. He just didnt play his music but told us about it and how it came about. He gave us a synopsis of his life along the way. Unforgetable!

  • An Evening with John Sebastian is a Night to Remember

by H. C. on 10/23/19Bethel Woods Center for the Arts - BethelRating: 5 out of 5

Phenomenal show by Mr. Sebastian at the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. Event Gallery is a large yet intimate room so even with 200+ people in the audience it felt like you were spending time with a dear friend as he played songs and told HYSTERICAL stories in between. Regretfully my friend and I had to leave the concert early because we came by bus (booked round trip tickets to come from NYC to Bethel and it wasn’t until we were changing buses in Monticello that the 2nd bus driver casually dropped that he wasn’t going to take us all the way to the Center for the Arts and that there wouldn’t be a bus back to Monticello. So we were in a bit of a panic on how we were going to get home that night until the woman at the Bethel Woods front desk helped us. She was extremely helpful). Anyway, heard a lot of our favorite tunes and some extra surprises. We had smiles on our faces throughout the show and all the way home. Hoping to see him perform again soon. Easily in my top 5 favorite live shows I’ve been to.

  • I Believe In Magic

by MaMarina on 10/22/19Bethel Woods Center for the Arts - BethelRating: 5 out of 5

Iconic singer/songwriter, now storyteller John Sebastion entered the Bethel Center For the Arts as he left, confidently marching to and from the stage, through an older, adoring crowd of bonafide fans. The stage was unpretentious, as was the whole venue. Accompanied by what seemed to be two old friends....an acoustic & electric guitar that John kept lovingly switching up. At 75, Sebastion’s sweet and melodious tenor voice has aged, as he has with graceful fluidity. No one seems more aware of the physical changes than Sebastian himself, referencing his 55 year old career, several times with humorous, intricately woven stories about Woodstock, the beginnings of Rock & Roll, long haired hippies and his many musical heroes..... who are also ours. Accepting his limitations he encouraged the audience to sing along.... an easy task for the several hundred devotees of The Loving Spoonful and John himself. Bethel Center for the Arts is acoustic perfection and seeing John Sebastian perform there was like visiting with an old friend. It was a magical evening.

  • Outstanding Entertainer

by Barry on 10/22/19Bethel Woods Center for the Arts - BethelRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was one of the most enjoyable concerts we have seen in quite a while. It ranks up there in our top five. It is not very often that we get to see a member of the Rock and Roll hall of fame sing his popular songs that he wrote but also tell us the story behind them. He has a great sense of humor and is a wonderful entertainer. It was obvious that he loved what he was doing and the crowd responded to that. I will definitely go see him again.

  • Wonderful

by RAZ on 10/22/19Bethel Woods Center for the Arts - BethelRating: 5 out of 5

Thoroughly enjoyed the concert. John was charming, witty and humble. Did almost all of his big hits (too many to do them all) telling stories throughout the concert. Unrelated to the concert the pre-concert farm to table dinner was fair at best. Several of the dishes were cold and not much choice for vegetarians. Would not do it again.

  • John Sebastian at Bethel Woods

by Deb and Joel on 10/22/19Bethel Woods Center for the Arts - BethelRating: 5 out of 5

Well he's out there though his voice isn't what it once was but he made up for it with great stories and audience interaction. Very glad we decided to go.

  • Great time

by DB on 8/20/19Rating: 5 out of 5

Sold out show at Eddies Attic Decatur GA. Great time, funny story's especially the one about Diana Ross. Great sing along to Welcome Back. Signed autographs after show. Sweet charming man. Never got to see Spoonful while growing up in NYC. This made up for it.

  • Waste of time and money - an empty spoonful

by Anonymous on 3/14/18Infinity Hall - NorfolkRating: 1 out of 5

The lovin spoonful was a great band but after seeing John Sebastian, I can understand why he was playing alone. He played for barely 90 min and talked though most of it thinking he was charming the audience with stories of his hay day. He obviously thinks very highly of himself and took every opportunity to “brag” about his life’s accomplishments and conquests. His voice is shot and barely played one song start to finish without taking a break to talk. He even insulted someone in the audience, accusing him of being on the internet....when half the audience was on their phone. I no longer believe in magic!

  • Spoon no longer full!!

by Anonymous on 3/13/18Infinity Hall - NorfolkRating: 1 out of 5

As a fan of most all the happy music produced by the Lovin Spoonful in the 1960's that I enjoyed as a teenager growing up in Brooklyn, I looked forward to seeing John Sebastian perform. I was amazed to see 1/3 of a 300 seat venue in Norfolk Connecticut empty at show time, but by the end of the show, I understood why. Although it's to be expected that a man in his 70's shouldn't sound as he did in his 20's, it was the performance that was disappointing. John played for barely 90 minutes and spent most of that time relating life stories with self-praise as the main theme. His voice is gone and so is the magic! He didn't even bother to play Summer in the City!

  • Great evening with a favorite performer

by fan102117 on 10/24/17Bethel Woods Center for the Arts - BethelRating: 5 out of 5

What a great evening with a great performer. If you want to go back to teen years for a few hours go see John Sebastian especially at Bethel Woods. Great songs, stories ,harmonica and even whistling . Having fellow guitarist Arlen Roth added even more talent to the evening. The only thing missing to complete the transport back in time was the autoharp and some tie dye!

  • Disappointed

by Peony56 on 10/24/17Bethel Woods Center for the Arts - BethelRating: 3 out of 5

Did not play many of his old time hits...too much talking about the old days ... too many songs I did not know. Not what I expected. Played 1 1/2 hours...not worth the ticket price.

  • Terrible singing voice

    by captaink3 on 9/27/16One World Theatre - AustinRating: 2 out of 5

We were disappointed with the concert because John Sebastian's singing voice was terrible. That is too bad, because he was very likeable. John's guitar playing was very good and his stories were interesting and entertaining. The concert lasted about 90 minutes, and he spent 45-60 minutes talking, not playing. John played several hits (Nashville Cats, Do You Believe In Magic, You're A Big Boy Now), but did NOT play the following hits: Darling Be Home Soon, Summer In The City, Rain On The Roof, Did You Ever Have To Make Up Your Mind, Jug Band Music, She Is Still A Mystery, Didn't Want To Have To Do It, Six O'clock, Younger Generation, Welcome Back.

  • John Sebastian rocks!

by Painfullyshy on 8/31/16Paramount Theatre - Asbury ParkRating: 5 out of 5

The Paramount theatre backstage was the perfect venue for John. In that intimate setting his stoires and guitar mastery were close up and personal. He is as relevant today as he was when he was knocking about New York clubs honing his craft.

  • john b. at his best

    by waves724 on 8/23/16Paramount Theatre - Asbury ParkRating: 5 out of 5

what a great show, backstage series is something really neat. John B. sounded fantastic, great set list , really brought you back to SPOONFUL days. And the stories John told made for a great night. THE MAN CAN STILL PICK A CORD!!!!

  • Well worth it!

by MikeP73 on 1/14/16Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra BeachRating: 5 out of 5

I almost didn't go to this show, but I am very glad I did! The between-song storytelling was well worth the admission, and all of the songs performed were very well selected. I grew up listening to The Lovin' Spoonful (courtesy of my dad), and I was not disappointed by the song selection (about half Lovin' Spoonful songs) - I also enjoyed most of the non-Spoonful songs. It was a truly one-man show, and John Sebastian has a very engaging & entertaining stage presence. Highly recommended!

  • A relaxed evening with a genuine talented artist

by RES999 on 1/13/16Amaturo Theater at Broward Center - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5

John entered the stage in a beautiful venue and was just his normal self as expected. His stories about the songs he sang tonight were just as entertaining. First time I saw him with the spoonful was in 1965 At Kingston college in PA. they were the opening act with the beach boys. I have been a fan ever since. It was nice to see John again in his natural element. He was 'Beautiful' one of his favorite phrases. Back at you John! You deserve it.

  • great show

by kkraft on 1/13/16Amaturo Theater at Broward Center - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5

He was very entertaning. His voice although a little weaker still maintains his distinct tone. All of the old favorites were performed and many memories were stirred.
