Great way to ring in the new year. Only problem it took Uber a while to get to location due to two lane road.
Every band, every song was superb! I will be going again next year and the year after and the year after ....
As the title says, the lineup was incredible. And the venue could not of been more beautiful. The seamless switching between band to band meant there was almost no delay between music. There was great food available and it was all for a great cause, Boys and Girls Club. Best music I've seen all year! Plan to seek out music events in this area because the waterfront downtown is so gorgeous and reasonable to stay.
Thanks to Irma this show was rescheduled from September 9th at the Convention Center to a gorgeous day in November at Laishley Park by the river! The schedule change also added North Mississippi Allstars and Karl Denson's Tiny Universe!! NMA were good, but not their best performance. KDTU were the highlight of the evening! Tight performance and jammed the entire set! JJ Grey & Mofro were entertaining, but Karl killed it!
Top 10 weather day. Then add the music. And WOW is all I can say. Each band just got better it was an unbelievable day. Sorry we had to reschedule due to Irma but man could not of asked for a better day thank you to all the bands that made it possible. Already looking forward to next yr
We had never been to this park before. It was delightful. The setup was excellent with the stages on either side. The music was great and, of course, JJ Grey was our draw and he certainly did not disappoint (but he never has with us, so....). I know the more often the Big Orange is run, the bigger it will get but please don't put it inside. The fresh air just makes this type of festival. More vendors will be nice. The ones that were there this year were interesting and fun and the food was nicely varied. Great job! Hope to see you next year.
Port Charlotte can be proud of this layback concert venue. Easy parking without having to walk a mile as with concerts in St Pete, and nice people staffing it. I was there for the whole thing, and when the very second act, Sean Chambers, turned out to be phenomenal I knew I was in for a great show. Tinsley Ellis got everyone up and dancing. North Mississippi Allstars were the best I've seen them with their new bass holding them together really well. A brilliant performance where I occasionally thought of them like a deep South Jimi Hendrix and his drummer. Denson's jazzy performance was as good as I've heard them. JJ Grey was better than I thought he would be from his YouTube clips. A soulful performance. Not up to the others though, and thought he should have switched places with N Mississippi Allstars.
Excellent show. JJ Grey & Mofro were awesome. All bands were excellent. Venue was beautiful and the event was well run.
Poor signage and entry was not lit up. Sound/acoustic quality was awful. Couldn't hear the vocals clearly.
The 2nd Annual Big Orange Music Festival was a grand slam. Moving the concert to outdoors to Laishley Park on the banks on the Peace river with it's perfectly manicured lawn and clear cool sky was just icing on the cake. Please consider this the new venue moving forward every week-end before Thanksgiving... The food trucks and variety of choices including a killer black bean burger and hand cut fries was a big treat. The full bar along with a great beer selection ( although it would be nice if you could provide an IPA next year ) was better than most festivals. Having two full stages complete with lighting and effects is such a great concept. It's was cool each time the announcer asked us to do the "Big Orange Shuffle" as the bands rotated performing on the two stages and started right on time. Kudos to the organizers. And of course the line up of musical talent was the best I've heard in a long while. My personal fav's were the North Mississippi Allstars and of JJ Grey. My only wish is that JJ is the perennial headliner for the Festival because if he is, me and my buddies will attend every year. Good job to all those who worked so hard to pull this baby off. Please know we appreciate your hard work.
The show was fabulous. The venue beautiful. Mr security at the gate was extremely rude for no apparent reason. Yes, we want to be safe but a couple signs and s dividing rope would help. Manners still important. It’s pitiful to see America falling to pieces.
Great crowd and nice venue. All of the bands were fantastic. I love JJ Grey and Mofro but I wish they would mix it up. I feel like if you’ve seen them once then that’s enough. They need to change their formula as their set was old and we left in the middle of it.
Didn’t know what to expect after Irma wiped out the original September date so went to Punta Gorda from Bradenton not really knowing how to navigate the re-scheduled BOF . Well I could not have asked for a better event . The day was just fantastic, cudos to the event organizers. Comfortable , relaxed, very stress free day on the water with such great bands as Tinsley Ellis , North Mississippi All Stars , Carl Denson’s Tiny Universe and JJ Grey. Wow what a day it was from start to finish !! Have to say, seen JJ a few times but on this day he and his band were exceptional from first song to last . A truely enjoyable day of music on the water, on a beautiful day what more could you ask for. Will be back again next year !!
This festival was top notch. The bands, the venue, the vendors, all excellent. Punta Gorda is a gem and I hope the musicians enjoyed it as much as we enjoyed them. I would be happy to see any of the bands again and I hope to see more festivals like this at Laishley Park in Punta Gorda!
Had an amazing time at the festival. Wish there had been a big screen to see better!
Very well organized. Great music. In a great location.
The sound system was fantastic. The two stages really made for a great experience. The laishley park location made the concert with water on both sides of the venue. Beautiful!!
Amazing show - full of his hits (Brighter Days, Orange Blossoms Lochloosa, Country Ghetto, Sun is Shining Down, Sweetest Thing, On Fire). True showman, works the crowd, gets everyone up and dancing. Gifted musician, he played about half a dozen different instruments during the show. Mofro was great and the opening act was really good and blended perfectly with JJ Grey's style. I brought 3 friends who are discerning listeners and who had never listened to JJ before and they were blown away. Great job JJ - Kick ass great fun on a Wednesday night. This was my first time seeing a show in Aura. I used to go there when it was Asylum. The last show I saw there was Dr John who still sounds great. The new venue takes things to a whole new level - literally. They added a second level. I did not even recognize the place.
This venue is phenomenal on its own, but JJ Grey and Mofro made it their own on Wednesday night!! Great performance in a great setting, the sound is fantastic there, and I don’t think there’s a bad seat in the house!
First off....the first warm up band, Commonheart was Absolutely Amazing!!!!! Now.... JJ was doubly Amazing....all his hits were done spot on, just like his live DVD, Brighter Days... I’m such a big fan of his now... Y’all gotta check him and MOFRO out !!!
