I have gone to Jerry Jeff concerts since 1976. This was the most intimate and personal concert I have ever attended. While his health issues presented themselves, the evening could not have been better. Always the consummate entertainer & story teller he delivered in true Scamp Walker style!
He suited up and showed up. Sick as a dog and he still put on a show. I figure Susan going to love the fact that he can't disagree with her because his voice is gone from laryngitis. Hang in there brother and I will see you next time!
As usual, Jerry Jeff put on a great show. His son, Django, opened up for him and that was a treat. We bought Django's CD and look forward to Jerry Jeff's new recording. My only disappointment was with the folks at the table next to us. The Birchmere used to be a "listening room" (we have been going to shows there for 20+ years). These folks talked loudly the entire show, had their cell phones out recording, etc. No one from the Birchmere did a thing. It really was not the experience I am used to at the Birchmere - I am sorry to say that I may think twice before spending that kind of money to listen to people yack all night.
Saw Jerry Jeff Walker at the Birchmere on Saturday night. Fabulous show. His son Django performed as well and that was a treat. Played the old favorites and some new material from upcoming new release.
Having been a fan since college, my brother and I decided to make the trip (about 7 hours). We were not disappointed. Jerry`s voice was a little "off", If you haven`t seen him, now is the time!
Jerry Jeff was good. Get there early so you don't get a seat at the back of the venue.
I fully admit that I may be a bit prejudiced in my review. I have been a Jerry Jeff Walker fan since I was in HS (40 years ago). Watching him perform last Friday at The Birchmere was a thrill for me on a very personal level. Jerry Jeff was a trailblazer in the genre of modern country music. His songs are so well constructed lyrically and are about real life and experiences that we all can relate to. He is a modern troubadour who at 75 years old is only better with age. Jerry Jeff and his band played a full set of classics and some new stuff. He may not have sounded as energetic as he once did, but the band was as technically proficient as any. The lead guitarist was amazing! Jerry Jeff sounded great. He played the entire set seated and did not do an encore. My guess is his age is catching up with him a bit. That said, he is still great and worth the money to go see him - especially in an intimate venue like The Birchmere.
I've seen Jerry Jeff probably 30+ times and he didn't disappoint for this show. Although age is creeping up on all of us JJW still showed energy and style while performing his music. I miss the old band but the guys playing with JJW did a good job. Having his son Django as the warm up was a very pleasant surprise and he is a great musician in his own right! It certainly showed that he is taking a lesson from his Dad and becoming a awesome story teller. Great to see JJW still playing live!!
Jerry Jeff Walker was amazing. I have been a fan for 40 years but this was my 1st time seeing him. When he walked in stage he owned the place and his music is timeless.
I have been waiting about 30 years to see Jerry Jeff Walker.It was worth it. He is as good as ever and updates his songs to be current.
Jerry Jeff may be getting up in years but, it hasn't made any difference in the GREAT shows he has always given. The man puts his heart and soul into his music! Now, let me tell you how BAD the seating is in the Golden Nugget!!!!! I'm a seasoned lady myself and I have put on a little weight since High School but, a 90lb twig could not ever be comfortable in those little chairs!!! Talk about Sardines!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have to say that I am very disappointed in Tilman Fertitta. Usually everything he builds is wonderful and the casino/hotel is that and more. "The Grand Event Center" is horrible with it's 2000 seats that are nothing but folding chairs, hooked together with no where to put your drink. Heaven forbid if you have two husky dudes on both sides of you. Just Saying.....
Saw him in 1971 in thibideaux La. at a small bar or dance hall, with Jimmy Buffet,, Jerry Jeff was out of it, as were we, Jimmy buffet great. This time remarkable different.. coherent and meaningful, as were we. He does what he wants always has so you got to respect that. I got no complaints.
We really enjoyed the show! So glad we were able to attend.

the venue was really very nice, like most of us at the show, JJW is getting older, but he still put on a good show! Thoroughly enjoyed it and would go again if he is in the are!

Great show - only complaint is wish it were longer. 2 hours would have been great. A few great old songs I would have liked to hear.
Jerry Jeff Walker puts on an amazing show. He hasn't changed a bit over the years. I have been a fan of his for years. He is very entertaining. He gets the audience involved and makes the show a lot more fun. Only thing I don't like about the casino shows, there isn't any room to dance. Gotta get up and dance to Jerry Jeff. Thanks for an incredible night!
Jerry jeff opened for Jimmy Buffett in Friso Texas. It was an awesome show.
