About

Ever since she took center stage in 1982 classic No. 1 “I Love Rock n’ Roll,” Joan Jett and her band scored hit after hit, ranging from the soft “Crimson and Clover” to the edgy “I Hate Myself for Loving You." After her much-publicized appearance in the 2013 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Jett reached out to a newer, younger generation of fans who totally rocked out to her high-energy vibe and powerhouse voice. The parade appearance topped off a banner year for Jett and her band, The Blackhearts, a year that included the release of “Unvarnished,” an album that spawned yet another Jett mega-hit, “Any Weather.” Even with her salty punk vibe, she quickly gained mainstream fame, so much so that Jett and her Blackhearts were the first rock group to perform on Broadway during the 1980s in a concert series that broke records for the fastest ticket sell-out.

Rejecting the glamorous pop-diva image, Jett has reveled in creating her own style of in-your-face, girl-from-the-other-side-of-the-tracks Gothic glamor that greatly influenced the subsequent generation of female rockers. A bona fide activist, Jett is considered a role model for generations of women because of her commitment to feminist causes. In addition, she is an outspoken animal rights activist and is heavily involved with groups like PETA. In 2010, Jett released a successful two-disc "Greatest Hits" album, which she followed in 2013 with “Unvarnished," a moving, uncompromising album. Jett is as much in the limelight as ever; and even her iconic “I Hate Myself For Loving You” has been transmogrified into the Sunday Night Football Theme for NBC. in 2014 Jett, along with her Blackhearts band, continue to tour throughout the world with her belty, tuneful voice; energetic, charismatic presence; and vibrant, resonating lyrics.

    Joan Jett was AMAZING

by wwwStudioCPhotography on 7/15/09Tioga Downs - Nichols

We drove 5.5 hours from Maryland to Nichols NY and saw Joan Jett at Tioga Downs. She was absolutely phenomenal. She looked great, sounded great, belted 'em out exactly like she sounds on her records, and I was belting 'em out with her. The crowd went mad. Cheering and dancing and singing. She was totally on and could NOT have been better. The was was a wide mix of everyone from 15 to 60, goths and hippies and yuppies and teens and couples and groups and you name it. We made friends with a couple from New Jersey, a boy with blue hair and glitter eye liner, and an older Jetthead from New York and his sister. It was a blast. The only thing I could have lived without was Fetish, which is the only song of hers that I absolutely hate. Dark, unappealing, and too weird coming out of even her mouth. Sorry. As for the venue, it was a small casino full of rednecks and fat old ladies like most rural casinos, and the food was terrible, the drinks were quite strong; but who cares about any of that. The concert was on the racetrack, and even from the stands you had a great view of the stage. We were in the third row, and moved up to some vacant seats in the first row - dead center. (Yes, VACANT seats in the 1st row if you can believe that.) I got tons of pics of her ... and LOST my PHONE. (Did I mention that the drinks were strong?) That was the bad part. But some people we met sent me images, so at least I got a few. Joan Jett is a fantastic performer - see her anywhere if you can. Totally worth it!

    true to her sound

    by farmboy101 on 7/14/09Tioga Downs - Nichols

Though the show was not very long, Joan played a variety of her songs and sounds as good in concert as she does on her albums. Her music does not lose quality when she's live like some artists. She does a fun show and loves doing what she does.

Joan Jett gave an amazing performance!! She played both new music and old favorites like I love Rock and Roll! Considering the amount we paid for the tickets, it was an awesome value. Tioga Downs was a great place for the concert.

I love rock n roll, but...

by Rockin448 on 7/8/09Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

I've always thought Joan was cool. A real hard-core type. But I was disappointed that she chose this platform to promote her gay liberation views. She started out rockin' and held the crowd, young and old, in the palm of her hand, but when she played the obviously gay promos from her latest release, she lost all but the lesbian crowd that was there. I try to be open-minded and accepting, but I don't need an overrated, over-the-hill, 3 hit wonder trying to convince me. Or was she preaching to the choir? She could have milked the crowd with "I Love Rock N Roll" for a full 15 minutes! But , in spite of a brief sing-a-long, it was as shortlived as a radio cut. I had a good time watchin' her tear up the old stuff, that's why I went to see her, but I walked straight out of the grandstand wondering if a lifestyle qualifies you as a minority.

Joan Jett @ Del Mar Fair

by CBLinSD on 7/6/09Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

Joan Jett was terrific! It was incredible to share and hear her music with my 23 year old daughter, who enjoyed it as much as I. What a cycle of life! She rocks harder than ever, and got the crowd going as she always has. Would love to see her again!

    Joan Jett rocks

by Deekay on 7/6/09Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

For a 50 yr old woman, she sure did not show her age. Music was loud and rockin' the house down, as a good rock conert should be. Joan presented a good collection of her hits, which was exactly why I go to a Joan Jett concert - to listen to the songs I know. Del Mar Fairgrounds is not the best of locations but for a rock concert, it sufficed since loud was the main ingredient. The ticketing experience was good. Collected my tix at the Will Call with no hassles, right next to the main entrance, so that was very convenient.

    Still kicks butt!

by Tracy5 on 7/5/09Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

She can still ROCK the place!! We had a good time and enjoyed the show. She was very energenic and fun. The rest of the band was good and their sound system was great. There was too much time between the opening act and Joan Jett though. The crowd became restless. Finally someone started to play the song "Hey ho, let's GO!" by the Ramones over the loud speaker and finally Joan Jett and her band came out. We werent sure if the the fair put that song on or what? But it got them out on stage.

Joan Jett still loves rock and roll

by marconi451 on 7/4/09Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

Ms Jett still brings the noise! Backed with an excellent, hard as nails band, she ripped through a seventy-five minute set of her greatest songs (Bad Reputation, I Love Rock and Roll, Light of Day, Naked) and again displayed her excellent taste in choosing cover material i.e., The Sweet's AC/DC,Sly and the Stones' Everyday People, Tommy James' Crimson and Clover. Still slim and sexy in her 40's, Ms Jett has never flaunted her sexuality, simply takes it for a given and rocks out as hard as any "of the boys" with her slashing rhythm guitar and rough but tender vocals. This proto-typical "riot girl" is a classic rocker in the best sense : she leaves it all on the stage, both satisfying an audience, and leaving them wanting more. An excellent show. Thanks, Joan.

Joan Jett is THE BEST rhythm guitarist in RnR

by Lungman on 7/4/09Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

The concert was outstanding. What a showman she is even at age 50 (doesn't look it) Played a nice mixture of old Runaways stuff and current tunes. The band is tight, her bonding with the audience was immediate and the place was packed with her fans. Cherie Currie was in the audience and Joan graciously acknowledged the lead singer of the Runaways.
