Wonderful evening and love John Adams as usual but if this review goes to him he should leave Michael Martin Murphy out of it as it was very embarrassing that he didn't know his parts and John is much better singer anyway so doesn't need anyone else!

PLEASE TOUR with Michael M Murphey!!

by mountainkate on 7/14/12Red Rocks Amphitheatre - Morrison

John Addams guitar and voice were really good, I was impressed about how much he had mastered John Denver songs. - Mr. Addams beautiful guitar work was memorable and beautiful. Michael Murphey on stage just made it TERRIFIC, their voices sound EXCELLENT TOGETHER and an outstanding concert would have been the two of them singing together their own songs plus John Denver.. They should think about shows together! I would be there with all my friends and family!! Just outstanding them singing and playing together! THANK YOU JOHN ADDAMS FOR ALLOWING MR. MURPHEY TO SING WITH YOU- Your guitars were a bit overwhelmed by the orchestra although they were excellent - especially the violinist! You made a very memorable evening for me and my boyfriend. I will be attending more of your concerts and hope you allow Mr. Murphey an invite back. The two of you together sound EXCELLENT. thank you again for the great eveing, Kate A from Shawnee NEXT TIME YOU OWE US WILD MONTANA SKIES.

When I closed my eyes, I could hear John Denver

by Anonymous on 7/14/12Red Rocks Amphitheatre - Morrison

The concert was the perfect venue at Red Rocks. The only suggestion I would have is that John Adams could play more of John Denver's all time most popular songs. I was very dissapointed when he started two popular songs and said we have to come back next year to hear them. I did not appreciate that and it would keep me from going to another one of John Adams' concerts if it continued.

    John Adams band was amazing

by Vroomobile on 7/14/12Red Rocks Amphitheatre - Morrison

We'd not heard John Adams before but have been avid John Denver fans for 30 years. This was the most amazing and heartfelt concert to hear Denver's music again sung by someone so enamored with John Denver. Adam's voice in some pieces (like Annie's song) was so like hearing John Denver, it gave us goosebumps and brought tears to our eyes.

    John Adams is amazing

by JohnDenverForever on 7/14/12Red Rocks Amphitheatre - Morrison

Such a great concert~ John & his band are amazing. Kid friendly, amazing voice, sounds so much like John Denver. Michael Martin Murphy joined in a few songs, which was very special...and John Denver's aunt was in the audience- very touching to have her there. It really was an amazing night, great music, stories of John Denver and a great crowd. We will be back next year for sure!!!

John Denver Tribute with John Adams

by lovelywinner on 7/14/12Red Rocks Amphitheatre - Morrison

My husband and I expected a much better tribute show, talked too much, only sang a handful of John Denver's well known songs, even sang songs that were not ever recorded in North America, teased audience with 2 or 3 of John Denver's most popular songs by singing a couple of lines and then said come back to Red Rocks next year if you want to hear that song by me, very poor tribute to John Denver.

John Denver with a Dutch accent?

by Janels1 on 7/14/12Red Rocks Amphitheatre - Morrison

I had never heard John Adams do John Denver, some of his YouTube videos done in Aspen didn't sound that great--but I figured that anyone doing a passible JD tribute in Red Rocks would be worthwhile. I had already seen the previous JD tribute this summer there. John Adams started sort of roughly (I had to delete my video bc it sounded so bad), but did get better. He was positively ethereal in "Whispering Jesse". However, what I wasn't prepared for was his thick Dutch accent, and the apparent inability to pronounce "th"--after all these years of singing American songs! And, it might be different if he pronounced the lyrics properly while singing, but often didn't. When he spoke, it was absurd, especially while proclaiming "tank Gud I'm a country boy". Really? Tributists should realize that the ONLY reason we buy tickets is to hear John Denver's songs, and not to learn about the singer himself. And, for the second time having to endure Michael Murphy, generally messing up the duets, is not what John Denver enthusiasts want--just let us hear JD's voice at RR.

    John Denver Concert

by Fredrich on 7/14/12Red Rocks Amphitheatre - Morrison

The concert was VERY enjoyable. As I sat and listened with my eyes closed I could hear elements of John Denver coming through very clearly. John Adams performed extremely well. An excellent vocalist. Sitting somewhat close to the stage I thought that the flute volume was set too high and tended to drown out other instruments and vocalists. (I don't recall that John Denver had that much "flute" in the arrangements.) Expecting to hear all of my John Denver favorites I was disappointed that there were many obscure songs included. Some that I had never heard. To me, those songs were not really John Denver. LOVED the young violinist!!! I'll come back next year to hear those songs you promised to play then.

He sounded just like John Denver!

by coloradonewby on 7/14/12Red Rocks Amphitheatre - Morrison

I had high hopes, and they were met. John Adams really does sound like John Denver! He played a lot of the standards and some others not as well known. Overall, a really fun evening!

Saw another performer and John Denver look alike last month at Red Rocks. While John Adams has a distinctive European accent while talking it is seldom heard while singing. John A's vocals and range are very reminiscent of John Denver's. It was. Wry enjoyable. The CO Chamber Orchestra was exquisite!

John Adams tribute to John Denver @ Red Rocks

by WasthereJuly262011 on 7/14/12Red Rocks Amphitheatre - Morrison

I saw John Denver (in person) several times during his life (both with the Mitchell Trio and at the start of his solo career), and more recently attended concerts by several John Denver tribute artists, include Roy Rivers, Jim Curry, and now John Adams--all of whom performed at Red Rocks. All were very good, but John Adams' tribute was truly special. Not only was it a beautiful night at Red Rocks, but Adams' voice and phrasing sound very close to the original. He was very knowledgeable about Denver's songs, and appreciative of his song-writing skills. Michael Martin Murphy and the Colorado Chamber Orchestra were added bonus features. Only downer was the seat selection, right in back of the covered sound board in the lower center of the outdoor venue. Those seats shouldn't be sold, since the view is really poor. We moved up several rows and a bit to the side, so we would have a better view of the stage.

    Great evening under the stars

by Michi329 on 7/14/12Red Rocks Amphitheatre - Morrison

John Adams and his band did a fantastic job of honoring John Denver. John Adam's voice is pure and melodious without trying to be exactly like John Denver. Michael Murphy was great also, as were the Native American performers. Their ceremony would have been much appreciated by John Denver. Only complaint is that the show wasn't long enough. We could have listened to them all night!

    John Adams Band was amazing

by Joni25 on 7/14/12Red Rocks Amphitheatre - Morrison

Unbelievable concert and what a treat when Michael Martin Murphy came out to sing Wildfire - very powerful. If you close your eyes, you are certain its John Denver up there on the stage - amazing how much John Adams sounds like him. Its awesome that John Adams is keeping John Denver's music alive.
