About

Choreographer: Christopher Wheeldon
Music: Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky
Wheeldon reimagines ballet’s greatest love
story, setting it in the stunning, Degas-inspired
studios of the Paris Opera Ballet
of the 19th century. Combining classical
elements with a modern vision, Wheeldon
has created a striking retelling of one of the
most famous ballets of all time.

    Performance was absolutely beautiful.

by Haggs on 10/30/14Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

To listen to Tchaikovsky's work while watching the wonderful job done by the dancers was the best possible way I could have imagined spending that Sunday afternoon. From start to finish the dancing became more intense as the orchestra played Tchaikovsky the way I am sure he envisioned it. This my first time seeing Swan Lake and I assure you it will not be my last and I can only hope the following performances can compare to this one, it will be tough...

    great first ballet

by gjdp on 10/29/14Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

This was the first ballet I ever attended and I was fortunate to attend with an "experienced" ballet fan. She tipped off to when the set pieces would occur -- much like the arias in opera, with which I'm much more familiar. My favorite part was the dance of the Four Little Swans. I didn't care for the frame story in which Rothbart became a lecherous rich patron. Unnecessary. Another plus was the option to pre-order drinks for the intermissions. Great Idea!

    Exquisite production and performance

by Hanslick on 10/29/14Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

The Joffrey gave a memorable performance of this epitome of classical ballet. The work of the corps was flawless, and the stars were as graceful and athletic as any one might see. We are fortunate to have such a first class company in our city.

    Swan Lake

by Anonymous on 10/29/14Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

I am a semi-professional theatre director/actor and have directed and preformed in over 75 stage productions. The performance of Swan Lake was absolutely fantastic, the sets were very creative, the leads were almost flawless consistantly landing as if the stage was a pool of soft better, the four baby swans were mesmorizing with flawless precision, and lastly the orchestra was crisp, clean, and in perfect musical harmony. WOW, what a treat! It was my first professional Ballet, and I will attend in the future. I took my son and his 6 year old daughter who is currently dancing with the Berkeley California Ballet company and she sat on the edge of her seat. Adam Gawlikowski

Swan Lake is a Must See!

by Anonymous on 10/29/14Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

I really enjoyed this show! This is the second Joffrey Ballet performance I have attended. This performance stayed true to the classic elements that you would expect to see from Swan Lake, but also made an interesting and different take from the choreographer. I've always wanted to see this classic performance and I was not disappointed.
