Absolutely fantastic!! John Hodgman was hilarious and we really enjoyed Paul & Storm, as well.
John Hodgman is shockingly smart. His new material is hilarious, and much of it would probably be more accessible to people unfamiliar with his books than that of his last tour (which was also very funny, but in a different way). I saw the show at the Birchmere, and he stayed after to sign autographs and talk to fans. I didn't stick around for that, but I thought it was a nice touch.
This entire show was a treat. Paul & Storm opened, and spent an hour entertaining us with delightful, humorous songs. It was my first time seeing them live, and they were wonderful. I would see them again. John Hodgman's stand up was hilarious. Nearly 100 minutes of comedy for smart people (nerds!). He had us rolling with laughter constantly. To my surprise, he didn't do his "resident expert" schtick that he does on The Daily Show. It was more of a standard stand-up comedy routine. We drove 2 hours to see the show, and 2 hours back home again afterwards. I don't often feel that that effort was entirely worth it. However in this case, it was!
Having never seen John Hodgman live before, I didn't know what to expect. A huge fan of Jonathan Coulton's, I bought the ticket primarily to see him and find out how he interacts with Hodgman. They played off each other beautifully. They had the timing of a long-established comedy duo and the effortlessness of old friends. I laughed so hard, my stomach actually hurt. Coulton sang quite a few of his songs. I Crush Everything was particularly lovely and their harmonizing in Tonight You Belong To Me really struck me. They stayed after to talk with fans and sign things. They were both gracious and pleasant and I loved the whole experience!
It was a good mix of Jonathan Coulton's songs and John Hodgman's deranged millionaire antics. They were both funny and entertaining and we had a great time. And they stayed after the show to sign posters and books which was a thoughtful thing for them to do.
Great show - would love to see them together again
This was unbelievably HORRIBLE!!! People were walking out and I should have too! Not funny at all - thought it would be dry, politcal jokes - there was just one... Best part was when he accidently knocked table over with his water and bourbon!! As a local BrooklIner, you didn't make your town proud! Now go write some funny material...
Jonathan Coulton's music is funny, touching, and catchy. Hodgman's "demented billionaire" persona is great. Definitely a fun night.
John and Jonathan were a good time. John told jokes, Jonathan played the guitar. I wish there was more John and less Jonathan, not that I don't like Jonathan, I do, but being middle aged I don't know a lot of his video game songs, which apparently is his main genre.... however, all his songs were very pleasant, even without understanding them. They are very funny together - a really nice show.
I was with three friends and we cried with laughter throughout the show ... one of the best shows I've seen ever. Music was great, pacing perfect--it's hard to describe why it was so hilarious, but I would see it again and again.
John Hodgman was, as always, an entertaining and engaging comedian. Jonathan Coulton is an inventive and superbly talented musician. Put the two on stage together and it's a show you don't want to miss.
It was great to see john and john goofing around together. Made for a very hilarious and musical show.
Several short sets of JoCo music interspersed with Hodgman's bizarre standup/lectures, with poor Coulton as his (often unwilling, seemingly) foil. Coulton delivered plenty of his signature hits, there were rousing sing-alongs, Hodgman doused Coulton with wine and pelted the audience with (sealed packets of) condiments.
I wish I had known that this show was a routine built for John Hodgeman fans in the know. Was not for me (or the friends I convinced to go with me)
John Hodgman was great - irreverent, delightfuly dry, and completely interactive with the audience.
John Hodgman was very funny, as I expected but probably a tad more odd than I expected. His delivery is consistent with his persona on the Daily Show and even the PC vs. Mac commercials, but he ranges from everyday stuff to fairly strange stuff during the show. I don't mention this to suggest it's not funny - it mostly is - but just a bit off the beaten path.
Let's put it this way: I fell asleep towards the end when he was singing a song about death. He had some good material at the beginning but the show fizzled after that. Opening ad was good. Would not recommend the show for the price unless you're a due hard fan.
