Enjoyed intimate stories of my hometown, Lithgow's home for 2 years.
John Lithgow was born in Rochester but this was the first time he had performed in Rochester and he was at the top of his game. I had seen him recently in The Columnist on Broadway and that performance convinced me to make the road trip for this show. It was worth every cent. He does the show in two acts, reading/performing a short story in each act. The explanation of why the first story is important to him is heart rendering. He does the stories so well that you are transported to a different place and time completely. If you have the chance, this will be a great night with a gifted storyteller.
Phenomenal! Lithgow was so engaging and superb with his artistry and command of the stage. Loved the first act, the second was a bit dark but thought provoking. All in all superb! How I miss Buffalo's Studio Arena Theatre!
Touching, hilarious, endearing... John Lithgow is an American icon and it was a priviledge to be able to enjoy his work in such a small venue. It was an evening I will never forget!
Brilliant performance. Ltihgow is a master. Theater was perfect size and lay out.
The show was tremendous. We were second row, center stage and Mr Lithgow was eight feet away. His stories were poignant and humorous. Go if you can.
John Lithgow was magnificent and is a great performer/entertainer. His different voices and facial expressions for the different characters in the stories were amazing. He was very personable and interacted well with the audience. It was also interesting to find out he was born in Rochester and kived her for 2 years. His story telling was heartfelt and made you want to obtain a copy of the book from which he read.
Loved it, all of us are Lithgow fans from back in the day of 3rd Rock, Garp and recently Dexter. John was extremely engaging right from the start. He is such a tremendously talented person, even someone whom might not know a lot of him would be impressed. I felt like he needed us to listen as he described his past and how he was able overcome the pain of his loss of his dad, and we were there for him. If everyone there was like us, we felt part of his performance. Highly recommended to see if you have a chance
Fantastic one-man show by John Lithgow! A virtuoso performance. Extremely engaging, imaginative, and moving. Enthralling from start to finish.
Though I knew it was going to be an engaging evening, Lithgow's performance shook me with laughter and tension. Hands-down one of the most spectacular evenings of my theatre going life. Simply moving and funny and heart-stopping. Lithgow is a triumph on stage. What a gifted performer. See this show at all costs!
I truly enjoyed the first act,- good story, fantastic ability to act it out, and touching stories about his own life. I found the second act more difficult. The movements of the barber were a real distraction for me. His ability to recite those stories "by heart" was phenomenal, however and overall it was a touching show.
My husband and I were looking forward to seeing John Lithgow, but were very disappointed by the show despite the fact that he is a talented actor. Had we known that he was just going to be reciting 2 short stories, and not telling stories of his own life, we would not have paid $60 per ticket to see him. The first story was told in such a strong "Cockney" British accent that it was difficult to understand and follow. There were more than a few people who left the theater at intermission, so we know we were not alone in our disappointment. I guess I should have done more research on the how before buying the tickets.
John LIthgow's evening of storytelling was rich, delightful and refreshing. A reminder to us all of how we're connected by our stories and the importance of sharing our stories with our children. He is a brilliant performer and warm personality. This performance was well worth the drive from Syracuse. And we are now encouraged to visit The Auditorium for future performances. Bravo!
This is a show without bells and whistles, so if you are looking for that, you will be disappointed. But for those who appreciate good acting and story telling, Mr. Lithgow creates a wonderful world where, like a child, you are soon caught up in the reality of the characters he portrays. His capacity to memorize and so memorably recreate entire works so seemingly effortlessly speaks to both his innate artistry and the sheer mastery of his craft.
Although we think Mr. Lithgow is brilliant can't say that we enjoyed his one man show. Left at intermission.
It always amazes me when a person can stand before a crowd and remember all the lines and actions to be performed. However, John Lithgows performance was a history of his life and memories. He made it seem real and not an acting performance. He seemed to be over joyed to be telling these stories . I thought his performance was flawless and truely entertaining.
Moderately humorous. Did not expect him to read 2 stories, acting out the characters. First story was hard to follow. Certainly not worth the price of the tickets. Would rather see a rerun of 3rd Rock from the Sun.
It was a completely fascinating experience. From the moment he walked on to the stage, to the moment he left, he had our imagination in his hands and didn't let down. This was one of the most inspiring acts I have ever seen. Intimate, funny and heart warming. We're a young married couple (32/35) with 7 kids. It was a total joy.
We were mesmorized by his one man performance. Incredibly talented actor!
Mr.Lithgow is a true teller of tales. He keeps your attention, adds humor and pathos to each story. Excellent "one man show"
