About

JESSE COOK IN CONCERT:

Canadian guitarist Jesse Cook is one contemporary flamenco's most beloved acts, combining unparalleled guitar work with elements of world music and jazz on his elegant compositions. Possessing a deep, first-hand knowledge of gypsy musical traditions, Cook has earned himself opening slots for luminaries including B.B. King and Ray Charles, but it's his recent solo shows that have really turned heads. Whether he's showing off his furious finger-picking skills on "Tempest" or slowing things down with "Europa," fans can expect an unforgettable night of music at his 2014 tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Paris, Jesse Cook spent his early years moving between various European locales including the South of France and Barcelona. There, he was introduced to the sound of gypsy guitarists like Manitas de Plata, a discovery that proved formative as he developed his own flamenco-inspired playing style. After receiving extensive musical training in the US and Canada, Cook got his big break at the 1995 Catalina Jazz Festival, where his performance on a smaller stage was so well received that the festival's organizers moved him to the main stage. A few months later, his 1995 debut album Tempest landed at No. 14 in the US, kicking off extensive touring and setting the stage for 1996's gold-selling Gravity. With 11 Juno nominations to his name, Cook remains at the vanguard of nuevo flamenco, hitting the road once again in 2014 for a highly anticipated tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Cook is such a virtuoso guitarist that I feel he's up there with Clapton and Mark Knopfler -- but very different, of course -- and his combination of Flamenco and Spanish meshed into Middle Eastern/Mediterranean/Baltic is stunning. The musicians in his band are geniuses in their own right and together they form a very tight and talented unit."

"No glitz, no glamour, just 5 guys who can play the heck out of their instruments and have a lot of fun doing it. Jesse's storytelling between songs was funny in a genuine way."

"Concert was very entertaining. Not only was Jesse Cook amazing, his band members were very impressive and talented, playing various instruments."

    Jesse Cook was phoenominal

    by kat4man4du on 10/4/09Aladdin Theater - Portland

I actually love seeing music and other acts in the Aladdin. It is a small enough venue that it is very personal. The acoustics in there are fantastic and it is close to my friends.

I've been to many concerts and this was by far the best of the best! Jesse Cook is, not only a phenomenal musician, he is an entertainer and knows how to please his audience. His music spans all ages and has universal appeal. I hope he comes back to Portland soon.

Outstanding...he makes you want to dance!

    by Jacquetta5 on 10/4/09Aladdin Theater - Portland

This was my first opportunity to see Jesse Cook in concert. I was not disappointed only disappointed it couldn't have gone on longer. He is an outstanding performer, interacts so well with audience; humor, sensitivity, and weaves a good story. His music is reflective of his time in Spain, but you hear the tones of Cuban, South America and even melodic strings that bring in some of the Middle East. I am a true follower of his beat and when I play his music I want to dance. He also plays some very smoothing tones, (e.g. Tuesday's Child) and blends it in well with the rest of selections. The fellas that play with him are as talented as he and everyone compliments each other. They are a fabulous group and I would see him again and again. I might be like the lady in the audience who saw in Seattle the night before and then traveled to see him again in Portland.

    Jesse Cook was fabulous!!

    by 2Wrights on 10/4/09Triple Door - Seattle

First time seeing Jesse Cook and first time at Triple Door. Dinner was great and Jesse Cook was fabulous. Would definitely recommend seeing him anywhere he plays but the venue at Triple Door was great cause you could actually see him and watch him play his guitar. His back-up band were wonderful, too. Especially enjoyed the violinist. Will definitely see him again when he comes back to Seattle.

Jesse Cook for the first time

by wnpigzfly on 10/4/09Aladdin Theater - Portland

I went to this show because my son wanted tickets, I was completely unfamiliar with the music, but have been transformed to a fan. Everyone on the stage was amazingly talented and the resulting music phenomenal. It was difficult to dance without tearing my eyes away from the fingers flying on the guitar strings, but somehow I managed it. If you enjoy guitar, well played, flamenco style , and infused with freshness you must attend a Jesse cook performance.

    Jesse Cook

by Anonymous on 10/4/09Aladdin Theater - Portland

Not only is Mr. Cook a very talented musician, but very personable too. His interaction with the audience made an already perfect concert even better. This is my first time to see him in concert, but do have almost all of his CDs, which I listen to quite often. I hope he makes Portland one of his long-term concert stops.

    Wow

    by dmg55 on 10/4/09Aladdin Theater - Portland

It is a pleasure in life to encounter people who are so excellent at their work, craft and art. Last night we watched five consumate entertainers at work, who clearly love their work and enjoy performing. This was our first time to see Jesse Cook live, but have enjoyed his music for years, so it was another big plus to see the energy these players create with their music. It was also great to get a sense of the person(s) that create this fine music. dmg

by JazzyChazzy on 10/4/09Aladdin Theater - Portland

It is beyond me why Jesse and his music isn't more well known. His playing and his band are so stunning, happy, dramatic, intelligent, thoughtful, and fun that one can hardly believe it. He and his entire band played with such joy and confidence. I could've listened all night.

    Jesse's the best!

by NorthSeattleDem on 10/3/09Triple Door - Seattle

I saw this concert on Pandora first, and rushed to find a ticket. We first saw Jesse Cook at the Chateau St. Michelle concert series a few years ago, and we have several albums. The venue was perfect, the concert was great, and the energy was fantastic. So glad to have him back on tour!

Jesse Cook just gets better and better!!!!!!!!!!

by harpersp on 10/3/09Triple Door - Seattle

Jesse was once again fantastic live and in person. He has kept the best talent together to back up his incredible music and just has the most amazing energy and stage presence. I saw him a year ago at the Triple Door and thought that was good but last night he proved to be even better. I hope that he will continue to come to this venue as I will never miss the opportunity to attend.

Jesse Cook & company were fantastic - Don't Miss!

by MikeSeattle on 10/3/09Triple Door - Seattle

Jesse is one of the best guitarist on the the planet. He did an amazing solo that once again proved his virtuosity. And a fabulous entertainer. He had everybody in the theater on their feet and rumba dancing by the end. Very intimate with the audience. Talks to the audience and answers questions. Great mix of new and greatest hits. The new stuff he played will become the next greatest hits. Three encores; do not miss Jesse "unplugged". Worth every penny.

The Triple Door + Jesse Cook = one amazing night!

by FremontJD on 10/3/09Triple Door - Seattle

I've seen Jesse Cook four times now around Seattle and British Columbia but by far my favorite concert venue around the NW is the Triple Door in Seattle. Small, intimate, and highly classy, the Triple Door makes an event of any artist privileged enough to play there. The only thing that could top the venue itself is seeing one of my favorite artists Jesse Cook play in it. His new songs which he debuted there sounded amazing and were a hit with everyone, despite not having heard them before. And his standards were great as usual, especially with Chris Church back in the five-man line-up once again (he was missing for last year's show). But the icing on the cake was the a cappella version of "Fall at Your Feet" with Chris on the lead vocals. It totally silenced everyone in the crowd and left us wanting for more. Thanks for coming again Jesse!

Jesse Cook hits a musical homerun!

by Anonymous on 10/2/09Triple Door - Seattle

Jesse and band sound more like a latin jazz orchestra than just a 5 piece group. They are so tight, and get the audience involved with clapping, dancing. Simply amazing!

Jesse Cook - off the charts fantastic!

by vernie on 10/2/09Triple Door - Seattle

This group is incredibly talented with a wonderfully exotic sound. Sexy music at it's best! We were fortunate to sit next to the stage to really appreciate the skill Jesse and the other members of the group have with the variety of instruments they play. Clearly professional and in love with what they do, just a phenomenal performance. Relaxed, confident, engaging and fun. Don't miss him!
