Much like community, music nourishes us mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. It also invites us to come together under the same roof and in a shared moment. In similar fashion, John Craigie rallies a closeness around music anchored by his expressive and stirring songcraft, emotionally charged vocals, lively soundscapes, and uncontainable spirit. The Portland, OR-based singer, songwriter, and producer invites everyone into this space on his 2024 full-length album, Pagan Church. Following tens of millions of streams, sold out shows everywhere, and praise from Rolling Stone and more, he continues to captivate.
The music is always evolving and devolving with each new record, he observes. With my last album Mermaid Salt, I really wanted to explore the sound of isolation and solitude as everyone was heading inside. With this record, I wanted to record the sound of everyone coming back out.
In order to capture that, he didnt go about it alone
Instead, he joined forces with some local friends. At the time, TK & The Holy Know-Nothings booked a slew of outdoor gigs in Portland and they invited Craigie to sit in for a handful of shows. The musicians instinctively identified an unspoken, yet seamless chemistry with each other. Joined by three of the five members, Craigie cut Laurie Rolled Me a J and kickstarted the process. With the full band in tow, they hunkered down in an old schoolhouse TK & The Holy Know-Nothings had converted into a de facto headquarters and studio, and recorded the eleven tracks on Pagan Church.

Huge fan of Craige: the music, vocals and storytelling are a powerful combination of feel good. Incredibly happy I was finally able to see him live. Did not disappoint!
Craigie was excellent. Good laughs, great sound. A true showman and refreshing songwriter. A one man show that draws you in.
This was my first time seeing John Craigie live. It won't be my last!!! He's a lyrical master with a magical voice, and a gift for storytelling!!! I enjoyed this performance. It exceeded all exexperience. Just wow! My fan game is stronger now after this ecperience.
This is the second time I’ve seen John and I absolutely love his stage presence. He’s hysterical. I also love his music - the sound and the content of his songs. It was fun and worthwhile to travel to see him play.
Ticketing process was very easy and intuitive The venue was tremendous The artist was amazing! This is my 3rd John Craigie show and he keeps getting batter.
John Craigie never fails to delight with his funny stories and his great songs.
In over 30 years of catching shows at The Fillmore, I've never experienced a larger crowd (Kudos to John Craigie; you've earned it!). But, it was also the most inconsiderate experience. Everyone around us was talking loudly, above Craigie, like we're more in a bar. Didn't these folks purchase tickets to the show to see and hear Craigie?! I realize this may be more a general comment on the current state to SF concertgoers and not a direct rub on The Fillmore staff, but it would be nice if the staff would remind people entering a show respect to artists and others and keep talking to a minimum during performances. Also, it would be great if the bar would offer coffee again for audience members who choose to not or stop drinking alcohol. Until this year, coffee from the bar was always an option. The Fillmore should be more pro-active in providing non-alcoholic options for the audience. Thanks.
Craigie and friends rocked the Fillmore. Rarely have seen more happy faces on exiting a show
So much beauty and positive messaging so that each performer built rapport with us. Phil, you picked a good one!
I'd never heard of this artist. The music/talking was enjoyed by the attendees. The sound quality was decent. It was the first time I had been at this venue since before the pandemic. I'm not generally interested in an entertainer's politics. He seemed a bit too interested in sharing. Otherwise, it was a night out with my friends.
As always, John Craigie can entertain. He is talented guitar song writer who can tell a good a story as anyone. He relates his music to life and never entertains. He already knows he crushed it, I let him know. Highly recommend this guy Just need to convince him to play a little longer set. Saw him in Tucson and we are from Canada While I’m down
Second time seeing John Craigie, first time at The Southern. I would do it again tomorrow. Great show.
Fantastic show. I've not seen John Cragie before but will travel again to see him. And the venue, the Southern Cafe, was great.
Tremendous venue and vibe of the crowd. Craigie brought it as usual! This guy is a can’t miss
John Craige provided a unique experience with his excellent music and funny stories in between. His interaction with the crowd was second to none. I'll be seeing him again as soon as I'm able.
While the show was really incredible the only hiccup (which is admittedly minor) was that the venue's A/C was so strong I had to move from certain spots because I was too cold.
Had a great time…Craigie lived up to expectations! Well worth the two-hour drive to Covington.
This was my first time seeing John Craigie in concert and it was great! Hope he comes back to Tucson soon.
this was another top notch concert by john craigie. the venue was good - very intimate, not crowded, not hot. (hey, this is tucson in the summer, right?) john did his usual excellent job of singing and storytelling. i always enjoy his concerts.
