About

John Oliver is an Emmy and Writer's Guild Award-winning writer, comedian, and host of the HBO show Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. On his occasional breaks from television, John returns to his first love of stand-up, performing to sold-out venues around the world.

From 2006-2013, he was a correspondent on the multi-award winning The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, guest-hosting the show for two months during Stewart's absence in 2013.

After co-hosting the weekly satirical podcast The Bugle with Andy Zaltzman until 2015 and starring in his first stand-up special John Oliver: Terrifying Times, John went on to host four seasons of his own stand-up series for Comedy Central, John Oliver's New York Stand-Up Show, which featured a handpicked selection of his favorite comedians.

Oliver voices the character Zazu in the 2019 Disney film The Lion King and will voice a character in the 2019 Paramount film Amusement Park, following previous guest roles including Danger Mouse, Community, The Smurfs, The Smurfs 2, Bob's Burgers, The Simpsons, The Detour, and Rick & Morty.

  • I also know all the words to that R. Kelly song.

John was so funny, the show was longer than I expected, and pretty clean which I appreciated as I went with my parents. His comments about the Pedal Pub and Michele Bachmann were priceless. I wish he were coming back tomorrow...I don't think the Daily Show can give me the John Oliver fix I now need!

  • John Oliver: worth the money!

by AnnabelleLea on 9/26/11The Venue at Horseshoe Casino - HammondRating: 5 out of 5

I like John Oliver on the Daily Show, but I didn't expect to LOVE this show. Not only was his routine HILARIOUS, but his impromptu stuff was awesome. He played off of an audience comment which took the show in a strange, wonderful direction for like 15 minutes. He was awesome. The opener started kind of slowly, but eventually I started laughing more and more. John Oliver is obviously a comedian, but he was also very authentic at times. It felt like he made comments on the spot that had just popped into his head. I would definitely recommend this show. I didn't expect it to be this good, and I was VERY impressed.

Lightly attended, but that was their loss. It was a very entertaining show. John Oliver has a lot of energy, and great rapport with the audience. Funny, unique, intelligent stuff!

As a regular viewer of The Daily Show, I might be biased, but I thought John Oliver's show was fantastic! Hilarious...he pointed out the "brightest" parts of American culture (hello, Wipeout) and was excellent at interacting with the audience. All with that adorable British accent! It was worth my time!

  • Hilarious!

This was a hilarious show! The most surprising thing was how well he improvised his material. As you might expect, it's full of smart observations about people. It's actually not that political. I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes smart comedy.

  • Bog Snorkeling

by Deral on 9/25/11The Venue at Horseshoe Casino - HammondRating: 4 out of 5

The drive to Hammond was a pain in the butt but quite worth it. John was witty and kept the audience involved. JO asked people to name UK sports that are weird and someone yelled out Bog Snorkeling. JO proceeded to Google it on his iPhone and improvised a great closing.

  • John Oliver is outstanding!

by DailyShowFan on 9/25/11The Venue at Horseshoe Casino - HammondRating: 4 out of 5

John Oliver's performance was excellent! He is definitely going to be a major star! Seats were very good and reasonably priced, and the theater was fine. However, the Hammond Horseshoe Casino, where the venue is located, is VERY tacky. Also, the opening act comedian was terrible.

John Oliver put on an amazing show....he was hilarious as usual, but really interacted with the audience which I especially liked. I would definitely go to see him again!

  • Oliver will die alone in a cold, dark room

Who cares! He's funny! Great show! Even going off-script for audience participation moments, he was hilarious. Will definitely see John Oliver again. Hopefully not at the sad, soul-crushing Horseshoe Casino.

  • America Loves John Oliver

It was a perfect show. The opening comedian, Mike Lawarence, was freaking hysterical. John Oliver's performance was worth every penny. As a big fan of the Daily Show with John Stewart, John Oliver is by far the best correspondent. He did not let anybody down. A must see show!

  • J.O. and his opening act rocked

by Anonymous on 9/25/11The Venue at Horseshoe Casino - HammondRating: 5 out of 5

Even though the hall was only half full, the event was awesome. Hats off to J.O. and his opening act for performing as though the place was packed to the rafters.
