About

About Jet Lounge at House of Blues

Formed around 2009 in New Orleans, hip hop collective Jet Life is an offshoot of rapper Curren$y's label Jet Life Recordings. The Jet Life roster, affectionately titled The JETS — which stands for Just Enjoy This Sh*t — has a pretty impressive lineup that has included Young Roddy, Trademark da Skydiver, Street Wiz, Smoke DZA, Mikey Rocks (of The Cool Kids), Nesby Phips, Corner Boy P, and Fiend (formerly of No Limit). With Curren$y as its backbone, Jet Life has been an important force in the New Orleans rap scene.

In 2011, Curren$y released Jet World Order, a collaboration album that showcased the voices of his Jet Life crew and its talented producers. The album drew heavily from the skills of Monsta Beatz (Dee Low and Jean Lephare), the team of producers who work on most of Curren$y's songs. Jet World Order was a winning album of weed-centric "luxury rap," as the JETS call it. The album also featured Big K.R.I.T., Bun B, Kendrick Lamar, and Schoolboy Q. The following year, Jet World Order 2 was released. Curren$y's own breakthrough album was arguably 2012's The Stoned Immaculate, which reached No. 8 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and topped out at No. 2 on the U.S. Top Rap Albums chart. It featured guest appearances from Pharrell, Wiz Khalifa, 2 Chainz, and more, in addition to JETS squad members Fiend, Young Roddy, Trademark Da Skydiver, and Smoke DZA.

With a focus on collective art, Curren$y has tried to take the Jet Life ethos into the larger community of New Orleans, setting up a weekly event at the House of Blues to showcase his group's talents and to give them a consistent voice. Meant to mirror larger rap showcases in cities like New York, the "Jet Lounge" series runs on Wednesday nights.

    Never Again

by DrRose on 5/12/18House of Blues New Orleans - New Orleans

I would never again attend this type of event, the artist did not show up and there was an excessive amount of smoking in the building.
